In a wonderful case irony, the Justin Timberlake/Janet Jackson Superbowl Halftime show directly led to the creation of KZfaq. After the event, the two guys that founded the site (pre purchase by Google) went looking for footage of the incident in question. There were no replays on TV (obviously) and they couldn't find it on the internet, so they came up with the idea of a site that users could upload video clips to so that they could be shared. And thus, KZfaq was born...

The reason the NFL ratings were going down was cuz before Micheal Jackson the halftime shows were just marching bands or cheerleaders performing so people didn't really care for the HT show. So yeah MJ was the first ever musician to perform at the halftime show

Prince, singing Purple Rain, in a literal Purple Rain(because of lighting) is hands down the best ever!... Too many things needed to align! Open air stadium, Prince being the performer, and it raining!... Followed by a 20 foot silhouette of a 5' 2" man...literally Dave become8ng Goliath(Giant of music)... It was spiritual!!

the E Street Band is the band Bruce plays with. His wife Patti plays with him, as well as Steven Van Zandt, who also starred in the Sopranos. Originally it also had Clarence Clemons, an amazing saxophonist and one of Bruce's best friends. They've got a big, classic Amercan heartland rock sound. I saw them in concert this year and it was exhilarating. Best rock band I've ever seen. Bruce did do a solo album Nebraska, which is just him and his guitar and is a lot darker than his sweeping, rock sound he has with the band.

The Prince half-time performance consistently clocks in as the greatest ever.

E Street Band have been with Springsteen since the early 70's. Their drummer Max Weinberg did double duty as the leader of Conan Obriens band on his tv show.

I will forever be grateful for U2's performance after 9/11. I wouldn't call it a healing moment, but rather a moment of shared burden. We had such a weight on the nations soul, for we didn't know what we were feeling. Shock, anger, hate, vengeance and sorrow. Their show helped our out of control feelings become something crystalized we could focus on, and by doing so, help to tame it. I still feel choked up over that moment. I wish I could tell them one day- thank you!

It wasn't the Super Bowl itself that was struggling to get views, other networks were starting to do programming timed up specifically to start during the halftime show and last to the beginning of the 3rd quarter. What happened is, the networks had a huge migration over to these other shows during the boring-and-dry halftime recap program that was aired- famously FOX network did a live show that drew something like 5 million viewers away from the SB Halftime Report.

Coming from someone that has become a huge Prince fan because I came across his Super Bowl performance. I don’t understand anyone that could say he didn’t have the best one, he played and sang incredible live 💜

Nothing, and I mean *nothing* will EVER top Prince's halftime show. As a Colts fan, being able to have *that* show happen and the Colts to win the Superbowl is a day I will never forget. God we lost him way, way too soon. He was such a monumental, mindblowing talent.. EDIT: As if proof of his talent, he's #1 over the person many believe to be the single greatest performer in modern music history, MJ. And if there was *anyone* *anywhere* that could keep up with MJ in musical talent it was Prince. Both were astoundingly good singers, songwriters. MJ was a *savant* as a dancer and choreographer, but Prince could quite *literally* play ANY instrument you put in front of him. Lost both way, way too soon.

Fun walk down memory lane...the NUMER "1" merits it's standing: PRINCE!!! And finishing with "Purple Rain" IN the rain..it was epic and the voices filled the venue singing right alone with him in the end...R.I.P. Prince!

Prince is my favorite It rained during purple rain & if you know the meaning of that song it’s spiritual. The song is about bathing your soul in purity with god & being with the one you love on the right side at the end of world. MJ lip sync & used pops & flare but I love MJ too. The N'Sync and Aerosmith one definitely gets some credit for degree of difficulty in having to work with each other. The Timberlake/Janet thing was 100% preplanned but I'm pretty sure only the two of them knew. "Wardrobe malfunction" was the official excuse but clothing doesn't fail in that exact manner unless it's specifically made to.

I'm amazed Tom Petty's show didn't make the list. I have to have Prince, Tom Petty, and the Hip Hop show from a couple years ago somewhere in the top 5 for it to be respectable. I remember that Michael Jackson halftime show. Most people took the halftime show as a time to get more food, or play backyard football before that show. It was mostly marching bands with the occasional, poorly fit, pop star. Michael Jackson's halftime show made it an EVENT.

There was PRINCE and everybody else. The best! He was a complete, all-around performer. Beyoncé was teeny-bopper, bubblegum stuff. Madonna was cool! Bruce Springsteen famously sang the song "Born In The USA".

Bruno, like Prince, can play many instruments. Bruno has been on American TV since he was 3 or 5. From Arsenio Hall to Letterman (I think). Dude is just gifted. How sick is America, my country, that he couldn't get a record deal unless he sung in Spanish. His last name is Garcia. He fought & finally found the right record co who believed in him. I don't believe Bruno even speaks Spanish, His ancestry is Hawaiian & Filipino from what I recall.

After the Janet incident we got a steady supply of really old performers the next few years, including the Rolling Stones and Springsteen. Not that they aren't great performers but they were better performers 20 years before they appeared at the super bowl. I think the idea was to get people old enough that nobody would want to look even if they did take off clothes.
