Brightline Cocoa Station - Location Announcement!

I am excited to finally be able to announce that Brightline has selected Cocoa for its next station. Located at the Cocoa Curve near the State Road 528/US1 interchange, this station will be located at the center of Brevard County.
For the time being, the only official information that Brightline has released is the general location. Specific details on the property layout, station building, platforms, parking, schedules, etc have not been announced yet and anything shown in this video is assumptions based on details from other stations and previous location studies.

Great news, perfect place for a station for those going on those Disney cruises they can take a Lyft or Uber ride over to the cruises. Bright lines is always one step ahead of everyone.

This!! This will bring them money on an epic scale. The ability to grab a train instead of a bus for the ride from Orlando to Cocoa and then a quick ride to the Port is what will make things better! The only improvement would be a station close to Disney property as well.

The Cocoa station was the worst kept secret. It was the closest point to the cruise lines. And with an Orlando airport to Cocoa station connection, you might see some of the highest ridership in that corridor. Very smart move

I think it is safe to say that we are on the verge of a modern passenger rail reemergence and Brightline is the leader of that! Really hoping this encourages high speed rail for the rest of the country!

I would have to think that they must have plans for that down the road. But they would need more trains to fill such a schedule. With so many other potential stops... Ft. Pierce, Melbourne, Sebastian... a local would make sense and make a lot of $$ for them. At present, there was only talk of a local down in Broward and Dade counties

I am a massive space and train fan. When this station gets built I could fly into Orlando, take a train to cocoa and then a quick taxi to the Kennedy space center to watch a launch. My dream day is now possible! All Brightline needs now is an extension up to daytona so I can watch the racing there and I would have to take a holiday in florida

Also looking into the future, this is also the best location for an interchange with the tracks that run north to Jacksonville, should there one-day be an extension of Brightline to the north of cocoa, or for any other operator. (edit): Although that may just be a wishful fever dream for that to happen anytime in the near future.

That WalMart is not long for this world. When Brightline opens their station there, that land will become way too valuable to be used for just a giant WalMart and it’s parking lot. I predict that within 10 years of the station opening, the area will be home to a whole little neighborhood.

Not surprised because they own the land there. Excellent place for a station, convenient to so much. Hope they provide local transport to Cape Kennedy Space Center, cruise port and beaches. I wonder if they'll put a hotel or something in there too along with parking. Here comes the special weekend cruise train offering brunch!

This is what I have been waiting for. I love seeing spacex launch from KSC. The drive from Fort Lauderdale is too long to go round trip. I am looking forward to having breakfast on the train and napping on the ride back. My grandchildren will love it 😀

I can't wait for this station to open. When this station is open, it will be so much easier to get to Kennedy Space Center. Right now, to get from Orlando to Cape Canaveral, you have to ride a Greyhound bus for at thee hours in bumper to bumper Florida traffic. When the station opens, it will be so much faster to catch the train at the Orlando Airport and race over to Cocoa at 200 kilometers an hour. From there, it should be just a short walk to the local bus stop to take a shot ride over to Cape Canaveral. Having the station at Cocoa will probably cut the amount of time it takes to get from the airport to the spaceport (or the cruise port), at least in half. Hopefully, the station will be open in just a few years. I'll definitely be watching this project closely. Brightline should call its service between Orlando airport and the Cocoa Beach station the rocket train. 🚄 to 🚀 I can't wait!

From an European's perspective the site screams "transfer hub", including the FEC line. Remove/shorten the center track leading to the yard and put a center platform there, add two side platforms. Also enough space for a bus terminal to connect to the surrounding area.

I highly doubt the middle track will be changed as the train that uses that track uses almost the full length when unloading and is one of the FEC’s biggest customers

@@RoamingRailfan yeah, i suspected something like that... so only side platforms? Bummer. Or could the loading track be changed to loop back to the north from the yard? On google maps there's a train in the process of being loaded and it only takes up about half of the loop, so wrapping it around in a circle should in principle be possible. (I guess, operationally they also use this to turn the train around in the process, which would then require additional shunting.)

I know it's to early and there is no station plan yet... But I just want to write down that I bet it's gonna be an Island platform. Brightline then could build it against the current single track mainline, and then when the time comes for the second track to be built they could just build the second mainline around the platform towards their own property, and not interfere with Coco junction or the siding.

Will the speed of the train become slower due to more stations being built?

This station location minimizes the extra trip time added for a station stop as the trains already have to slow down significantly to make the curve

@@RoamingRailfan This is correct. Also, don't forget about the single track section at the Orlando to Cocoa and the St. Lucie drawbridge. The current schedules have to have padding in order for any delays at these sections. When they are upgraded and double tracked in the future, there will be no need for that much padding. This in turn makes the schedule roughly the same in the future, even with these new stops.

Highly doubtful, there have been numerous attempts over the years to get a rail line there over various alignments and all have been shut down for environmental reasons.

Does this mean that Brightline is going to go slower on the 125 area? Since they have to start breaking early.

Shouldn’t affect the 125 section at all based on the location as the trains are already significantly slowed on either side of the site for the curves and FEC connection
