One thing to really pay attention to, is that the best players do not OVER play their leads. They know when enough is enough and understand restraint is just as much a dynamic as a fast run.

This is a huge part of art in general. You don't want to leave anything out, but you don't want to overstate your case ... or distance someone from your heart, or theirs. Music is so close to poetry, and poetry is a constant battle along the same lines. Luckily music has a way to express emotion without taking it too far in a way you can easily identify in prose.

Gary Moore is maybe the greatest guitar player that people in the USA have never heard of. I got to see him twice live in his metal days and he blew me away! Saw him back up Rush in the 80's, never heard of him until that night, never forgot him after! Got to see him in a small club for his Wild frontiers tour also. His emotional playing is unmatched and his technique was incredible. Blessed to have seen him. RIP to another great that passed before his time.

What a performance! George looks so happy, and my god what a solo ... that break where George comes back to the mic almost giddy around 4:14, you said it - it's like, George wanted to belt it out or something, he wanted to honor that magic with some sort of answer but at that point in the song all he had was his voice to contribute and it wasn't nearly enough to convey all the thrill he felt at that solo. I don't know, there was some point there in that solo where you just have to drop whatever you are doing or thinking and just marvel. Thanks for presenting this and linking to the original. And, writing in December 2022, hope you are feeling better each day.

I remember hearing Gary gleefully telling of when he went round to George's place and, possibly to amuse George, Gary played the famous opening chord from A Hard Days Night, which he had carefully worked out. "That isn't it ," said George and showed him the correct voicing. Beautiful.

Hmm, go to Nashville. You and George had a different set of players in mind. What always happens is that what gets sold gets more important. Songs. You know about the IPhone, not the chips inside it. You know about action stars, not their stuntman. You know about song writers, not players. Some writers are players, some players are songwriters. How come, you think of Glen Campbell? See what happens there and tell me if George is any good on comparison.

I've watched a few interviews lately and in one Gary said that George Harrison was very inspiring to his playing very early on and that he was a great fan of his way of playing. And I've watched a video of George talking about how Gary ended playing a solo on the Traveling Wilburys single She's My Baby, and how he created the solo for that in 5 minutes that George thought would take him and Jeff Lynne hours and still wouldn't be the style they wanted. And how Gary was incredible and one of the best guitarists in the world in his eyes and howit didn't come across from his records and that he was extremely impressive close up. And both talked about how they became neighbours and then became friends. And then you see them play together and it's a guitar match made in heaven and they seem to be in absolute bliss. A truly heart warming story. edit: the interviews: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/hdGqg5iczJeblac.html (Gary Moore) kzfaq.info/get/bejne/gbVkm9V8ytXOfYE.html (George Harrison)

What a perfect way to end my All-Gary-Moore-All-the-Time-Day! Anne Mickleson was kind enough to give me a place to start with a link to his "Dust My Broom", which led to a glorious half dozen analysis videos, all the way around the blues to The Old Grey Whistle Test performance with his Thin Lizzie mates! (It was sweet to find that he and Phil Lynott were the composers of the lovely 'Parisienne Walkways'!) Of course, 'While My Guitar Gently Weeps' is practically in my DNA, but I never got the whole 'guitar weeping' part...thanks for the illumination and the chance to see that big laughing grin on George's face when he was hearing Gary's solo! @@Art_Martial Wow, I can't find Prince arrogant without being a racist? That's some messed up thinking there. But I guess that's how the internet works and what some people like about it. You do force me to point out that you do not know much about Prince if you do not think he was arrogant, and from very early on in his career. On another note. your use of the word "entertaining" is meaningless as that is entirely subjective. If you had said you feel or believe it was more entertaining, instead of putting that forth as if it were a fact, I would back you 100% because nobody but you knows what entertains you most. But you're in no position to dictate what is more entertaining for anyone else. Similarly, you presuppose too much by implying that rock is not modern and that anything more modern is more entertaining. Is Mozart less entertaining or in any way inferior because he didn't wear duck costumes like Elton John or dance like Beyonce or Madonna? You have your tastes and presuppositions, but that's just it -- they are yours, not facts you are bringing to the table. And your hostile racial implications are discrediting to you, not me.

I consider myself blessed to have been young, and impressionable while Giants like Gary & George still walked this World... 💯👏💖🙏

Totally agree, both are such iconic players .George, for his songwriting [and being A BEATLE!] and Gary, for his entire career,as a solo artist, and with Thin Lizzy, and ,both lost, too early ,and sadly missed, but theres still the music ,which is timeless.

George played on Gary's1990 album, Still got the Blues. He contributed slide and rhythm guitar on his own composition, That Kind of Woman. So this wasn't the first time they collaborated. They obviously had great respect for each other.

It is fascinating how much good will and respect George Harrison generates, even today so long after he passed. I mean, everyone loves Paul of course, but the adulation for George is just on another level. He never stole the show and was happy to let others shine. Like here. And he does seem to be quite enjoying Gary's playing. And Gary is sooooo talented and good. Perhaps it is why he was chosen to replicate George's guitar parts in the "Concert For George" back in 2002. This is a wonderful video, Fil. Your enthusiasm for music comes right on through. We love that! P.S. The version of WMGGW that has George and Eric Clapton playing together at the Prince's Trust Concert (1987) is unreal. Their dueling solos toward the end is perhaps one of the most incredible "bro videos" I've ever seen.

George enjoyed playing and hanging out with his friends. He shows it in his smiles. I love George's voice and all his songs. I love it from the beginning. I loved Don't Bother Me from the first album. George is having so much fun! I have loved him for 55 years. He was so humble and down to earth. Look at him smile. Gary is excellent. George would have loved the Prince version. ❤️🌹❤️

The concert for the Natural Law party, George's last on stage appearance in England.(also his first on stage appearance in England since 1966!!) Didn't read all the comments and replies but I wonder if anyone noticed that George is playing "Lucy" the guitar that Clapton gifted him and that George had at the studio when he invited Eric to play on the track. Gary Moore is just phenomenal , it's a pity both he and George left us too early

Great review Fil. I have to add that I get the feeling that George is so far blown away by Gary utterly nailing such a relentlessly soul busting guitar accompaniment, he’s absolutely unable to disguise his joyfulness at what Gary is contributing to his song....and it surprises me not one bit....such consummate playing, such a beautiful song. Best wishes, Charley.

Feel the same as @Windwar attack, My husband & I were married 37 years this last January, and the only "Beatles" we could agree on was George Harrison. We both loved his post Beatles music. (neither of us like Ringo...., he liked Paul post Beatles, while I liked John) But he passed May 26th this year and listening to this, and some other music we both liked, I start the waterworks still. I feel the same as you, we were blessed for the years, he was only 60, 6 years older than me😭😭😭😭😭

I was at this concert, and being a great fan of the Beatles and Gary Moore, what a great surprise I got when it was announced at the end of the evening of Gary' s concert, that he had a surprise guest coming on. When George appeared, I was gobsmacked as were the people I was with. It's true as stated, that you could not clearly see the drummer, and until I saw this, I did not realise I had seen Ringo Starr ! All in all a great Gary Moore concert was topped off by a fantastic duet of two of my favourite guitarist/people.

As you say such pure Gary moor sound...my husband is a black cabby and years ago picked up Gary course he had to call me to say " guess who I have in my cab" (nightmare for celebrities loI )spoke to him briefly he was so nice and then they had to stop as he wanted a pint of milk! I did ask him about his Barry Manilow look alike keyboard player and he said he had stopped to breed cats .
