Bristol Airport, U.K. Flying to Teesside International Airport. 02/07/21
Bristol Airport (IATA: BRS, ICAO: EGGD), at Lulsgate Bottom, on the northern slopes of the Mendip Hills, in North Somerset, is the commercial airport serving the city of Bristol, England, and the surrounding area. It is 7 nautical miles (13 km; 8.1 mi) southwest of Bristol city centre.[2] Built on the site of a former RAF airfield, it opened in 1957 as Bristol (Lulsgate) Airport,[4] replacing Bristol (Whitchurch) Airport as Bristol's municipal airport. From 1997 to 2010, it was known as Bristol International Airport.[5] In 1997, a majority shareholding in the airport was sold to FirstGroup, and then in 2001 the airport was sold to a joint venture of Macquarie Bank and others. In September 2014, Ontario Teachers' Pension Plan bought out Macquarie to become the sole owner.
In 2019, it was ranked the eighth busiest airport (overtaking Glasgow International Airport from the previous year) in the United Kingdom, handling over 8.9 million passengers, a 3% increase compared with 2018.[6] A passenger survey carried out in 2015 found that 32.5% of journeys using the airport started or ended in the city of Bristol, 9.6% in Gloucestershire, 24.5% in Somerset and 16.9% in Devon.[7]
Airlines with operating bases at the airport include EasyJet and Ryanair. The airport has a Civil Aviation Authority Public Use Aerodrome Licence (number P432) that allows flights for the public transport of passengers and for flying instruction.

I remember going on a bus ride to Bristol Airport back in April 2021 when due to Covid travel restrictions there were very few, if any flights. The bus station was deserted and the terminal building seemed to be closed. Nice to see there is some life in the place again

This airport is not fir for purpose anymore. I travel regularly from Bristol Airport as it is quite local to me, saving on time and travelling expenses. From arriving to the airport outside. I won't comment on the dropping people off in cars and the cost as I haven't done this in a few years. I generally catch the Falcon Bus from Exeter to Bristol Airport which is usually a great reliable and affordable service. However where the bus terminus is located at the airport you have to push all your luggage and wheelchairs uphill. No easy feet if you are not very strong. Then you have to negotiate some steps. Once inside it all looks very organised. After check-in its up the escalator to go through security. This isn't too bad either depending on the length of the queues of course which you would get anywhere. After the Duty Free route you are now in the main waiting area. Chaos begins to become noticeable. There is never enough seating so people end up sitting around on the floors as you are required to turn up at least 2 hours before your flight departs. There are further shops here too. You then have to negotiate more stairs to get upstairs to where the majority of the eateries and drinks are. However if you would like to chill with a pint or a glass of wine before your flight you can think again. Expect to stand in yet another queue for up to an hour!!!! Staff look miserable and are painstakingly SLOOOOW. No urgency to serve their guests and make sure they have a great start to their holiday whatsoever. You will be hard pressed to find a seat after you have made your purchases. On the rare occassion you may find a seat with a table expect to clear the dirty crockery from the previous occupants yourself. Although it could take a while to work out where to place them when you have collected them. Usually for me the floor will suffice. Having thought you had enough time to eat and drink your purchases you will be surprised how the time has been used up just queuing for it in the first place. Bristol Airport does have a Lounge area which you book and pay for prior to arriving at the airport. Although this was not fit for purpose either . They have apparently refurbished it this year. I have yet to try so won't comment on this. There are however lots of TV screens around for you to keep an eye on for your flight updates. But be warned Bristol Airport does not usually make announcements about flights and gate departures so make it your business to find out for yourself. Be prepared for a very long walk to your said gate. However again I think this would apply to many airports. You are then caroled like cattle to the aircraft gate if it has arrived or not. So be prepared for another long stand up queue as everywhere else. On your return flight to Bristol Airport after your wonderful holiday you can expect to negotiate more stairs both upwards and downwards and a long walk. Usually you end up queuing on the stairs with your hand luggage and tired children as the latest electronic readers do not work. After you have tried to insert your passport you are then told to join yet another queue for an actual person to check your passport. Once through passport control you now make your way to the luggage collection. You can expect to wait at least an half hour here trying to spot your suitcase. Then we think we are home free just one more doorway to get through - NO there are 3 and usually security waiting to check all your luggage for contraband items. Once outside you can negotiate all the steps again and the downhill slopes to the bus terminus. There is a waiting room provided there with toilets and a vending machine. This is great when it is raining and cold. All in all it seems Bristol Airport is all about the money you are spending at their airport to the total exclusion of your airport experience with them or your comfort.

I think it’s badly designed. There’s that long passage way to the west boarding gates that’s almost half a mile long but they never thought of designing it so they could install travelators. Then for some weird reason the boarding gates to the left you have to go down stairs and a few metres later back up. It’s also one of the very few airports of its size that doesn’t have air bridges.

Why are the duty free staff REFUSING CASH PAYMENTS? No warnings and no signage. I understand it is illegal to refuse cash payments for an item unless our unelected Tory overlords approves this new standing order to wrestle even more public control away from their banks. Utterly unacceptable.
