For me it's the sense that these are often deeply unhappy people living a fantasy, and encouraging the whole world around them to play along and pretend it's real in the hopes it will make them personally feel happier. Indulging people in mental or emotional insecurities seldom makes them get better. There's a reason there is a shockingly high level of suicides among post-surgery transgender people. Making MORE people become transgender isn't going to fix that.
