People thinking the rent it’s cheap. It’s not, that’s actually expensive. Income in Mexico is way low.

Housing prices fluctuate wildly through the country and there is a range of housing for every income level. I live in Mérida and for 500USD a month, I have a 2,400-square-foot detached house on a large lot just 10 minutes from the historical centre, but a house like this in the south part of the city would easily be half the cost. And I know folks in Monterrey who would think this CDMX rent is inexpensive.

Depends who you are referring to? If this person's can afford this is because their job pays them very well. Unfortunately just like any country with out an education the pay is way to low.

@@eddiem384 I've lived in Mexico for several years and there seems to be a parallel economy here for the middle class and wealthy versus the poor. I really see it in my city of Mérida, with the city split between the rich north and the poor south. Everything in the south, from houses to utility services, is priced for those folks who make only a few thousand pesos a month. In the north, things are priced for those who make tens of thousands of pesos a month. But we all have the same basic quality of life -- the same potential and opportunity to own a home that meets today's standards of hygiene, to send kids to decent schools, to get adequate healthcare. I'm not saying that there aren't parts of Mexico, or even Mérida, where there are people who are in absolute desperate poverty, just as there are Mexicans who are ridiculously rich. But the purchasing power of a family here that makes 5,000 a month versus 50,000 is the same when it comes to basic things -- they just have to shop within their economy. My cleaning lady and I were talking about this recently. Between her and her husband, they make just under 6,000 pesos a month. It's easy to imagine them living in some hovel with a dirt floor, right? Well, they own a house almost as large as mine in the south part of the city, and it's nicer, too, as it's newer. There are tons of programs to help Mexicans become homeowners, regardless of their income, and Mexico has one of the highest rates of homeownership in the world. TL:DR: Stop looking just at the salary, but rather at the purchasing power for that salary. The disparity with salaries in countries like the US then becomes a lot smaller.

The dollar right now is pretty high but if it was low like in 2005 the rents would be equivalent to $1,200 USD 2,300 & 1,800 USD plus utilities. Can only guess rent for a place is high cuase supply and demand for space. unless u can get help paying rent and not need roommate any that is good. just gotta learn to live with less and save funds for needs anytime. i have learned that over the year or more and try enjoy what already got and not get wants so often now.

Now I show you my $1200/month 300 sq.ft studio in Seattle haha. I am seriously considering going to Mexico and live there for a month or two . I’ve never been to Mexico but I hear a lot of great things about it. Mexico City and Puerto Vallarta are my top two destinations so far.

Very nice apartment on par with what we have here in the States. I have to say though, the air quality in Mexico City was just terrible when I visited. And this is coming from an Angeleno!
