I appreciate the honest and straightforward methodology to do a repair. I might suggest using "match marks" to assure proper re-alignment. Also, it is a good practice to use a wooden block to support the shaft to remove the roll pin.

@@JeffsLittleEngineService I'm missing one of the the long screws so its loose and its leaking oil ?? So my tractor won't start , I'm not sure if its a weak battery or the loose starter , would a start with only 1 screw be a issue ? the start engages but it too slow and too weak to start the engine it rotates than stops than rotates slowly than stops ????

To make installing the bolts easier , put a rod, or whatever fits, through the case into the holes in the commutator end. Then, remove one rod and replace it with the screw. Then do the other one.😊

Use a piece of cardboard to hold the brushes in place while you install the armature into the end cap 😀

I made 2 clips, U shaped, about 1 and 1/4" long with 1/2" legs and i just stick them thru the bottom of the starter to hold brushes back, then assemble starter and pull them out. I made them out of a wire coat hanger.

Can you convert a c clip pin to a the old style roll pin?

@@jimdwyer4706 I don't think so; at least not without drilling a hole in the starter shaft to accomodate the pin.

i had a slow to start mower i just checked the starter motor and the internal magnets had broke loose on two of the four so i cleaned them up with metho and used some loctite 620 high strength sleeve retaining compound to glue them back to the body atleast being magnetic they hold them selves in place while they dry ill let u know how it worked out tomorrow when it dries out hopefully none gets into the bottom bush haha

Got mine pulled apart just like you did in the video. Looked into the cylinder at the magnets. One side of the magnets are all cracked up and a chunk of magnet is missing. Got some light in there so I could see, looks like the armature has rubbed up on the magnets, I can see gouge's. It is kind of funny most of the time this mower would start up. After it ran awhile then I shut it off. It acted liked like the battery was about dead, and it was New. It had a hard time turning over. I am guessing this is the reason. I started screwing around with it because the hot wire that hooks to the starter it was just dangling loose. Looks as if someone did not use two wrenches to take the starter off and pulled the hot wire out of that plastic peace that holds the brushes. Well what do you expect it is a used mower.

I have a 925-06300 Electric Starter and there's no roll pin in the top assembly. I can't afford to replace the whole starter (it's like $174.00), so I need some help seeing I can salvage it. Any tips on removing that sucker?

Cleaning and lubing the far end of the bolts before manhandling the skinny bolts may lessen the chances of breaking them? I'm just guessing....try it out

What he said. Use a couple of popsicle sticks hold the brushes drop the armature pull out the sticks. You already know that as soon as you put that back together the magnets will pull it loose. Good job anyway. Always nice to have an extra starter on the shelf.

Great tip! I tried quite a few diferent ways before I was finally able to get it together
