I wonder why Brightline route wasn't electrified. Although more costly, it's is better to electrify it from the beginning rather than years later.

Why do they need a diesel locomotive to pull the BrightLine train? Why can't the BrightLine engine do the job?

There is more than one reason, some of which I am not completely certain. But one I can propose is that the whole train is a commodity being shipped. Consider the train as if it is a box car being shipped by a customer. Shippers don’t normally power their own box cars to the destination, they require the railroad to move them. That is what is happening here. The thing I’m not certain about is that I don’t think this power is certified for use under these circumstances on the freight railroad even though they are perfectly capable of moving a train.

You need equipment and crews that are certified to run on the lines that the freight is moving over. Brightline is also going to want to get the train to their own shop and check it over and install any of their own equipment before the set is powered on and running.
