We're back to July 1993 now and are at Warrington Bank Quay. Back then it was still a hotspot for freight activity (unlike today sadly) and we see a good variety of traction--31, 37, 47, 90, HST & DMU on freight and light engine moves including a bubble car route learning DMU and a pair of 90s on a liner train. If you liked the video please subscribe to my channel, there are lots more transport & quirky vids to upload!

For the full effect I recommend opening a box of Persil and inhaling deeply whilst watching this video..... ....also love the driver of 37803 who is pretending to diligently watch his train over the point work whereas in reality he just wants to listen to the thrash and get on the video!!!

Not for much longer sadly, Persil manufacture is being shifted abroad, apparently not enough people buy soap powder anymore. Its all tabs pods an liquids. End of another era

@@Mitch-Hendren Unbelievable!!! Although after a 14 hour spotting marathon on Bank Quay I often ended up with a sore throat and headache!!! Upon return home my wife used to wonder where I’d been all day as I smelt of roses instead of class 37 clag!!!

Yes, always a soapy aroma there! Perhaps the driver is another Chris Guntripp and likes a bit of English Electric thrash!

Another great video. My favourite era with sectorisation and all the liveries that came with it.

The closing years of variety with plenty of Dutch liveried locos. Today's railway looks paltry by comparison but still odd surprises appear time to time.

I think some of the best Class 37 sound effects I've heard from 37803 there. Lots of Class 31s still about too.

Bank Quay was a freight hot-spot back then, always something happening either on freight or the Inter-City workings.......I spent an hour there in Jan 20 and only saw one freight working!

There are still some things the station has over other stations today. The massive industrial district next to the station is still nice to look at and the station still has it's sidings which isn't very common nowadays. You do get to see the biomass trains at speed and the bin trains are pretty cool too, along with the Class 60 workings from Saint Helens and the ones to Dallam Freight Depot. Those are probably the best workings there today but it sure has taken a decline.

Nowhere near as busy as once was.... I've seen pairs of Inter-City liveried 87s arrive from Scotland on steel trains, the electrics coming off for a diesel to take over. That was in 1988, i assume they were off the Sleeper trains and worked a fill in move to Warrington & back, before working the Sleepers south that night......

@@SoiBuakhaoRoutemasterbus Yeah there used to be a lot more going on. Every hour you used to have several freight trains or light engines/convoys either pulling up or rushing through and in between those you had the constant Sprinters/Pacers and loco hauled Intercity trains and loco-hauled mail trains and 325's (when they still had that extravagant yellow lining, now they just look bland without it.)

That was the start, with Railtrack becoming a separate company. It took until 1997 for the last train to be operated by BR (and RfD service) and until 2013 (i think) for the BR Board to be abolished. Even though they finished operating trains in 97, it needed an act of Parliament to abolish it!
