You’ll now have conflicting advice on whether to watch the sequels. There’s something you might need to be aware of to be able to make a clear decision. Many of them are quite good action movies. One of them has to be the weakest, and unfortunately T3 is pretty poor by comparison to the first two, which didn’t help how people viewed the value of the sequels. I thought some of it was excellent, other parts weee cheesy. But for years I couldn’t understand the hate that all the sequels got. Then a couple of years ago I figured out why. I saw the original theatrical releases of all of them, and in the theatrical release of T2 it doesn’t do the ‘happy ending’ where judgement day never happens. It does indicate that the future is now unknown, but then the later release of sequels seems to point to the idea that with some things you can change the course of certain things by changing the past but you may not be able to stop the momentum of the change. Sort of like going back in time to stop yourself eating at one restaurant for lunch might make you go to another but you still get eat the same basic meal anyway. For those that saw only the revised happy ending on DVD they’d understandably be looking at any further sequels with a negative viewpoint. For them, they had a fantastic two movie franchise that neatly wrapped up and needed no more story. Added to which, James Cameron did not want to be a part of most of them (except the final one where it ignores the sequels between it and T2). So, if you want a bit more of Terminator action stuff, go ahead and watch the sequels. There’s some cool stuff in there if you can ignore some of the cheesiness of T3 and you pretend T2 didn’t do the ‘happy ending’.

I don't remember seeing the commercials or trailers, but the first time I really watched T2, I was already thinking of T-800 as the good guy since everyone liked Arnold Schwarzenegger and he seemed very nice when I saw him doing TV shows. So, I was already cheering for the T-800 when it first encounters T-1000. Then when I realized there was another movie that took place before T2 and it had a T-800 as the villain, I had to get used to that.

If memory serves, here are the differences between this on and the theatrical cut: 1. Scene of orderlies beating Sarah up added in this version. 2. Dream sequence with Reese added. 3. Scene of John and Sarah fixing up the Terminator and Sarah wanting to smash the chip added. 4. Scene of the T-1000 killing the dog added. 5. Family scene with the Dysons added. 6. Scene with the T-1000 glitching out after defrosting and reforming added. 6a. Shot of T-1000's feet glitching out suggesting that said glitch is how John identifies it added. 7. THE BIG ONE: Bizarre utopian ending. The theatrical cut was a bit more ambiguous. It was a bumper-eye-view shot of road from a moving vehicle with a voice-over by Sarah say something like: "The future lay before us like a dark highway, and Judgment Day was no longer inevitable. I could now hope that if a machine could learn the value of human life, we could too." (N.B. this is a paraphrase - I don't know the monologue exactly). If you want more Terminator: -T3: Rise of the Machines isn't bad. I liked it, particularly because of the ending, but many do not (probably for the same reason why people dislike The Godfather Part III - 1 and 2 were so great that the third movie, being only good, looks bad in comparison). -Terminator: Salvation and Terminator: Genesys are tres meh. These are soft reboots of the story and take place in the future after the machines have taken over. -Terminator: Dark Fate - a direct sequel to T2, retconning away T3, Salvation and Genesys. I also takes place in the future and replaced John Connor with Yass Queen Slay! This movie pissed off long-time Terminator fans, and its existence suggests that James Cameron forgot why the first two Terminator film were good. -Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles is good. This was a TV series from the SyFy Channel that lasted only two seasons and unfortunately ended on a cliffhanger. If one can get over the lack of closure, it is definitely worth watching. Starring Lena Headey in the title role, it is a sequel to T2, takes place in the early 2000's, and it involves Sarah and John running from another Terminator sent to kill them, but the Connors accompanied by another reprogrammed Terminator, played by Summer Glau (as well as some other interesting stuff).

Plus 1 on the TV series. Darker than T2, as the endlessness of Sarah and John's unforgiving existence is played out. The Future War is explored some more...and it's very bad, even in the days leading up to victory. Because each iteration of Skynet gets more dangerous and subtle. The cat and mouse between Future John and Skynet is ugly. Lena Headey brings it as Sarah, lonely, crazy and haunted. And dealing with a teenage boy.

@@feudist agreed! The show is replaying on "H&I Channel", so I'm rewatching the show. Even if the show has 'filler episodes' it's still great. John is after all still an angsty teen, and Sarah is trying to be TOO tough. sometimes.

Linda Hamilton said that the actor who licks her face was really gentle to the point that he first refused to shoot the scene. She had to insist that she was ok with it. In fact, she found it more funny than disturbing to shoot.

In the deleted scene where they make Sarah take her meds, the actor who plays the orderlie kept messing up the take with the hits causing retakes and it bruised, wore and tired Linda out to the point to where she got frustrated with him. Linda Hamilton said that the smack to the nose with the mop handle was real even though she claimed it was an accident at first but she actually meant to do it as revenge from that situation. That's why you see actual blood fly when she lands the hit.
@slchance8839
@slchance8839 6 ай бұрын
I think the reason why they put the "lick" in the scene is so that the audience thinks it's ok for Sarah to BRUTALIZE that guy later with a broom stick, otherwise, she would come across as a real bad guy by violently assaulting a chubby guy just doing his job. I think it's the same thing with Dr. Silverman and the other violent orderlies, so we can feel better about Sarah beating them up during her escape attempt. If Silverman and Porkins were super nice health care professionals trying to help sick people, we'd be horrified at Sarah's tactics.
@KHAOE1
@KHAOE1 6 ай бұрын
@slchance8839 if that was the case then they should have just left the deleted scene (the orderlies abusing Sarah) in. That would have summed up Sarah's actions perfectly later. I think the reason why that lick was added in was just for detail...a way to see if he would get some kind of response from Sarah since she was acting like she's completely lost it. She took it pretty well because that was just gross lol.
@slchance8839

@@KHAOE1Instead of licking her, if he had tucked her in gently, pulled the blanket up around her head and neck to be warm, and said "if you can hear me, Sarah, John's missing, but I'm sure John will be ok. Dont worry. Get some rest...." should she still have she have hit him 3 times across the face, head, and back of the neck with a 3/4 inch wooden dowel rod/broom handle when escaping?
@KHAOE1
@KHAOE1 6 ай бұрын
@slchance8839 after he licks her face he goes "Hmph"....like "You're not gonna do anything huh?" No response...I'm sure the abuse has been going on for as long as she has been in there. Which adds even more fuel to the fire for her to bash his nose in later during the escape. I mean come on now also knowing that there's another terminator in the present and John is in danger also gets her wheels turning. You CAN say by then she doesn't care anymore how she gets out. By any means necessary to save him.

You are watching an extended version with scenes not in the theatrical release. Kyle Reese was not in it. WOW! The truck exploded and something happened behind you?! Perfect timing. In a deleted scene from the first film, the last battle where Kyle was killed and the Terminator was crushed took place at Cyberdyne, where Miles Dyson works. That’s why they had the first Terminator’s chip and arm. “Leave them alone! They are trying to save world!” I have heard that and felt that from theater audiences and reactors! That final thumbs up in the molten steel have made grown men tear up! That last scene with Sarah Conor as a grandma was not in other versions . SPOILERS! some clever use of twins in this: the security guard at the hospital is played by a set of twins, so that when the terminator mimicks him, it's the two twins appearing in the same shot rather than some split screen camera trickery. Also Linda Hamilton's twin sister appears in a couple of scenes: in the playground scene where Sarah dreams of seeing herself, the "self" she sees is played by Linda's twin sister. And again in the scene where Sarah operates on the terminator's head infront of a mirror, it's not actually a mirror but again Linda's twin sister in the "mirror image"

33:12 One of the most brilliant uses of cinematic juxtaposition, ever, where Danny and his toy robot save Miles Dyson from being shot before John and his toy robot come in to save Sarah from shooting him, and then John wants Danny to show him his toys but won't let Danny look at his toy show itself. Such beautiful scene construction.

Aria, this version was the Extended Cut, but with two scenes that were not supposed to be included in either the director approved extended version or the theatrical version. The ending, dubbed "The Future Coda Scene," with an older Sarah and John Connor is disliked by Cameron because it's way too happy and makes no sense. John and Sarah would have been labeled domestic terrorists and been on the run after the destructive events of T2. John would never be able to run for or win high office. The real extended cut and theatrical cut share the same ambiguous ending with Sarah saying something similarly profound about the Terminator over a traveling tracking shot of a black highway at night illuminated only by car headlights. "The unknown future rolls toward us. I face it for the first time with a sense of hope, because if a machine, a Terminator, can learn the value of human life, maybe we can too." FYI

Terminator 3 is not the film that I did not fear, but (almost) the one that I dreamed of in silence: it is not a remix, nor a reloaded, it is not a marketing exercise in déjà vu, but, simply and plainly, a pure sequel, like the from before, a subordinate narrative but capable of opening new windows and closing circles, a fiction with a past whose main character (John Connor, here almost a young Brad Dourif in the shoes of Nick Stahl) seems to move and act under the weight of what he has experienced in the previous film, but better acted, with more action scenes and better effects. T3 is gold, the problem is that everyone wants a happy ending. Everyone feels entitled to a happy ending. People have forgotten how to appreciate works of art that don't feed that selfish desire.

The only real Terminator films are the first two James Cameron he never wanted a saga In 1984, he created, wrote, directed and produced a big screen nightmare he made in a hospital, but it wasn't very well known yet, the budget wasn't big enough and some of the special effects didn't exist yet. So he was forced to give up some aspects of what he originally wanted to do in order to reduce the budget and get around the technical obstacles... For example, originally he had the idea of two Terminators, one good guy who is mechanical (the T600) and another bad guy who is made of liquid metal (the T1000), but he had to give it up due to lack of budget and technological advancement The success of the first Terminator film made him so much money that he could now finally bring to the screen the scenario he had in mind from the start So, he wrote, produced and directed Terminator 2: Judgment Day... That's why we find similar scenes: the arrival of the Terminator naked in front of people who laugh at him before regretting it, the chase on the highway, Sarah Connor wounded in the leg, the factory, the false ending with the false death of the evil Terminator before he comes back to life In Terminator 2, James Cameron did not want his work to be taken over by others and become a saga, he killed the Terminator by blowing up Skynet's building, destroying the arm and chip of the 1st Terminator (the one from 1984) by throwing the T1000 into the lava and diving into the lava himself The two Terminator films are not talking about cyborgs but about humanity An indication confirming that my point is correct and that the threat denounced by James Cameron is not technological but human, is the scene in T2 where two (human) children are playing with toy guns, one saying to the other "I killed you", "No, I killed you ! You're dead!" and John Connor telling the T600 "We're not gonna make it, are we?" and the T600 responding "It's in your nature to destroy yourself." The film ends exactly as it should, with the very point James Cameron was trying to make through the Terminator oeuvre (1 and 2) : "The unknown future rolls toward us. I face it for the first time with a sense of hope, because if a machine, the Terminator, can learn the value of human life, maybe we can too." The subject is not cyborgs but humanity! There was never supposed to be a Terminator 3 (and therefore no 4, 5 or 6, obviously!), but Hemdale Film Corporation, which is the studio that has the rights to several films including Terminator, went bankrupt in 1991 and sold its entire repertoire, and therefore the inherent rights, to Consortium de Réalisation, a French company owned by Crédit Lyonnais... The exploitation rights of Terminator thus passed to other hands ... In 2003, Terminator 3 was released. James Cameron refused to participate and shot down the Terminator 3 initiative in the media He never wanted to make Terminator a saga! But he couldn't do anything about it, the contract with Hemdale no longer existed as the repertoire was bought by another studio, James Cameron had no control over his work at all That's why it took so long for him to come back to participate in a Terminator (Terminator : Dark Fate), and in my opinion, he did it knowingly to demolish the saga! So that Terminator would be worthless, lose all credibility It was his way of putting an end to the saga.

That happy ending is not in the theatrical release, but in this alternate ending John's father would probably still be born and live but not experience the events that led to his knowing John as the resistance leader and going back in time to Sarah. However, there would be nothing stopping John or Sarah from looking up a younger Kyle Reese - in fact in an episode of "The Sarah Connor Chronicles" a teenage John gets a few minutes look from afar at his father as a kid. BTW, that Sarah Connor Chronicles series was very good and arguably better than the rest of the movie sequels.

I was laughing when you realized Arnie was the good guy. Glad no one spoiled that surprise. And now you know why virtually everyone says this is the best Terminator. And yes, the version you watched was fine. As the extended edition, it just had a few extra scenes. The ending you saw is the only ending of T2.

The mirror shots of the modification of the CPU to make Arnold into a learning AI was done using Linda Hamilton as Sara Conner 1, Arnold himself, an Arnold dummy for the back of the head shots, and Linda Hamiltons twin sister as the other Sara Conner 2. One of them had to do the shot left handed since they were supposed to be a mirror image. Linda Hamiltons sister was also used as the "soft waitress" Sara Conner playing with the child in the playground for the dream sequence. As far as salvaging the arm from the original terminator to fix Arnold in T2, the good arm from T1 is the right arm, the arm that was ruined in T2 was his left arm... can't replace a ruined left arm with a salvaged right arm. This is not a spoiler, but the theatrical release did NOT have the end shot with grandma Sara, it ended with her speculating that perhaps humans could learn the value of human life... spoiler alert, if we could there would not have been several more movies and TV shows! I much prefer to accept the end of the extended cut of T2 and pretend the follow on movies and TV shows don't exist... in general they suck and destroy the lore of the first two movies.

The Protectinator. As a kid in the early 90's this movie was absolutely amazing to us and still is. We were just like John Connor. "Easy Money" This was during the birth of CGI and it was mind blowing, just like Jurassic Park. They didn't depend on it, they utilized it in its infancy. There are actually two sets of twins in this, the cop's and Sarah's. I honestly cried at the end the first time. I can't lie. "It's when there's nothing wrong but, you cry any way."

Great reaction to the best sequel of all time. And, thankfully, you got to be surprised by the twist, which is awesome. For those of us who were alive when the movie came out the idiots who put together the trailer ruined the twist by putting it into the freaking trailer. But Arnold was a huge name, so of course the trailer was going to focus on him being the hero. Ugh. The man taking pictures while looked stunned in the mall is the same character (and actor) who was the police officer that Arnold took the police car from in his pursuit of Kyle and Sarah in the first movie. That's why he looks stunned: he knows who this guy is and he knows the damage and killing he was responsible for the last time he saw him. He's also the source of the current day photos the officers show Sarah in Pescadero. It's not mentioned or referred to in any editions, but it is an Easter Egg that a friend of mine showed me. Robert Patrick trained so hard for this role as the T-1000. Learning to run full speed only breathing through his nose, and he was fast enough a sprinter that he actually caught the dirt bike in the mall parking garage. He was so amazingly intimidating in this movie, as much as or even more so than Arnold, and that's saying something! When the orderly licks Sarah in the hospital, that was apparently one of the so-called catatonia tests done by unethical or sadistic orderlies according to an old friend of mine who had worked in a few psych hospitals, mainly in California, back in the late 70s and early 80s. It wasn't unusual for patients to try to get an advantage by pretending to be catatonic, hoping that the staff would think that they were out of it and not pay much attention so they could try to escape, create havoc, or whatever. Licking someone's face was a mild way of testing, according to my friend. The more standard way of testing among the more brutal orderlies was what was called a cup check, basically hitting the person in the crotch as hard as they could with a broomstick or something like that (the tonfa, shown in the movie, or a billyclub, wasn't standard when he was working in the field, so the evil jerks had to use other items like broomsticks, fists, or knees). If they didn't react then they were catatonic. And, sometimes, the catatonic patients needed to be taken to the hospital due to the damage inflicted by whatever the orderly did causing ruptures or internal damage. Apparently one patient lost his testicles as it was several days before it was realized how badly he had been hurt. And, of course, no one ever knew how it happened. “He musta fallen, or done it to himself to try to get out of here.” My friend never missed that job. He told me that some people did things worse than that, but those stories don't need repeating. There are two sets of twins in this movie. One set are the brothers who played the security guard at Pescadero and the T-1000 imitating him. The other set are Linda Hamilton and her twin sister Lesley who played the other Sarah in the sequences like the nightmare where there are two of her are in the same scene. Lesley, a nurse in real life, passed away a few years ago. The T-101 learning to smile was cut from the theater edition, along with the 'brain surgery' preceding it, cos it doesn't add anything of value to the story, but it does lead to a point that amused me once I saw it. After the failure copying the young man's smile unsuccessfully, the Terminator begins copying John's mannerisms and his one sided half smirk smile. This is best seen in the exchange after he hefts the minigun in Sarah's arms bunker. I remember learning that Cameron got a letter from a group of scientists congratulating him for the most realistic depiction of a nuclear detonation in a city in Sarah's nightmare. This horrified him since he was just trying to create the most over the top terrifying image he could, only to discover that it was accurate. Luckily, Sarah stepped back from Terminator mode before killing Dyson, which is good. Killing Dyson wouldn't have changed much of anything anyway. Cyberdyne still would have had the parts, all his notes, and everything they needed to complete the project. Judgment Day would have come, just on a different day other than Michael Jackson's (and my little sister's) birthday. The excellent Joe Morton, who played Dyson, had an accident that punctured one of his lungs when he was younger, so he knew firsthand how Dyson should be breathing/gasping at the end. Dyson was a real big damn hero in this movie, believing enough to sacrifice himself for his children's future. And I know that the Dyson mother and children left at the same time that he left with Sarah and company. No way he'd leave them in harm's way! It was a matter of future historical record where he lived so they all knew the T-1000 could end up there. The new mangled arm would be useless to Cyberdyne as only the chip had the encoding that led to Dyson's breakthroughs. The arm might lead to advances in ultralight, ultrastrong metallurgy, but without Skynet's presence that would mean nothing much. And though no one usually recognizes her here, you've seen John's foster mother before. She's Jenette Goldstein who worked for James Cameron previously. Cameron likes using actors he's liked working with previously in his future projects, like Michael Biehn who played Kyle Reese in the original Terminator before playing Corporal Dwayne Hicks in Aliens. To keep the Aliens link, Jenette also played the ultimate badass female marine Vasquez in Aliens. More screen time and lines in Aliens, but alas the same unfortunate end. 😞 I think that the extended edition had two advantages over the standard edition. Though it wasn't obvious in its performance, the continuous damage the T-1000 was taking from every shot that hit it and every impact/explosion was affecting it. It is most obvious at the scene in the smelting plant after being shattered when, as shown in the theater release, its feet tended to take on the aspect of the flooring as it walked and, in the extended edition, when it grabbed a railing its hand stuck to and mimicked the paint job on the railing. Also, in the extended edition, at the final scene when Sarah is calling out for John, he looks down and sees that the fake Sarah's feet look like the ironwork that the T-1000 is standing on and he knows for sure which to trust. The extended edition variant ending is also superior (to me) for one more reason: it ends with older Sarah sitting on a playground bench and watching her adult son playing with her granddaughter, meaning that this Terminator movie is absolutely the end of the franchise, and all the movies that steal the name of the series after this are just lame cash grabs and can and should be avoided like the plague, in my opinion.

i prefer this extended edition for a lot but not so much the ending, i feel like while i understand James Cameron wanted this to be the last, the other ending sufficed but it's worth the rest as to why the terminator was able to learn and smile. We also see that the machine itself wasn't bad merely a reflection of it's owners will.

Watching them trying to make her take her medication, it made me wonder how DO THEY actually make a noncompliant patient take medication? Sarah wont just say not, she'll stab you in the knee and get otherwise violent. How do they do that in real life, I wonder? It probably wont be gentle, especially if she's hurt hospital personnel before.

Great reaction Aria like always, This is a great movie i can say that this is a perfect example of a sequel is better than the original. There are some fun facts about this masterpiece of cinema. Production took so long that Edward Furlong’s voice and height had to be altered the movie ended up taking so long to film that Edward Furlong, who plays John Connor in the film, had grown considerably taller than in the first shots he had filmed, and his voice had also deepened. This resulted in his voice having to be dubbed in the editing process. And, to keep his height consistent with Linda Hamilton’s, he had to stand in a hole in the ground in some scenes. Linda Hamilton’s twin sister appears in the metal works scene The T-1000 is the master of imitation and can quickly morph into anything it touches. In the metal works factory towards the end of the film, it transforms into Sarah Connor, and at one point the fake Sarah and the real Sarah are on screen at the same time. But there was no camera trickery there. The decoy was played by Linda Hamilton’s twin sister Leslie. Linda Hamilton suffered permanent hearing loss during this movie. And the Rodney King incident happened right next to filming. One night whilst filming the biker bar scene, unbeknownst to the crew, right across the street, Rodney King was being beaten badly by police officers; a case of police brutality that sent shockwaves across the globe. The incident later inspired James Cameron to write the film Strange Days. Keep up the amazing work.

Even though i dont like that alternate ending, T2 is the greatest action movie ever made. The theatrical cut of the movie ended with the ambiguous shot of a dark road. In this shot, Sarah finishes her narration, not knowing what's going to happen next while still giving us a lot of hope for the future. It was perfect. This theatrical ending perfectly parallels the ending of the original Terminator where Sarah goes down another road, knowing exactly what's coming. Terminator 2 is also one of the greatest - if not the greatest sequel ever made. Linda Hamilton was totally robbed of a Best Actress nomination as Sarah Connor. She is one of the greatest and strongest female characters ever put on film. But unfortunately everyone took Lindas powerful and complex performance for granted at the time.

The filmmakers have been fond of making the audience feel the effects and often used real things like explosions, gunshots and as you saw there are a few very expensive things like the helicopter. At times some nasty injuries happened even, Terminator Salvation I believe. In this one they used a very accurate fake torso of Arnold and shot at it, I "think" it was the hallway fight scene. I got to see this among a number of famous movie props at a showing once and even stuck my finger in one of the holes in the prop Terminator chest. It's such a cool memory.
