We're back to September 1986 with this upload, a time when most traction was still in BR blue. We see mostly freight action at Bescot Yard where the station sits very conveniently in the middle of the hugh freight complex that used to be there. We see freight and light engine moves with loco's 20 (including one single headed), 31, 47, 58 & 86 along with a couple of 312's on the Birmingham New-Walsall service including 312 204 in it's yellow livery. The 58 along with a pair of class 20s are in the Railfreight Red Strip livery. All in all some great traction from the days Bescot was a busy place and always worth a visit. If you liked the video please subscribe to my channel, there are lots more transport & quirky vids to upload!

Cracking video as always Mr Buakhao, how ever this must be later than 1986, as the wagons hauled by the single 20 at around 4m 26s, are in Dutch livery and to my recollection, this livery wasn't introduced until 1988.. :)

No, this was definatly filmed in September 1986. I thought i may have mis-typed the date but my record book confims it as 10 September 1986. The next time i went out to film railways wasn't until April 1987.....When i transfered the film from VHS tape to DVD it was all copied over in order.....

It was then, died off a bit in the 90s after Railfreight Distribution stopped the Speedlink service and is now pretty much dead there.....

Fantastic memories of Bescot. Great video mate. Those Sheerness steel wagons don't look like that now. Probably the only thing in this video still extant. Bonus 86249 County of Merseyside which ended its days on Anglia region. Ha that 31 came very close to those 20s and the 08 too!

Looking at the place today it's hard to imagine how busy it was....86 249 wasn't an early allocation to Anglia but was drafted in later.....

Smelly diesels 🙂 A 20 running hood end first was a sight worth recording. That yellow/blue livery on the 312 looked very like Nederlandse Spoorwegen : the original 'Dutch' livery I suppose

Yes, the 20 bonnet first was quite rare, they mostly worked in pairs in England although it was more common in Scotland. The 312 was the only one i saw in that colour scheme, probably an experiment to see how it looked?......

Variety went out the window years ago. Today's railway is a pitiful contrast with liner trains forced to muscle up against lorries. I see it every day at Masbrough South.

Yes, there was a whole lot more variety all round. Stock was worked for around 30 to 40 years before replacement whereas today things can be withdrawn in a very short space of time, especially buses in London!

Great video- loved the nose first chopper powering through with the turbots- the collection of oil lamps on the solebar is a great touch! Shame you didn’t catch a couple of the last rats as they were still regulars in the area (just!) I remember cabbing 25035 in the sidings on the usual Saturday walk round....also have you any footage of the awesome WMPTE Fleetlines & early metros around at the time- they were superb! I’m now off for a walk round the Bull Ring/ Flea Market before listening to BRMB to see how the Blues did....then back to watch Gladiators on the telly!! Happy times indeed:-))

Thank you, i'm pleased you like the vid. I never saw any 25s moving when i was there, just those stabled at the back of the yard, withdrawn perhaps?....Pretty much only did London buses in those days so no Birmingham buses sadly. Now, i wish i had filmed a whole lot more, but too late now......

Overgrown rusty sidings! Network Rail wanted to build a sleeper making plant around here somewhere but the neighbour's complained and it was stopped. With the invasion that takes place daily i imagine blocks and blocks of flats will appear over time......and then complain they can hear trains passing and by and can you stop running them........
