In this episode of The Debrief, former 22 SAS Trooper Big Phil Campion speaks to Tim Heale.
Influenced by Saturday morning pictures, Tim gained an interest in the armed forces and joined both the Sea & Army Cadets before enlisting as a boy soldier with the Royal Anglians. A punchy tour of Northern Ireland in 1977, and 3 years at the Army Handgliding Centre later, Tim put in his papers to leave. He went on to join 21 SAS for a brief period, before transferring to a FTRS role where he was mobilised with the Royal Signals. Securing a role in the newly formed 15 Psychological Operations (PSYOPS) Unit, Tim became a purveyor of Propaganda, Lies & Deception....
Tim is now an established podcaster, hosting weekly livestreams & guest interviews discussing a varied range of topics, including Veterans Mental Health, as he finished his career as a Unit Welfare Officer.

Big Phil, I’ve got to tell you, what a fantastic set of podcasts! For some reason the Mandy Hickson podcast appeared in my playlist - I thought I’d give it a try and now I’m hooked - Mandy Hickson is an amazing lady. The next one I watched was Mark Smith - fascinating stuff. I knew about the VC Chinese guns - they’re infront of the RA Officers Mess at Larkhill at the moment. I’ve just watched this one with Tim. I’m into amateur radio and loved the stuff about the “Radio in a Box”. Like you, I can’t wait to hear more about the “Afghan Archers” and I have now subscribed to Tims podcast as well as your own. I served 22 years with the RA, 1975 - 1997, lots of NI tours, some on COP, an eight year drinking tour in Germany and the rest in the UK. I did however do an interesting loan service tour in Oman for nearly three years, based in Izki and Salalah, Whilst there, I read everything I could about the Jebel Akhdar and Dhofar wars and visited most of the campaign sites including Mirbat Fort, which then was in pretty much the same state as it had been left after the SAS action in 1972. Keep up the great work Phil - I’m going to continue working through this rich seam of amazing content that I’ve stumbled across. 👍👍👍👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏

I was in NI in 1977 at the same time and the RPG rocket attack came the week after on regiment had been doing the same duty, in our case the IRA fired the RPG to close to the escort pig, the warhead punched straight threw both sides of the pig, luckily no one got hurt but the press picked up and reported that they'd fired the rocket to close and the warhead never had time to arm itself (70 metres I believe) the IRA picked up on this and the following week the incident he mentioned happened.

So tim was out before 77th brigade & 13th signals were deployed against their own, the bristish public during the c1984 scamdemic. That's the only time i've found myself disillusioned with our armed services. I was shocked & disappointed at how willing they were to act against their own since i've always held our armed services in the very highest regard. Until then!

Big Phil. The current state of affairs is it fair to say prepare and tool up so you have the basics? The country is collapsing and I would love to hear if you were trained for a scenario where everyone has apparently been brainwashed. If so get us lot out! Help! I joined army cadets at 13 shortly after my birthday and I wish I had perused my career in the armed forces.
