Even though a lot of the slang is dated, I think this movie is super aware when it comes to commentary. Well, for the most part. Fun fact. Gabrielle Union's character was written as a negative stereotype of a black woman, but she took it upon herself to dial it down and make her a well respected character and cheer captain

Also a great representation of cultural appropriation of black culture/dances. Reminds me of the whole situation that happened a couple years ago. “14-year-old Jalaiah Harmon of Fayetteville, GA is the creator and choreographer of the viral “Renegade” dance routine”. It became super popular and the NBA had TikTok influencer, Addison Rae, Charli D’Amelio and Dixie D’Amelio fly down to teach their cheerleaders the dance. These white influencers didn’t tell the NBA that they didn’t create it and gained so much by performing it. They performed during the halftime show and got so many sponsors from this dance, when the girl that created it didn’t get her own credit. I think they finally acknowledged it and the creator was featured in a Scooby-Doo ad or something.

yes but this was more than CA it was about how NON-BLK ppl always steal from BLK PPL and profit or benefit off of us than the BLACK PPL who are the ORIGINAL CREATORS of many things like think about Elvis Presley for example whose whole career was founded off of blk ppl's music he copied form literally AND Doja even made a song about it calling him out .....

@@chatnoir-i8x More than CA? What does that stand for? And yup, that’s what I said, cultural appropriation of black dances and culture. Has been happening for so long. Think about even Southern comfort foods that Paula Dean and others are famous for, we now know that many of those dishes originated from slaves making the best of the scraps they had. But who benefits from these recipes? Who’s on tv mostly?

My high school squad actually got to cheer at an Arizona Cardinals halftime show with 3 other squads picked throughout AZ and I was in the very front on the 50 yard line! It’s definitely one of my favorite experiences! @@nikkis7375 Awe that’s understandable, it’s hard if you’re at a school with a small squad. I was also kinda nervous and shy about doing it too until my friend talked me into trying out and then the more I did it I just fell in love with cheer and that shyness just kind of goes away..I wish I had started when I was a kid and then maybe I could have done it in college. Idk how old you are but there’s semi pro football teams in some cities that you could try out for? That’s what I did after I graduated high school I cheered for a semi pro team for a year until I moved out of state for college. You should look into it? It’s really fun I promise and the more you do it and the harder you work you feel more comfortable and confident in doing routines and stunts🙂

Just like how Teachers scold the whole class for laughing at a class clown's lame joke. It sucks, but it happens. Seeing the two guys on each side getting uncomfortable during clovers parts when they mention their cheer being stolen and how they kind of side with toros by saying "it's not that bad" makes me uncomfortable x-x just know you don't need to be uncomfortable, just understand this happens still. I suspect this became a Patreon-Only part, but I wish I could have seen you guys react to the end credits to this movie. The outtakes and cutting up the actors did behind the scenes was just as hilarious as the rest of the movie. Bring It On is close to my heart chiefly because of Gabriel Union, and seeing her career rise after this movie. She’s a fantastic actor, and the way she literally fought for her character in this movie to NOT be a “stereotype” Inner City girl (that the producers continually wanted the character to be!) is an inspiration. It’s criminal the way they used her and the rest of the Clovers cast to create a “fake” trailer. The original movie as presented didn’t test well, and the test audiences wanted much more of the Clovers, so they had the Black actors film a bunch of scenes - more scenes with the Clover team, a possible love interest story between another girl and some guy we never see, and more cheer action scenes with the Clovers. It’s what drew me to see this movie in the theater, personally. (That, and having been on a cheerleading team in middle school, though not nearly as intense as these teams.) However, the trailer was the ultimate “bait and switch” at the time (and still!). I felt so robbed! This is the most animated I’ve seen you three during a movie/show reaction. You all were having a great time - I’m glad you enjoyed the movie! However, I apologize, on behalf of year 2000, for the absolutely cringe dialogue in the movie overall (especially the use of the “R” slur and “F” slurs!). Social discourse hadn’t started evolving yet, so we know much better now. Also, Roger Ebert (famous movie critic) called out the tortured swearing language in the movie as failed attempts from the producers to avoid a hard R rating for the movie, to protect the PG-13 rating they were going for. (“Missy’s the poo, so take a big whiff”? Creative but very cringe attempt at avoiding the “harder” swear words they originally wanted to use.) There are several sequels to Bring It On, but the original producers left after the first movie. I never bothered with the sequels; rumors are that they’re mainly re-hashes of the first main plot. Which, **big yawn**. Finally, you all are SO YOUNG!! OMG! I’m “GenX”, [50] so I have both interest and second-hand embarrassment in seeing younger viewers watch the movies I watched when I was young/young adult. Pro Tip: DO NOT watch earlier “cult” movies from the 80’s. As cringe as the language is in this movie, it gets way worse the farther you go back. Especially DO NOT watch “Revenge of The Nerds.”

You guys should definitely do Bring it on, all or nothing as well. I was a gymnast and loved these films but we don’t really have cheerleaders in my country haha

As a former cheerleader, cheerleading is a big sport we have competitive world competitions which is something called competitive cheerleading where teams around the country go to compete for the world championship. We also have a team USA cheer where we compete against other countries. This movie is a cheerleaders cult classic. It’s a right of passage lol. 😂 love you guys btw ❤.

So your assessment about the movie not highlighting rivalry enough was a complaint from test audiences when the movie came out. They ended up adding footage of the clovers to the trailers to make the movie look like it focused more on them than it did.

I saw this movie for the first time a few months ago bc I was the only one out of my friends who missed out on it in their childhood. Happy to rewatch with y'all and cringe along with some of the lines 😂
