Robert Patrick (the new terminator) ran track in school. For this role, he worked at making his running look smooth and machine-like and he actually ended up getting so fast that he was catching up to the vehicles in certain scenes by accident. Sarah's development between movies is one of the most incredible. Linda Hamilton transformed her body for the role to embody the warrior Sarah has become and it really sells the performance. But she still has the drives and instincts of a mother, which are central to her motivations. The fact that her twin sister Leslie had to get in the same shape for the mirror shot & Sarah v Sarah scenes makes it even crazier.

Sarah Connor and Ripley from the Alien films are perfect examples of strong female characters. It shows amazing character development. This movie is one of my all-time favourites. I was about 13 when I watched it the first time. All the characters are great but I do like the fact, that Miles Dyson is not some lunatic scientist trying to rule the planet. He is just a regular human being with a wife and a kid but he is also very ambitious. His character reminds me of Alfred Nobel who simply wanted to make mining safer for the miners, so he invented dynamite. Unfortunately his invention turned into something utterly evil.
@waitingforgodot466
@waitingforgodot466 Жыл бұрын
I loved that too. He's not a nut case who doesn't care at all about humanity or someone so overly ambitious people don't matter to him. He's actually a nice guy who cares about his family and people in general. He's excited about the possibilities he sees but he's not a 2 dimensional bad guy. He's just a guy. I love how his family reacts when under siege, too. They are terrified but trying desperately to protect each other. Solid acting. Makes the whole thing more poignant.

Miles Dyson was a real hero. Once he knew what was going to happen he decided to work with the people who just shot him in order to save the world. He even gave the cops who shot him time to get out as he was dying. Dyson deserved far, FAR better than he got.

I've said this in countless reactions to this movie - but I love the juxtaposition of Sarah literally turning into a Terminator-like assassin when she goes after Miles Dyson to stop him from creating Skynet and only stopping because she realized as the last second what she was about to do, and become by doing it. Not to mention the incredible performances from everyone in that scene, and the entire movie. As others have said, not just one of the best sequels ever, one of the best movies ever made, hands down.

The best action movie of all time and best use of CGI. They knew all of it couldn’t be CGI, so they mixed in practical effects and made you guess which was which. The arm scene was all practical. You will never see practical effects like this in a movie ever again. Everything looks fake. The CG in this holds up like crazy for that reason. Liquid metal ruled the 90s. Now it’s so overused, there’s no such thing as a live action Marvel movie in 2022. Half of it is obvious CG and doesn’t have the same impact. This is terrifying because it looks real.

@@kabirconsiders This movie and the first were two different movies. The first was a dark sci fi thriller bordering on horror. I liked that one more. Unfortunately it only had a 6 million dollar budget. The second one was action sci fi and way less dark. The effects are night and day better as they had a 75 million dollar budget and a full green light from three studios. Night and day difference in quality, but less dark and more buddy action movie. Cool callback: When the T-800 (Arnie) sees Sarah again (really meeting her for the first time) in the psych hospital, he says, "Come with me if you want to live", the line Kyle said to Sarah when they first met in T1. The T-800 basically took the place of Kyle, protecting Sarah. Love little gems/callbacks like that. Edit: Oh yea, and another cool tidbit---Robert Patrick (T-1000) is brother to Richard Patrick, lead singer of popular industrial rock band, Filter ("Take a Picture", "Hey Man Nice Shot", etc).

One of the best adventure/science fiction movies of all time, without a doubt. I always marvel in a way at the difference in the 'deaths' of the two cyborgs. The T-1000 falls screaming into the molten steel desperately trying to find a way to escape it. The T-800 (The Terminator) goes peacefully and willingly to his death, knowing that it was necessary to complete his mission. Maybe he can't cry or feel emotion, but he learned to understand it. He therefore accepts death to complete his mission. To protect John and through him to protect the future. The franchise should have ended here, with the final message of hope being the point of it all.

Seeing this in a movie theater back in '91' is one of my all time favorite movie going experiences. Also you may notice that when Arnie reloads the M79 grenade launcher it makes a _"thoomp"_ sound, that's actually the sound a real one makes when it's fired. I know because I used it a lot during basic training. I guess James Cameron decided to take some artistic license and edit the sounds.

I'm not here to be a jerk or a know-it-all, I'm just going to carefully place a comment here and then silently walk away, and it's perfectly fine if you did not know this before reading this comment, or if you did, either way, it's all good, and even if you just don't care about any of this, that's cool, too. Here it goes. The very first movie to use CGI was either Westworld (1973) or Vertigo (1958), depending on what you count as CGI. And from that time until 1985, CGI was few and far between, because it tended to look... not good, and was super expensive - 12kb computer in 1973 cost $4680, 384kb computer cost $500 in 1984. Around 1985 was when computers processing speed could be counted in megabytes and not kilobytes. Computers could take up whole floors in a big building and yet still weren't as fast or as good as the phone in your pocket. So, before 1977, unless it was Star Wars, which hardly had any, or any of the experimental films that were entirely computer generated and were very primitive looking by today's standards, anyway, before 1977, the movie in question probably had no CGI. And before 1984 (the year the first Terminator movie came out), the list is 12 movies, that's how many movies incorporated CGI between 1980 and 1984. Tron (1982) had a ton of CGI, but was still so much in the CGI infancy that they had to film the computer monitor to get the CGI shots. So, anyway, I said all of that just to say that anyone can just say "special effects" if the movie is older than 1985 because that is a term that includes CGI. It's like looking at a dog and you have no idea what kind of dog it is so you say "cute dog" rather than say "cute Husky" and it turns out that it's actually a Norwegian Elk Hound, so you're golden.

For the purpose of getting rid of the subconscious tick that a vast majority of people experience when they hear an extremely violent noise such as a gunshot. Which is why when he and Arnie have their shoot out in the mall Robert Patrick doesnt blink even once while firing his gun at Arnie. After T2 in 1991, Linda Hamilton would star alongside Pierce Brosnan in 1997 on Dante’s Peak, which is another great hit to check out from the 1990s and features some great CGI, practical effects, and the largest miniature sets in film history. All of which holds up very well today. Dante’s Peak was also a nominee for best visual effects but lost to Titanic that also came out in 1997 and was also praised by scientists as being the most accurate volcanic disaster film ever made, which also helps that director Roger Donaldson had a degree in geology before he became a movie director.

there was an alternate ending to this movie, which would have ended the franchise with T2: a scene of Sarah at a playground as an elderly lady in the year 2029, with a voice-over explaining that they stopped Judgement Day from happening. she was watching as her son, John, was playing with his own child, and he was now a senator instead of the leader of the human resistance.

The thing about planes flying themselves has been standard for years now. Planes can and do takeoff, fly and land without any imput from the flight crew. The crew are there to take over if anything comes up. One time the wrong destination was imputed and the crew didn't even know they were going the wrong place till they started talking to ground control about landing.

It's kinda ironic, what you said about CGI at the end, considering the use of CGI, which was in it's infancy at the time,, was one of the major selling points of this movie. Just like present-day, James Cameron pioneered cutting-edge movie making technology in most of his films, including this one. CGI had just started being used in filmmaking, with this movie being one of the very first to implement it for special effects, before it exploded and forever changed filmmaking, in the few years after this movie.

There was no CGI in The Terminator. The first use of CGI as we know it was in The Abyss in 1989. Terminator 2 was the first usage of a few minutes of CGI.

This movie was very impressive on the big screen when it came out. CGI was still relatively new and in most movies it have been used in it looked a lot like a video game. This movie did have a couple of dodgy CGI moments, there were enough excellent ones to make up for it. When the T-1000 walked through the bars, the head shot, and the reversal in the factory fight were amazing and got big reactions. It has also long amused me to think that the shrink ended up in Sarah's old room after having his world shattered so severely.

Among the many Terminator films out there. I only acknowledge T1, T2, and the mini film T2:3D as canon towards each other. The rest are just dismissed as "alternate timelines." Like a "What if?" scenario.

Hats off to the helicopter stuntpilot in the final chase scene, I get chills everytime he flies in after them in the tunnel. They even crashed the helicopter into the truck for real. It really makes you appreciate the time before CGI took over. Even if they of course can do amazing stuff with it, it still feels like there's a sort of vail over the screen in any action movie nowadays. This movie really hit the golden spot though; Before CGI was a thing and with a huge budget to be able to make Good practical/real effects. I prefer it any day.

John's foster mother is the same actress as Vasquez in Aliens, another series where #2 was so much better than #1, while not making the first movie look bad. Both series kinda crashed & burned with the third movie. I love Jenette Goldstein. This is more how she really looks, then in Aliens. She's in my favorite vampire movie ever!

Back when they destroyed the lab was the point that you knew there would be more sequels because if the destruction of that lab was the only source of study for skynet both terminators would have ceased to exist. A basic law of time travel.
