The 'That's the way I always heard It should be' song that she co-wrote was an incredible piece that I think was at least one of her best, even though it was pretty dark, and even called it a weird song when she performed it. It's not weird if you grew up in that time period (which we did) and lived through family life.

All these videos are dragging up memories for me that I had completely forgotten! - My friend and I, cruising to the beach in her Chevy Nova, hatchback open, speakers blaring- and us singing, "Stay right here, 'cuz these are the good ol' days!" At that time, I had no idea how prophetic those lyrics are. Man, we were so fortunate at that time, to have these great artists, performing the soundtrack to our lives!

The 70's were huge for music. From the 1910 Fruitgum Company to Carly, to Led Zeppelin, and so many bands you cant name them, the range of music was so much fun

If you're "of a certain age" and from the States, you may remember this being used in a ketchup commercial, demonstrating how thick and slow the pour was from the bottle. It was the "anticipation" part that was used.

This song really showed me why I love music so much, I was not feeling good before I listened to this song, This was always my favorite Carly Simon song. This version is incredible, never realized how short the song was, but it is really upbeat. She has a big smile on her face while she is singing it. I loved it when the drums came in, was just not expecting them on the all acoustic track. Just a great performance, I did not realize how many albums she had put out or how well they had done. The song changed my mood, still thinking about the melody, she could make a great melody to a song. I had just been reading my daily devotion before I listened to this and it was about music. People should really be grateful for music that moves them.Jim

I was so fortunate to have grown up in the 60's and 70's . The music was absolutely AMAZING , concerts were cheap ( 5 to 7 dollars ) and we saw so many bands and musicians that will never have an equal . Carly set the standard females musicians and her albums became part of my life . But , looking back she set the standard for the girls and women I was attracted to . Obviously she is a very beautiful woman . But , it was her talent , her sense of humor and her insight on people that made her the type of woman I wanted to be around . The " I'm pretty , so I don't need to be interesting , fun to be around ( have a sense of humor ) or insightful girls " rated zero with me . Carly .... was THE woman for many men in those days . PK

On this "Anticipation" video by Carly Simon not knowing much about her was impressed with her performance. She sings well, and her feeling & delivering her song I was impressed with. Obviously she's young here & n her prime, & also gorgeous!!

Very good composer ! Love her stuff ! Good on piano and guitar as well ... not a virtuoso on either instrument , but played some very tasteful parts for her music ... she’s a real Entertainer

What is interesting in this performance is for a person so crippled with stage fright she looks and sings like she's having so much fun. She's gleaming. You're So Vain was also featured in the movie Dick. In one of the best sequences in that movie. It's during the punchline of the movie.

I remembered her at folk festival weekends and she would write songs on a 8x10 sheet of paper and sing rough draft that night.she was sweet and soft spoken.yes those were the good ole days by 2020 music is awerful

I remember what a huge hit Youre So Vain was and how it had a mysterious quality due to Jagger being on the cut, singing with Carly towards the end. People would think it was about Mr. Vain : Jagger. However she eventually cleared it up saying it was about some famous rich guy she'd had a relationship with. Im sure that was the reason she picked Jagger for the vocals, to create the mystery ! I saw her once, as I was coming out of the subway and turned the corner at 89th St and Central Park West, the back side of the Dakota, where John and Yoko also lived. She and James lived there too, at the time. I lived a block away and once saw Yoko at the corner Korean deli, shopping. New York is full of moments like those. I met many during my taxi years.

These are the good old days. By which I mean the 1970s. This just reminds me of how lucky we were (those of us who were growing up back then) to have had so much talent all around us. She still owns my favorite Bond track of all time.

Carly Simon has always been an important musician to me. I have at least eight vinyl albums of hers that I don't ever want to part with. I love her. In the late 70's even my plants thrived as I began listening to Carly's music while I was suffering from an extended bout of depression. Carly's ability to convey a range of feelings through her music, lyrics and voice was my saving grace at a very difficult time.

Fil....I have always said that the true artist for me is one that can write, compose and play. Too many things today only sound good because they were made in a studio. I have seen some acts outside of the studio that we’re just not very good.

I was so lucky to be there back in those days. You had Carly, Carole King, James Taylor, Neil Diamond, Crosby,Stills and Nash and more ........... They definitely were the great old days!!!!!!!!

I love the explanation Klauss Voorman gives for the intro Bass lick on “ You’re so Vain “ Klauss is an interesting guy , he also played the intro Recorder on “ Mighty Quinn “ , and played bass on the song ... he’d just learned the bass guitar , courtesy of mostly George Harrison helping him out , when he ( Klauss ) realized he couldn’t compete as a guitarist . Carly always had the best players on her LPs ... smart woman

Hello Fil, There is a video here on YT that discusses Carly Simon's biggest hit "You're So Vain." It mentions that Mick Jagger is singing background vocals. If you listen carefully, his singing is apparent as Carly ends all of her vocal lines smoothly in rhythm with the song, while Nick's staccato approach stands apart from the general flow of the song. Check it out I think you will find it interesting. 🙂

Another interesting Rock Background vocal to listen to is "Riders On The Storm," by The Doors. In the chorus, you can hear Jim sing the lyrics, then, in a spooky whisper, he sings his own back up. It gave me goosebumps the 1st time I heard it! 😮

Carly Simon was hugely popular in the early seventies and rightfully so. Fil is hitting all the best chosen examples of 60s-70s female singer-songwriters. I remember the days where you couldn't turn on AM radio without hearing Carly or Karen Carpenter. But please do not forget Laura Nyro !

The other singing Simon sister was Joanna Simon. Joanna Simon was a well-known opera singer in the 1960's and 1970's. She later dated Walter Cronkite. Carly Simon is one of my favorite singer/songwriters. Her lyrics were both thoughtful and insightful. No Secrets was a great album!

I won this album back in 71' from a radio station contest (I think it was like be the 10th caller and rip us off for this album) I have been a fan every since then. Thanks Fil for another great video !

If the landlord wanted to get rid of stragglers at closing time, he would come up to me and say "' Oi Chelle, get up and sing Carly'' and as if by magic, the pub would empty. That's an example of my singing ability. I could tear alcoholics away from alcohol!

Solid performance. Before your commentary in her performance I thought that it was odd that she had stage fright and delivered this so well. It’s true what you said: Saturday Night Live she pre recorded, “You’re So Vain,” due to her stage fright. Also, I remember the Heinz Ketchup commercial well as a youngster. Terrific singer though.

I read in a contemporaneous magazine article this song was written about waiting for her first date with Cat Stevens. She also licensed the song for Heinz Ketchup commercial. Damn, you got around to talking about these things. I should wait until the video is over before I start typing. Great research!

She was very popular. Her songs were just pleasant and relatable. She had terrible stage fright but you never could tell. She and James Taylor were the romantic item of the day.

"These are the good old days" has always been one of my favorite lyrics of all time. And it makes TOTAL sense. Whatever we are doing RIGHT NOW in our lives...later on...as we get older and look back...actually ARE the good old days we will look back on, remember and love--from the perspective of the future that we look back from. This helps us not to take things for granted. Not to take the present for granted...for THESE are the good old days that we will eventually look back on.

Thank You for celebrating Women’s History Month with the legendary Carly Simon. She didn’t just have stage-fright, but a a severe anxiety disorder, with major panic attacks. I have the same thing. Music saved my life. As soon as I hit the first note, the anxiety fell away. It’s the best drug. Getting on that stage and getting to the first note, however, is brutal, and requires an incredibly high degree of courage and commitment. Thank You, Dear Fil. These are the good old days. ❤️
