I have what I "think" is a 60mm f/2.8 2:1 Laowa. I say that I "think" because the lens doesn't have any identifying brand name on it. I purchased this lens for a hundred bucks used on eBay and the seller stated that he "thinks" it is a pre-production Laowa 2:1 lens. It has very decent IQ and since I do much of my close-up work with my 28-75mm f/2.8 Tamron - this lens is all that I need for the occasional actual macro work that I do.

@@richardpcrowe yours looks more like the Laowa version but the front is a little different. I think they are all three the same internally just different exterior touches.

I'm not sure if I should buy this lens of the mk2 7artisans... The 2x magnification sounds wonderful, but the scratchyness does worry me a little bit. Though I've heard the 7artisans has a fairly sloppy aparture ring. Choices, choices... Arthur, will you be reviewing the mk2? I'd love to see a comparison between the two.

Hey Arthur! Big fan of your work! I got the 7artisans 60mm f2.8 a while ago after watching your review on it and absolutely love it. I'm wondering if you'll be reviewing the v2 of it that was just released and doing a comparison with the v1 (and maybe even this Brightin Star and Sony macro you mentioned). I love your in-depth reviews and they've been extremely insightful and helpful for me. Keep up the good work!

Love the review and thanks for sharing. Where on earth do you find all these weird and whacky lenses from!!!!! I love the low cost option especially where those just starting like myself are concerned that do not have the money to spend out on huge brand name stuff! I have just taken the plunge from your older A6400 videos and comparisons finally taken the plunge and bought myself an A6400 to replace my old Nex-7 and omg.. the photo quality makes my nex-7 look like a grainy polaroid in comparision.. So thanks to you Arthur I am now an very very happy snapper :) Keep the videos coming and thank you once again

Athur - it's not a copy od 7Artisans' lens, it's a copy of Laowa 60/2.8 2:1 lens (not the 65, the older, dSLR version of 60mm)...

Sorry, but your method for macro photography is not ideal (which is quite typical for gear review channels). Look at Micael Widell's tutorials on how to get MUCH better results with F11, a small flash and a diffusor.

A lot of macro users prefer natural Light over flashlight, it's not as sharp but looks better

Sony ZV-E10 announced 7/27/21! Wondering how it compares to a6400. It’s cheaper...but is it inferior? It has electronic image stabilization. Any way you could take a look at the specs? Just ordered a6400 and wondering if I should wait for the ZV-E10 Lol sorry for posting this on this video! I have watched so many other videos but wasn’t sure how to message you

To avoid blurry macro photos, try use an external flash and keep aperture f16 aprox. This includes Marco lenses. lol.

This is probably the reason why 7artisan just launched a ver 2 of their 60mm 2.8 macro, the first version seemed really bad compared to the brightin star.

I've found you can adapt almost all vintage lenses to be used as a macro. I've tried the tair 135, helios 85mm, helios 58mm, cosinon 50mm, the pentacon 50... You name it 😂 all it takes is to find a decent teleconverter, raynox glass, and I also use my additional magnification lens dedicated to my vintage soligor macro lens. Most of the times it gets me magnification 5:1 or even more. Its fun to discover how different lenses can act like a macro also it's way cheaper 😅

Kinda pointless shooting macro at f2.8 most of the time. Not enough DOF. Unless you need it, you probably don’t.

Not a whole lot of point shooting at f8 either as you don’t get much more depth of field. And anything beyond that creates defraction, so stacking is pretty much your only option if you want to get really close.

I do , sometimes à realy small DOF is usefull and 2.8 allow you to get enough Light without a flash for a more natural look
