The play under review. The runner was out by force from the catcher having his foot on the plate, since there were runners behind its a force out. But he slid into the catcher to prevent the catcher from making a double play throwing to first base. Since the catcher was still on the plate when the slide started, it was a smart play by the runner to take down the catcher preventing a double play. Umps reviewed the play to see if the slide was clean, if not, they could have counted it as a double play.

Also, ALDS stands for American League division series, and this is game 5 which in the DS is equivalent to a game 7. ALCS would be the American League championship series, as opposed to NLCS, and the WS is the World Series. The order goes ALWC/NLWC (wild card, best of 3 games), ALDS/NLDS (best of 5 games), NLCS/ALCS (best of 7 games) and WS, (best of 7 games)

If you're asking about the worst error ever, I think most baseball fans would tell you it's Bill Buckner in the 86 world series. The poor guy got death threats for years after he let the ball go through his legs

One thing not shown here is in the top of the inning, there was a crazy play where the catcher tried to throw the ball back to the pitcher and it hit off the bat of the batter and a run scored. It took the umps 20 minutes to figure out how to rule it, but they allowed the run and that is why Texas is winning 3-2. This was all sort of a revenge inning for the blue jays and especially the fans as they were mad about the call.

As a long-time Jays fan, this whole series was absolutely electric and memorable. Everyone in Canada was watching this. It still gives me goosebumps. What a wild wild series!

Important context for this inning is that earlier in the inning the Rangers had scored the go ahead run when the catcher's throw back to the pitcher bounced off the Texas hitter's bat - the umpires allowed the run and the stadium went BERSERK. So, the energy (and tempers) were already sky high going into the back half of the inning where the video starts.

The third error was at third base, but the base was being covered by the short stop (Elvis Andrus) who made the first error. Second error was by the first baseman making a bad throw to...your guessed it...Elvis Andrus.

I'll never forget this inning in my life. I wasn't even watching, I was a delivery driver listening to this on the radio and to hear the drama and emotion swing back and forth for about 45 min trying to comprehend all the batshit happening that I couldn't see was driving me mental. Then that detonation of the crowd when Jose crushed that dinger had me screaming inside my van at the windshield at the top of my lungs. I must have looked insane to drivers within earshot but fuck it, what a moment. Go Jays 😂

In my opinion, this IS the craziest inning ever, definitely the craziest in post-season history, and not just because I'm a Jays fan and was watching this game live. What makes it crazy is not just the 3 errors and Bautista's homerun and bat flip, which I had for a long time as my computer background image. It was that the half inning before, the Rangers scored their third run on a play you rarely see. There was a runner on third. Odor if I recall correctly, and Russell Martin the catcher after a pitch and throwing it back to the pitcher, the ball hit the batter's bat and rolled away. Odor scored. Initially, the umpire said it was a dead ball but it wasn't and sent Odor back to third. But after a brief discussion, there was no reason for the ball to be dead and so the run stood. The batter had not interfered, Martin just threw back the ball to the pitcher as he had done a million times. Just this time, the ball hit the bat. Fans were not happy with the decision but it was the correct one. It would have been the craziest way to lose the series on such a play. But the Jays came back as you saw making this seventh inning even crazier.

You guys should've reacted to the full unedited video of this inning as it was even more wild due to the benches clearing twice (after the Jose Bautista HR and after the inning ended). On top of that fans went so nuts that beer bottles, popcorn, and other particles of trash were thrown on the field, which led to police having to take control of the crowd! This was one of the most electrifying innings in MLB history!

This is a great example of how fun baseball can be to watch, in contrast to the rep it sometimes has for being slow. And as you now know, being educated on the sport helps a LOT.

Toronto came from behind 14-9 in the 8th inning to beat Philadelphia 15-14. 3 days later, game 6 ended dramatically in a game that was picked as one of the 20 best games all-time.

American League Division Series. Since the introduction of 3 divisions per league and wild card teams in 1995 (and even until now even after some further format tweaks) the DS has been name of the League semifinals series (last 8 overall) and are and have been 5-game series. At this point, it included the Wild Card Game winner and the 3 division winners. This was from 2015 with the Blue Jays representing the AL East and the Rangers the AL West. The Rangers actually lead 2-0 in the series and the Blue Jays had to win 2 in a row to get to this point (that meant that only the road teams had won to this point) and, as you can see, the Blue Jays were trailing in this game as well. 5:20 - Oh it's not just you. The Rangers have been cursed even after they got good around 2010. 11:48 - I disagree slightly with Harold Reynolds here in that it's not a perfectly clean slide but it is hard and well within the rules. The rules around slides to break up double plays were actually made more strict AFTER this 2015 season due to a play in one of the NLDS between the Mets and Dodgers when one of the Dodgers made a real hard and dirty slide to take out the Mets shortstop during a double play attempt. This was not that and was fair game. 13:50 - No, there was no question that the runner was out at home. However, if the umpires determined the slide to be unlawful, they could have called the batter out and made it a double play. 16:33 - He does misjudge it slightly but errors are usually only scored when the player has or should have had it in his glove. 19:35 - I believe it WAS in the loudest crowds compilation. 23:00 - Craziest inning of all time for me is the bottom of the 10th inning of Game 6 of the 1986 World Series between the Mets and Red Sox; watching both the top and bottom of the inning from the original broadcast there as well would make a great reaction (this is also includes the worst individual error based on circumstance of all time; there are reasons it wasn't the most egregious but it was relatively routine and and in a high leverage situation and has become synonymous with committing a bad error). Other candidates include the bottom of 9th Inning of Game 6 of the 2011 World Series that you recently watched the David Freese video about, the 9th and 10th of Game 7 of the 2016 World Series that you also watched a video about, the top of the 8th of Game 4 of the 1996 World Series where the Yankees came back from down 3 in a game that if they lost would have put them down 3 games to 1 and this propelled them to a game and series win.

It’s a shame the video did not show the top of the inning. When the ball hit the bat for the go a head run, as a Jays fan I thought that was it. As the Jays are the only Canadian team they carry the eyes of the whole country.

THE 1-1 FROM DYSON BAUTISTA WITH A DRIVE DEEP LEFT FIELD NO DOUBT ABOUT IT *BLARRRRRRRRRRRGGGGH* Not even a Jays fan but this is ingrained in my brain

I was at this game. The big thing not in this video is the top of the 7th inning, where Shin Soo Choo up to bat, held his bat out to adjust his glove, and then the catcher Russell Martin hit the bat when he went to throw the ball back to the pitcher, it bounced off toward third base, and Rougned Odor who was the runner on third ran home to put the Rangers ahead 3-2. There was a lot of confusion because during this play the umpire called the ball dead. However he did so errenously, and the umpires had to determine if the the run scored or not. They decided the run scored, and Jays fans began throwing beer onto the field, and it was a while before they calmed down. The rest of the Rangers half of the inning passed without incident and then you just watched the bottom of the inning. Also Elvis Andrus the Shortstop, is the player with the 2 errors, he bobbled the first groundball hit towards him. He was the player covering 2nd base and I agree the throw from the 1st baseman Mitch Moreland was poor. He was also the player who covered 3rd Base and recieved the throw from the 3rd baseman Adrian Beltre. The confusion about the play at the plate was whether or not they were going to call a double play. If they decided the slide was against the rules, than the penalty for that play is that they assume the double play will be made and they call the batter out at 1st base on top of the runner being out at home. I was there but like the broadcast I also missed the bat flip the first time, I was watching the ball. I don't know if it was where I was sitting under the RF foul pole becasue that's not a great angle for it, or because I just wasn't listening, but it felt like no one reacted, partly in disbelief, but partly because it was so poetic. We thought we got fucked on the play before, and we just came back and dominated.

This bay flip was the early turning point for the way bat flips are viewed in MLB. It was an unwritten rule to show little or no emotion while playing or it will “show up the pitcher”. There was a lot of back and forth and public debate when he did this. Now we are much more tolerant of emotion. Playing with lots of emotion and celebration was introduced to MLB by many of the Latin players who were not “brought up” in that weird American stoic mindset. But also PLEASE GO WATCH THE TOP OF THIS INNING!!! It would have been super long to watch both, but the drama in the top half that you missed makes the bottom half EVEN MORE unbelievable. THEN you gotta go watch the brawl from 2016 between Odor and Bautista. Ripple effects lasting to this day.

The thing at the play at the plate was of the runner was determined to have committed interference, it was on the catchers intended throw, so there'd be another out. It's why they kept saying they would get a double play if it happened. Two outs rather than just the out at the plate.

You have to watch the top of the 7th inning which was absolute chaos in order to appreciate the bottom of the 7th and the bat flip

I was at work when this inning started, it got so crazy I had it on the radio on the drive home, rushed in to watch after the second error. This was insanity from start to finish, and they did not even cover the beer thrown on the field (twice) after two separate decisions. Encarnacion trying to calm the crowd leads to a bench clearing brawl. The summer game the next year when one of the rangers punks out Bautista on a play at second smacking him in the face. And then the Blue Jays beat them AGAIN the following playoff. Seriously these two teams were the encapsulation of the American League in the mid 2010s (and neither won a world series in that time).

I was there for this game, and this inning is generally viewed as the wildest inning ever in baseball. You guys only watched the bottom of the inning though, the reason why the crowd was so hyped, is that in the top of the inning, there was a very strange play that resulted in the Rangers scoring to go up 3-2. The vast majority of the crowd thought that the run shouldn't have counted, and after a 15 minute delay for the umpires to check the rules, the run was allowed. The crowd blew up, was throwing stuff on the field, it was absolute pandemonium, and that was in the top of the same inning you just watched! So the crowd felt like they were just screwed in a game where the loser is done for the year, it's late in the game, it's been a low scoring game, and we thought we were about to lose, and that's how we all felt when you checked in. This was the longest inning ever, and it was in a very important playoff game. Wild stuff.

I didn't go to the game because of the prices but I went to city hall in Toronto where they installed a tv projector showing the playoff games and it was called "The Birds Nest". Now, when I tell you how crazy the crowd watching went when Bautista hit that home run after everything that previously happened in that inning I'll never forget it.

That was an insane series. I remember the Jays were counted out early after going down to the Rangers. But you gotta feel for Cole Hamels, seeing his fielders make error after error in a game he set them up to win.

This has got to be among the biggest chokes in playoff baseball history. Not only were the Rangers up 2-0 in the series (meaning they had to lose 3 in a row to lose the series, which they did), but they also blew it on three straight routine plays. You won't find many games where a team makes three straight errors in an inning, let alone playoff games, let alone playoff clinching games. Completely beat themselves here, it doesn't get much worse as far as nightmare innings in baseball.

See if you can find the 1 hour version of the inning, you don't necessarily need to do another reaction but it's well worth the watch. This one is missing a rare play by Martin, a near riot by the crowd and two bench clearing incidents. I was at this game and it was the craziest thing I've ever experienced.

Ya'll need to react to MLB playoff highlights. There a few channels out there that do really good condensed playoff series highlights. They basically take extened highlights of the 3-7 games of a playoff series and manage to keep them all around 20 minutes. In my opinion, almost every single ALCS/NLCS starting from 2016/2017 have been absolutely insane and most are worth watching.

At this point in the ALDS both the Rangers and Astros were winning their respective series clinching games. The governor of Texas tweeted “Congrats to the @astros on advancing to the ALCS!. Hoping for an all-Texas #ALCS. Looking at you @Rangers.” The Astros blew a 4 run lead to Kansas City giving up 7 runs in the 8th force a game 5 which KC won. And the Rangers blew this lead on the Bautista HR.

it's really hard for me to call the throw from first to second an error becuase of how hard of a throw it became with martin so far down the baseline. martin made that throw _soooo_ much harder to complete by being where he was. good on him, probably the most impactful player in the inning imo. jose wouldn't have even had the chance to make that hit if not for russell.

The 1st out at home plate was a force play (no tag needed). The question was did the runners slide interfere with the catchers throw by sliding out of the base line. I believe the Mgr. for Texas knew it was a good play but wanted stall a bit because he was going to change pitchers anyway. Also you can lead a horse to water but you can't make him get the joke! ;-)

The entire inning took 53 minutes to play. An entire 9 inning game typically takes 150-180 minutes. I was at a team meeting for work at a hotel bar at the time, and our managers called the restaurant where we were supposed to have dinner to push back our reservation because NO ONE wanted to leave the bar while this inning was being played. - most infamous fielding error of all time was probably the 1986 World Series, game 6, ground ball that went through the first baseman’s legs. The NY Mets won that game to tie the series at 3-3, and then beat the Boston Red Sox in game 7 to win the Series. - on the play at home plate, the out was recorded by force-out (the catcher doesn’t need to tag the runner, they just need to step on home plate with the ball in hand) as the bases were loaded. The issue was whether or not the slide by the runner (which knocked the catcher off his feet) was within the rules. If it had been judged to be illegal, the batter would have been called out due to baserunner’s interference. It was a legal slide as the runner stayed in a direct path to slide into home plate…and did not leave that path to intentionally hit the catcher. Knocking the catcher down prevented him from trying to throw to another base to get a 2nd out

So guys for some context, the blue jays hadn’t make the playoffs in 22 years and had an insane run for about 2 months to get there. This is a best of 5 divisional round. In the top of the inning Texas scored because jays catcher Russell Martin had made a throw that hit off the bat off the batter and led to a run scored after a 15 minute delay. So after 22 years you can imagine how that would be to end their szn like that. That’s why the emotions were so high in this inning

It was crazy...when Texas was up to bat. That's why the dram was so high and over the top. I was around for the two World Series wins in Toronto in the 90's, but I've never seen anything like this. Haha. I heard you mention that you were going to watch the scenario from the following year, when Odor punches Bautista in the face...the one thing everyone talks about is the punch....but I want you to pay attention to how it had little to no effect on slowing Bautista down. He took that punch like a pro fighter and stayed on his feet to keep coming at him. No one ever talks about that. That cat is as tough as nails....
