Great update Kev. Purple lights look cool. What about contacting a local mobile valeting company and pay them to do the initial decon wash, fallout remover, tar & glue, clay bar, wheels and interior hoovering. I'm sure you could negotiate a great price per car. Then that leaves you just to do the paint correction and final finessing ready for retail. Cheaper that employing someone and probably save you a couple of hours per car.

Thanks for the update kev, its starting to look great now! Thats quite the dilemma. I think the most important thing is to not conpromise on quality, which is either keep the prep inhouse or outsource to a trusted professional. Perhaps this is a good opportunity to hire someone inhouse so you can train them up against your processes/standards rather than outsource to what i call the "10 minute slapjob" carwashes 😂 that way you control the quality from trade in to sale but obviously depends on finanes. Either way, you've proven you're miles ahead of the average main dealer so keep up the great work 👍

The only thing I am not keen on if you don’t mind me saying is that flat roof extension. I think it really lets the cars and the building down. A nice covering of feather edged boarding to soften the look and give it a classy country feel could look incredible.

I have a 2014 phev. I have found the electric range is poor he will need a charger fitted to the house. The other main problem with it is the heating so make sure the heating works. As there is an electric pump and filter that gets blocked and a 4-way valve which stops working.

Wouldn't initially a part time assistant (an early retiree from the Motor trade) be a smart move. Loving the content, for extra help have you thought about taking an apprentice/young person on, that way you can train to your standards to support but you will also give them skills for life, money to buy own equipment and possibly if they are driven enough the encouragement to start own business.

(and Alfie) As you say, you have a 'nice' problem, but it is still a problem as you know, and you can't really carry on as you are because the last thing you need is a queue of customers wanting to buy something that you simply haven't got. You have decided to expand your business, which is fantastic, but with that, you have to make the changes that come with expansion, sadly it is inevitable. You have now got a bit of breathing space over the next few weeks, something that I didn't have when I found myself in a similar situation, when you have 10 hours to do 15 hours of work is no good, especially when it comes to your health and happiness and the effect that it has on your loved ones and other folks in your life. I don't think for a second that you have got to this stage yet, but it did for me, and very quickly too, it just creeps up on you. On a brighter note, I found the answer, and maybe it will help you too. I put the feelers out for some help, but not full time, just when I was stuck, and you would be really shocked that there are so many folks out there that have retired, or taken early retirement, but still need to be involved in something but at the same time, not stressful. Retirement sounds great, but it is a huge shock to the system for some, and not always welcome. I actually found two whilst just looking for one, and believe it or not, they were both happy to help for free, just for 'something to do'. Before anybody in the comments starts slagging me off for taking advantage of anybody, I don't, I am not made that way, and I am certain that you are not either Kev. In return for their kindness, they would get a bonus every now and again depending on how things went, use of the workshop and tools totally free of charge, no bill for any help they needed, free use of any vehicle as they were on my insurance, so I worked it out with my insurance broker that their cars were insured with mine also, so didn't cost them a penny, we were there for them during lockdown, but they just turned up, 2 meters apart and went shopping for others, some that were younger than they were. It's nice to be nice.. I know that you are meticulous with vehicle prep, you could still do that, but somebody else could wash them, hoover them, and maybe take them for an MOT, or help to drive cars from the auction? I always had to pay for breakfast for some unknown reason though. 🤔

I had a Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV 2017 last year. Great to drive however it does very few miles on the battery and also wasn’t up to towing a caravan. Lovely to drive though!

Hi kev & Claire,so the outside lighting looks cool and very christmasy 😊on the subject of you possibly having help I know I commented last time about this but watching and listening to you I would say you will find it very hard to let someone else do the stuff you normally do and that's ok to feel like that as I would be exactly the same but with the winter months coming maybe taking someone else on isn't the best move anyway and maybe just stick with you for now and see how you feel next year but you can't change who you are and how you feel can you,I reckon you're mum and dad will be well happy with that outlander as definitely an upgrade,keep up the great work kev🙂👍

Hi Kev, another good update. I had the same problem with my roof in 2016. Water gets into the hairline cracks and when it freezes, ice forms which widens the cracks slightly. Ice melts and the water finds its way inside. The cracks eventually close up again and all seems okay until the next heavy frost. I eventually replaced the roof in 2018.

I struggle myself with letting others getting involved with the preparation side of the cars, as no one ever seems to put the same effort, time and passion into it as ourselves but it seems to be a part of growing the business to have to let go a little bit and just take a bit more of an overlooker & quality control position, theres just not enough hours in the day to do everything yourself unfortunately is there!! But everythings looking fantastic mate, theres worse problems to have I suppose 😂

On that Audi A3, you really wouldn't expect that being a car that causes you trouble would you, so soon afterwards as well. But it's only a battery, you've been out and replaced it. As much as you don't want to say it, your suspicions are probably right. Operator error I assume.

Good to see you are at least thinking of changing. You have a tight window for the next two weeks to get people into a new car for Christmas. Valeters may be quiet so give them a try (they are not 20k cars so need to find the balance) get the cars ready for sale asap. It’s a long time until February when things will likely pick up. and then up against new year trade ins.

The garage is looking great Kev. Top work, apart from the Xmas lights! 😂 I was just on your website, after seeing the 1 series on the forecourt. But your website seems a little out of date, although I guess there’s a delay in the videos coming out. It’s great cars are selling without advertising, but it feels like you’ve reached the stage where you need help, in order to supply the demand and keep on top of everything else. You need an apprentice - someone you can teach the same attention to detail and perfectionism that you strive for. Might take a bit more time initially, and even if you have to finish off what they start it’ll pay off in the long run.
