Honestly, I try to stay in the state of grace, by going to confession weekly, prior to receiving the Eucharist, however even so I still wonder if I’ve sinned before I make it to the communion rail... I don’t claim to be holier than anyone, never ever, it’s not about them it’s about my soul and where the Holy Eucharist has been before it reaches my tongue. God Bless you Striker 333.

@Janette Davis Hello. Actually , I don't disagree with the 5 points you have made in your statement, other than I don't know anything about what Russian Orthodox is. I feel similar regarding the NO mass. i think it should be done away with. I always attend the latin mass if it is available to me. I too, have great issue with the NO Mass, and avoid it. Using the altar rails for the NO mass , and asking those who are able to kneel would remind them that they are receiving the Body of Christ, and that they should be reverent at that moment and acknowledge His Presence. Standing up and having it placed in your hand like a poker chip is not reverent, and diminishes the power of the consecration of the Host. It should not be handled by anyone other than a priest . That is not forcing anyone to believe, just a reminder of what is happening in transubstantiation, a reminder of the Real Presence. If you choose not to believe that, no one is forcing you otherwise.

St Cyril is who the hand tradition is following. But after St Thomas Aquinas argued unconsecrated hands should not touch the Host, the Church universally adopted this as standard. The only thing 'original' about Luther was that he admitted his inspirations came from the devil.

@@soniamartin2007 Luther did not start the practice of receiving by hand. Maybe it was some other Reformer. Lutherans actually started copying Catholics 40 or 50 years ago with hand reception. I am a protestant convert since 2009. I grew up reading the scriptures. Read Hebrews 12:18 to better understand who you are coming to when you receive communion. Since long ago I desired to receive communion on my knees but my fear of disrupting kept me back. I prayed to Our Lady to intercede and grant me the grace to defy my herd instinct. Now I receive communion on my knees. Hebrews 12:18 18You have not come to a physical mountain to a place of flaming fire, darkness, gloom, and whirlwind, as the Israelites did at Mount Sinai. 19For they heard an awesome trumpet blast and a voice so terrible that they begged God to stop speaking. 20They staggered back under God’s command: “If even an animal touches the mountain, it must be stoned to death.” 21Moses himself was so frightened at the sight that he said, “I am terrified and trembling.” 22No, you have come to Mount Zion, to the city of the living God, the heavenly Jerusalem, and to countless thousands of angels in a joyful gathering. 23You have come to the assembly of God’s firstborn children, whose names are written in heaven. You have come to God himself, who is the judge over all things. You have come to the spirits of the righteous ones in heaven who have now been made perfect. 24You have come to Jesus, the one who mediates the new covenant between God and people, and to the sprinkled blood, which speaks of forgiveness instead of crying out for vengeance like the blood of Abel. 25Be careful that you do not refuse to listen to the One who is speaking. For if the people of Israel did not escape when they refused to listen to Moses, the earthly messenger, we will certainly not escape if we reject the One who speaks to us from heaven! 26When God spoke from Mount Sinai his voice shook the earth, but now he makes another promise: “Once again I will shake not only the earth but the heavens also.”k 27This means that all of creation will be shaken and removed, so that only unshakable things will remain. 28Since we are receiving a Kingdom that is unshakable, let us be thankful and please God by worshiping him with holy fear and awe. 29For our God is a devouring fire.

Lonnie Jones Some of us can’t kneel anymore because I have two artificial knees that you can’t kneel down and get up. I need my hips replaced and an ankle replaced. My problem with the Church is all of the gay priests and pedophiles and a Pope that embraces Socialism. I was not happy when they removed the tabernacles and communion rails. And they got rid of the bells and Latin and brought in drum sets but my kneeling down is over. My first 3 years of grade school we knelt on concrete floors everyday for mass maybe that’s why knees became destroyed.

Fr. Goring, I agree with you 100%. There is an external lack of reverence for Jesus in the Eucharist in many cases. Kneeling at the altar rails and receiving on the tongue will definitely help the parishioners to remember Whom we are receiving, our Lord Jesus Christ. I agree that it is too casual now in the manner of standing and receiving on the hand and also more risk of abuse of the Communion Host. Someone once found a host in the middle of a choir book in our Church years ago and another time on a table. We must do something to bring back reverence to our Lord Jesus Christ...

Unfortunately that somewhat scarred me and I have not had the courage to kneel at my new parish. However, I do bow, I receive in the tongue, and I try to receive directly from the priest and not the Eucharistic ministers as often as possible. It saddens me when our priests do not revere the Eucharist as they should. My response has been to add my own prayer in between the rosary decades following the Fatima prayer. Here's what I pray in between my decades: oh my Jesus forgive us our sins. Save us from the fires of Hell. Lead all souls to Heaven especially those in most need of thy mercy. Have pity on the souls in Purgatory, especially the most abandoned and may the Holy Catholic Church once again learn to revere the Eucharist".

The problem is things have become too casual in society in general, with a lot of people having little respect for anything or anyone but themselves, and that attitude has come into the Church as well. Also, my church asks parishioners not to take communion by mouth during flu season. If only we could all go to an Eastern Catholic liturgy, it sounds beautiful and holy. “Worthy is the Lamb that was slain to receive honour, glory and praise.” (Rev. 5:12) Your message today was inspiring. Another thing to note is that the graces we open up to and receive are different based on our reverence towards the blessed sacrament. We are limiting the graces that our Divine Lord wants to give us through lack of reverence. Permitted does not equal best for your soul. If we can kneel before sacred art and statues then we can kneel before the living God who said that “As I live, saith the Lord, every knee shall bow to me, and every tongue shall confess to God” Romans 14:11. When we do this (regardless of if an alter rail is present and most churches do not have them) when receiving our Lord it is scriptural and a beautiful testimony to the real living presence of God in the most Blessed Sacrament!!! I’m quite sure it makes our Mom happy too 😀. Thank you Father!

The homily was delivered in the aisle with the priest walking up and down, mike in hand. So protestant! They even changed the words of the gospel to read "luncheon" instead of "wedding feast." Awful. They prayed only one Kyrie instead of 3. Why doesn't the Pope connect the dots? As Father Mark says....modernizing the liturgy is not working. Congregations are shrinking, not growing!! I dressed him up like a dog’s dinner in a deep blue suit, with a white, “old school “ armband with a bow, When we got to the Church, the kids had to don these cream-colored robe with a flame? Design (can’t remember exactly;but it was something right off one of those infamous felt banners..) The Mass was very “Kumbaya-ish”, since the woman who instructed the children was an ex-nun from the ‘70s. I love this talk. I agree that the Eucharist is the living Christ, and that we need to receive it at Mass with great reverence. Along with several women and a couple of men in our parish, however, all of us have to stand rather than kneel during relevant parts of the mass as we are all becoming elderly and cannot physically kneel anymore. Bring back the communion rail, for sure and also help we elderly with bad knees to receive the Eucharist.

Oh how l agree with you Father, my mind always goes back to when we all knelt to receive the Holy Bread, you felt such reverence for what you'd just received,,And yes women's heads covered too. Our Lady asked us to cover our heads as a sign of reverence, but no, nobody did,,! Only in the Latin Mass, all is observed as it should be.

You are SO Right, we have UNFORTUNATELY LOST THE SENSE OF THE SACRED !! Churches are now Community Centers where we Socialize before Mass. I miss the Respect, Silence and knowledge that we are on SACRED grounds. Bringing back the Communion Rails is an important step. God bless you! Viva Cristo Rey 🙏💒🌈

Baby catholic (1 yr) here, always kneel, and one of only two people in my church who so. Was very daunting at first, and humbling, like i am reducing myself to be like a helpless child. Pride-bruising. Which is why i know it is the right position for me to take.

There is a very big difference today, of recieving our Lord, bring back the way it was, kneeling and not touching the Holy Eucharist, its a MATTER OF RESPECT,because if we dont have it for our Lord, we will certainly not have it for one another, which is seen in our lives today.

AMEN!!! YES!!! I have been praying for this for YEARS!!! And the holding of the Communion plate under our chins will safeguard our precious Lord from falling to the ground. Jesus fell 3 times on the road to calvary, since ripping out the Communion rails, he has fell 3 x 33,333 times, I have witnessed it as im sure many of you have and cringe and shutter each time! Plus, Jesus should be given to us by the hands of consecrated priests only! THANK YOU FATHER for speaking about this, let's continue to pray for the Holy Holy Holy Mass to return to its beautiful divine state!

Yes we do need a return of the communion rail and the Tabernacles need to be returned to the center of the altar. Thank you, Father.

Amen Father! I'm old enough to remember the communion rail from my early youth, sadly by the time I was in 3rd or 4th grade they were removed! 😔

Thank you Father! Yes please bring back the Communion Rails! If we need to petition Rome for this to be universal practice, I am in! This is One, Holy, Catholic Church, one procedure is all we want. We want the Sacred traditions back. Also if our priest officiating at Holy Mass can make a short announcement either at start of Mass or before receiving Holy Communion that we need to be in full communion with the Catholic Church and in the state of Grace by going to Confession before receiving Holy Communion. People don't know this because for the past few decades our catholic faith has been watered down!

I'm so happy to hear you say that!!! As a convert, when I first learned that it was the true body, blood, soul, and divinity of our Lord Jesus Christ present in the Holy Eucharist, I could not imagine handling the host with my hands - I've always received on my tongue FROM THE PRIEST!! Please keep preaching the truth! We need more good priests to speak up and speak out! God bless you Fr. Goring for your courage. I pray for you everyday on my rosary that God will protect, guide, encourage, and fortify you! I wish more priests had your clarity, courage, and reverence.
