He is easily the best phraser and melodic guitarist of his period.hes over sixty years old as well. Wonderful talent.its a shame kids now seem to have forgotten him. I took my kids to see him when they were aged ten and he came and played his solo in front of them...my eldest son was blown away. The torch was well and truly passed!

Michael is my all time favorite guitarist, and what makes him even more special is the fact that, at certain points in his life, he fell on very hard times - being forced to sell his guitars, being completely ripped-off by management to the point where he was facing being homeless, and falling into substance abuse ... In recent years, he has shown that he has overcome all odds, is playing better than ever and is very personable in interviews ( something that was not always the case ) .. Thanks for the video, great job !!

I could not get into the more recent albums songs, but on stage is where the magic is. Just "discovered" the album Written In The Sand, what a fantastic release. One of my favorites is still Arachnophobiac, just wish the production was a bit better but I love the in-your-face guitar sound.

What I like most about this is how Michael plays with quiet and relaxed confidence; the kind of confidence that only comes with experience and from knowing that you know what you're doing. When you're good, there's no need to show off. Good music always speaks for itself, and so does good playing.

melodic sense at genius-level. I don't toss the term genius around much, but it applies here. Schenker is the most melodic, rock player you will ever hear. He is simply on a higher level than everyone else when it comes to melody. Other great players can certainly come up with a great melody in a song. Michael can weave many great melodies together in the context of one song. Listen to songs like Bijou Pleasurette, Tales of Mystery, or any of his later instrumental albums such as Thank You, or The Odd Trio, and you will hear compositions filled with stunningly beautiful melodies - some simple, others incredibly intricate. It's not just in his songs either. The melodic sense carries over into his rock playing and lead style. His rock songs - particularly the instrumentals like Captain Nemo and Into the Arena - often feature beautiful melodic themes. His lead work is also incredibly melodic, even when he's blazing away at top speed. It always boggles my mind - how many ideas and melodies Michael hears in his head. Technique and chops. Pure German precision. Michael is an awesome alternate picker. He has blazing speed, wonderful elasticity, and a fabulous vibrato and intonation. All of it utterly controlled and consistent. He's a Porsche, a Mercedes, and a BMW all rolled into one. The Ultimate Playing Machine.

Michael Schenker, along with Uli Jon Roth, Gary Moore, Eddie Van Halen, John Sykes, and Randy Rhoads, is one of those marvelous guitarists that can blend incredible technique with tone and melody. Some guys can manage 2/3 or just one, but to achieve all 3 attributes at a world-class level? Hard to do. Michael's return (from battling alcoholism, which crippled him on stage, at its worst) to guitar god status is one of the most heart-warming things I've seen, as I was in attendance at one of his darkest nights (June 2007) when his MSG band opened for the Scorpions. He was in such a bad way that we all feared the worst. But here he is, back to his best! and has continued this rich vein of form. \m/

I remember seeing Michael when he played at the Marquee. Always an incredible voice on guitar and like all the greats you know when he’s playing. Always melodic and unafraid to sound more European and less obviously pentatonic like the American or Brit players of the time. He has a glorious downward vibrato on the lower notes and yet a lovely fluid style that never sacrifices speed for melody or intensity. A much underrated great imho. Also proof that one’s musical aim (dexterity and harmony) doesn’t have to disappear as you get older.

Even Phil Mogg (UFO singer) "allegedly" didn't pay Michael his fair share since he didn't spoke english to the point of even requesting it. According to Michael's version at least. But I can see it being true because artistic gifted people often suck at social skills, sometimes almost reaching a point of autism, and street-smart people can sense that, taking advantage of course. If there's a true survivor in rock, it's Michael Schenker.

I don't know if i missed this or what (crazy few years). I looked and couldn't find a comment but need to say Thanks for giving this some time. Myself, lucky enough to see Michael for the Temple Of Rock tour, Heritage Theater, Santa Clara. Whole gig was amazing. Still got it ? OH Yeah !! Plus some sage patience as well. He started the gig with one of 3 or 4 Dean V's. First being a yin and yang BW look. Sounded killer. 2nd song, he breaks a string. Hands it off and plays a gold foil V. Sounded good but different (testament to the venue's sound system). Gets yin and yang back and then out put jack failed. He walks back behind a screen and i'm thinking 'this is it, he's gonna lose it !' Nope, a kaliedascope one like what's on the vid here. He played this the rest of the show. read all the guitars for this tour were later stolen. Sux. btw, Fan since '74 with Rock Bottom, seeing UFO at Winterland as an opening act (!) for Force It. Saw him in '84 for MSG at the Keystone PA...co guitarist of a band i was in "I'll buy tix if you drive'. Yep ! man, 2 V's here (cort arrow. IBZ RR Sr). Should have bought the Dean MSG Retro i saw years ago. Thing was awesome ! ROCK!!

His sound with UFO,was iconic ,half cocked wah ,and such electricity/energy,and what vibrato, great solos and fills, one of my favourites from that era,"Obsessions"was an awesome example of his sound/solos.

One of the top 10 best rock guitarists in my book. He has great feel and is technically brilliant. His vibrato is second to none and he plays with great fluency and drama. His playing, if anything has just got better with age. Listen to any recent clips of his solo on Rock Bottom.

I've been a fan of Schenker since the 70's. He's actually a better guitarist now from a "technical" standpoint. I prefer his earlier tone, but he still sounds great. The Temple of Rock albums (his current band) are very good. One of best ever!

UFO, "Strangers in the Night" double album, with Michael Schenker as lead guitar .. recorded during their 1978 USA tour. It is the best hard rock album of all time. I sorely miss that type of sound and playing which was a staple of the late 1970s hard rock, and then, whoosh, it was gone. I once read that Slash too thinks that is the best hard rock album ever recorded, and he listens to it regularly to find inspiration.

I saw UFO at The Civic during that era, Mechanix tour. Paul Chapman. Loudest show i ever saw but too loud with our seats being first row balcony straight out from the stage, it was litterally too much. Only time anything was 'clear' was during Train Train with the acoustic intro. Still happy for the memory ;)
