British Rail Scotrail-Inverness 37s & HST, 1994

Another Scotrail Highlands upload now from late summer 1994. We see the morning operations at Inverness starting with the King's Cross HST departing before the ECS for the class 37 worked loco hauled service to Edinburgh. Next the Sleeper from Euston arrives. The 08 shunters comes out to shunt the 4 Motorail vans off before removing the sleeping cars, finishing off with the 37's+generator van shunting out of the platform. There is something almost majestic watching an IC125 HST pull away from the station quite unlike later trains.

first time i have seen a mk3 buffet in the consist of the sleeper, only ever seen mk2 first buffet or no mk2, i did not see much of the 1990s, off working or in reserve army, still kicking myself for not getting spotting during that time.

I will have to check some other vid of this working and see what that stock was, it may be back then a MkIII was used as normal?......

Blimey 2x 37s on load 15 into Inverness on the Royal Highlander sleeper. Those really were the days.

Good to see a class 26 was still there must have been living on borrowed time in 1994.

I think it may well have already been withdrawn and dumped there.

most or all class 26 were withdrawn after 1993, only the green pair survived a year or two longer and one or two others in warm storage incase one or both green pair went bang.

Could well be that the Inverness service was particularly busy during the summer and an extra coach was added to some rakes for this service.

Yes, i need another trip to Scotland to chase those working there. Plus the Glasgow Subway before the new trains arrive on that system.

The new Scotrail Classic InterCity service - despite being ageing stock, I have to admit I like what they've done. Been an HST fan ever since stepping aboard a power car in 1977 at an Haymarket Depot open day.

@@saintuk70 I've liked them since i saw one at Swindon in the summer of 1976. Squadron service started in that October and my Dad & I took a trip from Padd to Bristol. Wow! Lovely trains....miss that Valanta scream though.....But i have a trip to Scotland pencilled in soon!

Plenty of 43s at Inverness now, although l have yet to travel on a refurbished set with the new plug doors. Great video, life before Morrisons! You had a much better view of the trains from that location than you do now!

What did the Motorail vans contain, was it cars? I thought that Motorail carried customer vehicles on flat-bed trucks with passengers in normal part of train.Those vans don't look big enough to carry cars.Thanks in advance for any explanation... Also, nice video - thnks for these :)

Thank you. They are indeed carrying passengers cars, they are in the sleeping cars. The trains you describe finished in the 90s I believe or loss late 80s.

motorail vans did have cars in them, usually 4 per van.
