Getting the right Pacifier is important! The best pacifier for newborn babies is one that is going to enhance baby development and help with breastfeeding baby too. In this video, you learn when to introduce a pacifier, the best pacifier for baby, and the pros and cons of using a pacifier. Taking care of a newborn baby is a lot of work and pacifiers are one of my must have baby products to help with baby sleep, being able to soothe a baby, and calming a newborn baby crying. For when to start using a pacifier, you should make sure feeding has been established- this is one of my breastfeeding tips! Breastfeeding and pacifiers can work together but early pacifier use can create unnecessary problems if you’re breastfeeding. Knowing when to use a pacifier and how to give a baby a pacifier is going to make taking care of a newborn a little easier! Using a pacifier can become a great tool that makes your life and your baby’s life better and easier!

So glad i watched this. I heard about nipple confusion from my bestie, who is also a mom. i didn't think that a pacifier would do the same, but it makes sense. i'm also proud of myself b/c i got the pacifiers that looked like the hospital ones. when you said advent pacifiers, i checked what i got and applauded myself lol. so i'll take whatever pacifiers the hospital gives me and hold onto them until 4-6 weeks. Thank you mama!!

I used Mam and Chicco pacifiers with my babies when they went through the “witching hour” (1-2 months of age). And I only used them in emergencies when nothing else seemed to calm them down. After that, they both rejected pacifiers at 3-4 months of age and never used them again.

Both of my EBF infants did not take a pacifier until they were around 2.5-3 months. They preferred breast and I didn't push it too hard. They both also preferred the NUK type pacifiers when they did take them. I also am a firm believer of giving the pacifier ONLY for assistance during sleep.

My Mom was very anti pacifier. I recently found a photo of myself at maybe three years, holding a baby bottle filled with something red! :0) I think bottles must have been my passie. And I had almost three years of braces anyway! It's so interesting to hear logical reasons why things I had a strong opinion with no real facts about just might be wrong! Thank you.

Interesting recommendation. I am a dental student who is due in 6 weeks and I had a conversation with my pediatric dentistry professor about pacifiers. She actually recommended MAM or NUK pacifiers. She also said to never use a pacifier that has a little stuff toy/giraffe attached to it because it promotes open bite.

This is because the goals are conflicting. The best pacifier for proper tongue movement is the Avent soothie style. My PT used it to train my baby how to suck properly. The Mam and Nuk are designed to be the least intrusive and have the least effect of teeth but they actually force the baby to use the wrong sucking motion. So there isn’t one right paci, it depends on what your goal is. If baby needs better sucking technique, Avent! If baby has good sucking technique then Man or Nuk is fine

She only uses for a little bit to go for naps or nighttime. The wubband says it is for 0-6 months but she is now 9 months old still using it. Here in France in hospital they told us not to use a pacifier at all, at second day I had to give one to my baby, he really wanted to suck all the time, my breast hurt too much. Now it helps him to calm but he don’t need it all the time. We use Aveda Soothe it is really great.

My first son used the nuk pacifier, he was an exclusively breast fed boy who was only comforted on the boob.. he was starting to use the breast as a pacifier so I felt that it was necessary… but it was very difficult to take it away when it was necessary. Eventually he lost them all and I just didn’t buy anymore. My 2nd never liked the pacifier and spit it out so I didn’t need to worry about it. My 3rd was only given the pacifier from the hospital, but he didn’t take one after he was a month old. He was great at breast feeding, and I started to mainly pump and bottle feed because I went back to work pretty quickly. Now with my recent 4th, she is a very fussy baby. She doesn’t give very specific cues as to what she needs when she cries, because she cries a lot. She is overly sensitive to sounds and movements so with these sensory issues I have given into the pacifier. Currently using the MUM type, they are a little smaller than the avent ones that the hospital gave us. She will suck on it for a little while before spitting it out and crying, then she tries to look for it with her hands, but it’s her hands that usually knock it out of her mouth anyway..

My daughter used the nuk classic pacifier and was breastfeeding; she didnt have any latch issues and emptied me very well. 😊 she did not like the soothie, but with my son he took to the soothie and the lansinoh bottles since the nipples are round and my LC said they're good choice; he has a lazy latch at times, its extremely hard to keep them in his mouth, and ive had pain and latching issue's with him but never my daughter. So for my kids pacifiers are completely the opposite for me experience wise, he keeps crying for his pacifier cause he drops it so often and haven't seen much of sucking growth; he was checked for lip or tongue tie and had neither

very great information, but I do have to add, I was an infant/toddler teacher for 3 years. I have seen very bad cases with open bite with the round hospital nuk because its round opening is like a pencil. it creates that opening on the gum/teeth area in the front mainly. when infants start getting their front teeth the nuk prevents the teeth from closing and the teeth basically form around the shape of the nuk, which is round. im not saying its bad to use earlier on but I would suggest to stop using that specific type of pacifier by 6 months. I like the mam and nuk because they are flat for better oral development.

I’d have to double check with my mom but I know I used a smoother for far longer than 6 months and my teeth are perfectly straight. Teeth shape is genetic

I offered them to both my kids and they just didn’t care to suck on it for too long. If it fell out they weren’t bothered. That’s how I knew. Before that I too thought that every baby has to have a pacifier

Very interesting, I never heard of suck training before! I used the flat pacifiers (Nuk and Tommy Tipee) with both of my babes from birth and they never seemed to have any nipple confusion and breastfed for 1.5 years each. The Soothies did not stay in their mouth at all and I could only use them if I held it in place the entire time! I guess I never thought about the issues that could occur I just used them as needed and both babes did great and always preferred the boob if they had the choice 😅

I know sex helped me with my first two. Had them in 24hrs. I took castor oil with my third and she arrived in 12hrs. The 4th nothing worked (the sex, walking, midwives brew, pineapple, spicy foods, castor oil, tincture, miles circuit, side lying release, bouncing, etc..) and I effaced 50-60%, dialated 3-4cm, but needed an emergency c-section in the end. I had a discussions with my midwives before I did anything. Nothing will work until baby is ready; they are smart and know what they are doing. If they are ready you can encourage them with previously mentioned methods (depending on your health, situation, doctor/midwife advice) and they will come.🙂

I have been thinking of not getting a pacifier for my baby since I were pregnant.. but now she is 3 weeks and has developed the habit of comfort nursing.. She stays mostly in my lap wanting to be attached to my breast all the time.. When she sleeps she wakes up as soon as I put her down.. Its getting really frustrating for me and I'm thinking of getting a pacifier now.. Any advice would be appreciated..

When I had a C-section birth my milk had stopped coming in first two weeks, we ended up having to take our baby into the hospital for dehydration. she cried and as new parents we didnt know what to do! it prevents over eating as well. I'm glad I made the decision to give her a pacifier to help soothe her so that she didn't spend all night crying, till we got to the hospital. I'm grateful also because it reminds her to breathe it helps me know that she's OK and prevents premature death or prevents SIDS. always buy the age appropriate pacifiers, and dont keep them on long. take it away after 1 year the latest. she also had a hard time with the avent, brand. and loved MaM. also helped with eczema on her face, preventing saliva from sticking to her cheeks:)

Love her and her work! BUT reconsider getting your baby a pacifier. Paediatric dentists do not recommend them because they are known to change the shape of the upper pallet and cause teeth spacing issues later on. It can also effect speech and breathing, specifically causing mouth breathing which has a list of lasting health consequences. Just something to think about! You don’t need a pacifier to have a soothed baby ♥️

Im one of 4 children and we all too a soother and none of us have issues. Sounds like the child would have had these issues regardless it’s just easier for parents to plan a soother and not their genes 😉 Science sweetie.
