British India Line & Other Visitors to Carlisle Station
10 August 2023
British India Line brought in the Dalesman today.
Also seen are a TransPennine Class 68 enroute from Glasgow to Manchester, a pair of stone blowers, a Network Rail test train and other regular passing trains.
Any observations are my own and not intended to show any authority and may show my misunderstanding.

At the moment I'm told there's only one 88 in service - all the freight operators are complaining bout the cost of electricity

nice video as always Les great mix "b i l " looked awesome as usual great capture . i see D Cargo are putting the last 5 active class 09s into storage , they say its due to increased charge's of lekky and replacing them with its class 66 diesel fleet which can run on bio synthetic fuel to make its decarbonisation strategy work ...yeah right so bring back the old diesels then lets go retro 😂.. superb video les thanks for sharing take care 👍👌a t b Syd

Great video Les, any idea why the coast train departed platform 1 and not 2 as usual. Unless it had come in from the northeast line.

So the test coach will be one of the first MK 1 to be built and not by BR after all. So nice not to have a crowded platform for the steam arrival, it always seems a guessing game which route they will set at Carlisle.

It seemed odd to have scheduled P4 but a driver and guard on P1 sort of gave the game away! Mentor is certainly an old carriage but I'm surprised that the 'experts' on stock claimed it was Swindon-built

@@LeslieGilpinRailways LOL Good detective work, the kind of thing I look for to know where a train will stop. With the stock I think the builders plate is sure to know more than the experts.

Apparently TransPennine wanted to check that Class 68s could run into Edinburgh and Glasgow! These people forget that others regularly run them and that the TransPennine 68s ran trains of their carriages on runs only a couple of years ago!

Always interesting that they are sure footed with empty stock but as soon a passenger sets a foot on board, the slip commences!

At least at Armathwaite I was in no danger of being wrong-platformed! However, I lacked the variety that you enjoyed at the Citadel - but made up for it with the beautiful surroundings. Win some, lose some.

Thats my problem at Carlisle - everything passes through the station but variety is thin on the ground on any f the outlying lines.

1Q18 passed me in Glasgow the other night. Traveling Fort William to Mossend I believe. It's been about the past few weeks.

Good to hear. The test trains do get about and if you keep an eye on them you start to realise their frequency

@@LeslieGilpinRailways I have a loco passing maryhill jus after 7pm tonight. Not sure wat the loco is though. Oban to Preston? All its says on app is that it's a HST. Is there a way to send you some footage?
