As always, if you have a question about the changes that British Airways have made to the membership year end and how these changes will affect you then please fee free to leave a comment, and if I can't get an answer then I'll find someone who does. www.britishairways.com/content/executive-club/faqs/tier-point-collection-changes Thanks Phil ### *UPDATE ON NEW BRITISH AIRWARYS TIER POINT COLLECTION PERIODS: “THE TRANSITION PERIOD”* I want to make a clarification about what I describe as “Part 3: The transition Period.” My understanding of this was that it wasn’t a *“live collection period”* and was only going to be used to assess status on 1st April 2025 and I was mistaken. Although, I think everything I say in the video still hold true (he says having recently watched the video to check), this clarification is important. On the 1st April 2024 the transition period begins and this is running “in parallel” to your current year but this is a “live collection year”. Essentially this is the new rules being applied to everyone from the 1st April. If you have a collection year in progress that still stands, but the new rules essentially come in from the 1st April 2024. Let me give you an example: I currently have 60 tier points. From the 1st April to the 8th July I earn an additional 500 tier points (a la my example in the video). On the 8th July I will have 560 tier points but on the following day I will have 500. This is the incredibly poorly worded “tier point adjustment”. I will be Gold until 31st August due to my grace period and then I will soft land to silver. If I then earn 1000 tier points I will immediately get back my Gold Status, I will not have to wait until 1st April 2025. I will have status from when I earn it in this period until the 30th April 2026, then I will soft land to Silver until 30th April 2027. I have called the British Airways customer support line and the call was answered within two minutes of holding and my queries were answered with confidence and professionalism, so I have confidence in this comment that I’m making. I said I was going to let things sit for a week and decide what I was going to do, well *currently I am firmly in favour of earning 1500 tier points to achieve Gold from 1st April* and will aim to complete that before my status runs out on 31st August this year. Great video Phil-I think that helped? I believe head for points do a good breakdown on this and each month-so am I right in thinking you can’t rely on your whole years soft landing from gold to silver but this will be calculated around the new April to April format and how many TP’s you’ve earned?

Great video. As you say some "Gold" seekers want to collect early in their membership year to maximise duration of benefits. When everyone has moved to April-Mar, I wonder if BA/OneWorld will push up prices around April to e.g. June knowing this? Although I imagine pricing is based on lots of other factors. My membership year is Oct, so I'm just going to push on for Gold by around May which means I'll be Gold until Nov 2025 (I think) - I can cope with soft landing to Silver for a reduced period. Then I'll decide what to do after that.

With my Abu Dhabi run on the 31st March , and my executive club year ending 8th August, I think I'll set up a new membership in March to add half a year to my membership

For most of us it’s a great thing - I can do a good points run before my expiration in June and it’ll then count towards my requalification for next cycle too! I’m just jealous of people that have until later in the year to do better points runs for double-taking!

Thanks for the great video. At 8:08 you said that your status will be reassessed on 1st April 2025, based on TP earnt in the transition period - but reading the HfP article table doesn’t this reassessment take place on 9th July 2024? So the 500 you earnt before get recredited to your current year then. Now for the 1000 TP earnt between 9 July and 31 March 2025, the shortened collection period - I don’t think you would have to wait for 1 April 2025 to regain gold, it would be as soon as you hit tier point 1000 (having already had 500 put in the bank on 9 July?), unless of course tier point 1000 is earnt on 31 March. So you get gold back as soon as you reach the 1000 new TP and then for all of the next April 25 to March 26 TP year. Does that make sense or have I missed something? This is the July member end quote from HfP: “A Tier Point Adjustment will be made at the start of your shortened collection period (on 9th July 2024), re-crediting any tier points you earned from 1st April 2024 - 8th July 2024 Any status earned or renewed during this period will be valid until 30th April 2026”

Calculations and adjustment periods are understandably centred around the award of Tier Points but I have seen no mention of the the other status qualifier of number of BA flights in the period eg 4 for Silver. With the potential of shorter earning periods to 31/3/25 is a similar adjustment made to capture the number of flights when status is adjusted at 31/3/25.

hi Phil, thanks for the video. I'm dyslexic and just hearing numbers and dates turns my head to mush ha, so can i ask, as I can't get through to BA. My usual tier collection year ends september 8th each year. I have been really pushing for my gold tier this year, and i booked the last tier run (London-NY biz rtn) Sept 12. Just realised this overlaps my Tier collection end date. Ive worked so hard this year to get to gold, (currently on 1200 points) it would be a huge kick in the pants to miss it by a few days. So I'm wondering, with the way tier points are all becoming April 2025, will my sept 12 biz class flight get me to gold or will it reset. Thanks for your time Phil. We're used to it here in the US, as most (if not all) of our airline's FF schemes follow a standard 01Jan-31Dec tracking period so it's always a mad scramble during the 2 major holidays in Nov and Dec. Poke!!! - Red

Hi. This is really helpful, thank you. Anyway upto the point I lost the thread. My current year ends on 8th January 2025. I am currently silver. If I travel on holiday in mid March 2025 and accumulate 800 tier points which year or years do they go towards ? Thank you, confused from Kent.

Forget OneWorld and BA. It's an absolute drag now. Try Star Alliance. Easy to get SIlver or Gold on routes like Aegean Athens - Tirana etc. Cheap and rewarding. Still get the lounge access and good hub airlines.

If Qantas restricted their First Class lounges in SYD/MEL (and Cathay Pacific did the same to their Pier First Class lounge in HKG) to only passengers actually First Class and OWE members in Economy had to use an "Emerald" lounge instead, would BA Gold still be worth it? or would Silver (Oneworld Sapphire) be enough?

Thanks for the video. I’ve been really confused. My date is 8th March. I’m currently Silver so does this mean on 8th March 2025 I will revert to 0 tier points? Does this mean that I basically lose the status and not have it for the next year? It’s pretty unlikely that I will earn enough points in 3 weeks!

So if examples are correct, my current year end is 8th july. I am expecting to earn 360 points in may and nothing else until after my current membership renews. I am subsequently planning on earning 1200 sometime before christmas. For 2024 i will achieve silver status but from April 2025, this will jump to gold status as the period April 24-Mar 25 i collected over 1500 points? Is this correct view?
