Damo never fails to shock me with the way he is able to accurately recall and associate seemingly disparate facts and events across the entire American sports landscape. A landscape that was literally alien to him last year. With a memory like a steel trap you could have had a great career as a master criminal or an accountant. lol... Awesome content gentlemen. You both bring strong character and perspectives to the channel that are unique and individual and a great complement to each other. **I especially love the Patreon exclusives! The tuck rule was in place from 1999 to 2013. It basically said when the QB is holding the ball to pass, any forward movement of his arm is considered starting a forward pass, even if he was merely tring to tuck it as opposed to passing it. If he lost the ball it's not a fumble unless he completed tucking it and then dropped it. In 2013 it changed by a 29-1 vote. The new rule says: "If the player loses possession of the ball during an attempt to bring it back toward his body, or if the player loses possession after he has tucked the ball into his body, it is a fumble."

Gotta watch Andrew Luck. After Peyton had surgery and they didn't know if he'd be able to throw again the colts went 2-14 and drafted Luck. He made them a playoff team basically every season he played. They ruined his career by providing no help and a terrible offensive line and caused a heartbreaking retirement of a player that would almost certainly have made the HoF. This started the qb carousel in Indy that has led to Anthony Richardson.

Tim Tebow was drafted by the Broncos. The everyone knew his greatness wouldn’t translate into the NFL. But the Broncos took him in the first round. He only played like 4 mediocre season and then he played in AAA for the Mets and was pretty good. But wasn’t major league material. He just officially retired from baseball like 2 or 3 years go

The tuck rule was the rule that stated if you started a forward passing motion and brought the ball back to your body it wouldn't count as a fumble if the ball was knocked out since the forward motion of a pass was technically started. That rule was abused a lot, yes.

The turnaround that you saw in the Chiefs is quintessential Andy Reid, who knew the team needed a competent quarterback (thus the trade for Alex Smith) and otherwise worked with what he had. The team would be a little unrecognizable for you because they very much had a dink and dunk offense those early years, and in 2013 in particular leaned on running back Jamaal Charles who you saw was third in the league in rushing but was also the team’s leading receiver. They paired that with a really strong defense Andy inherited from that 2-14 team, so all he needed to do was get the offense turned around. This is why it would be good to find you a video on Andy Reid. He’s a heck of a coach, and is the only head coach who’s the winningest coach in two different teams’ history (Eagles and Chiefs). Since he took over the Chiefs after that 2-14 season, the team has only missed the playoffs once. Once Andy got his hands on Mahomes, they became the team you’re watching today. Oh, and I should also mention that in that 2013 season, the Chiefs had some rookie backup tight end named Kelce get injured in the preseason and miss the entire year. I wonder whatever happened to him.

“The Brady Rule” is where you can’t hit QBs below the knee when they are standing in the pocket to pass. The “Tuck” Rule was when the QB fumbled when they were tucking the ball it was ruled an incomplete pass.

Tim Tebow was drafted in by Denver Broncos in 2010 in 1st Rd. Tebow wasn't very good although they managed to take the broncos to playoffs and upset the Steelers in 2011. He was then traded to the Jets because the Broncos signed Payton Manning was a free agent. Manning was a free agent because of he missed the 2011 season due to 2 neck surgeries and appeared he lost arm strength so the colts cutting him. That forced the Colts to draft Andrew Luck in 2012 draft

And in that playoff year, his rookie year, it seemed like the Broncos would win in the most contrived, improbable ways to the point where people were actually believing that Tebow was receiving supernatural help from the Most High (for context: part of the aura of Tim Tebow was that he is the son of missionaries, very demonstrative in his religiosity, and socially Conservative Christian Americans couldn't imagine a more perfect exemplar)

Percy Harvin was probably one of the most explosive players in nfl and college history he was teammates with Tebow actually. Tebow was drafted in the first round in 2010 by the Broncos. Though he had some exciting moments, and led them to a playoff victory, he was very inaccurate throwing the ball and never developed as a passer. This led to the Broncos signing Peyton Manning and trading Tebow to the Jets. His accuracy issues always lingered and he was let go by the Jets after one season. He tried to make it with the Patriots and Eagles then eventually left the game to broadcast like they mentioned. About a year after that he announced that he wanted to pursue a career as a baseball player and ended up playing in the New York Mets minor league system from 2016-2019. He never was promoted to the New York Mets. He did get all the way up to their AAA team in 2019, but never got a promotion to MLB. Whether you like the guy or not, it is a fascinating story.

you guys are learning about football during our (Kansas City Chiefs) golden era. Before Andy Reid took over we were good at best with 1st round playoff losses and terrible at worst but year to year we were normally mediocre with a playoff trip once every 3 to 4 years. Andy Reid turned us into contenders that made the playoffs all but 1 year with him as head coach and Mahomes pushed us from making the playoffs each year to being superbowl favorites each year. Before 2015 we hadnt won a playoff game since 94, and before that it wasnt since like the 70s and we went 50 years between superbowl wins

Sean Payton did not offer bounties to his players, but his defensive coordinator Gregg Williams intimated that he might have done so. Tim Tebow was drafted by the Broncos in 2010. By this time, he had already been ditched for Peyton Manning, then failed in New York (Jets). Patriots kicked the tires on him for... some reason.

note for you guys: manager =/= head coach (usually) the team's General Manager (GM) handles the business side of things, which in football also includes player recruitment and trading, hence roster composition the Head Coach, on the other hand, organizes the players, decides on their strategy/tactics, and makes the actual decisions in-game (like whether to go for a 4th down or punt/kick FG, whether to go for a 2pt conversion, and other top-layer choices in-game - usually they are deputizing the calling of the individual plays to the offensive or defensive coordinators or even to the QB, unless they are particularly great at play design and choice and keep the turn-by-turn control for that reason) so Sean Payton is the head coach of the Broncos right now (and saints in the time of the video you watched), but not their GM - he handles the gameplay decision making, but not things like player acquisition some particularly successful coaches in history have convinced their team's ownership to allow them to also serve as GM and make decisions on the logistical and player-roster-composition front as well, for instance Belichick - they reason that they can better handle strategy if they can choose the players they will be coaching - but this has also gone disastrously in the past, so it is not common

Sad that it was the last season for Candlestick Park. There were a lot of great games there and it was in San Francisco instead of Santa Clara, which is about a 45 minute drive south, in Silicon Valley. It was also the home of the San Francisco Giants baseball team until the current, very nice ballpark was built near downtown San Francisco, on the bay. Candlestick sucked as a baseball stadium. It got too windy which would mess with the ball and make it hard to hit home runs. Willie Mays may have had the home run record if he didn't have to play there. It was a great NFL stadium though. Joe Montana and Steve Young and some earlier 49er teams, and later ones, had a lot of great games there.

Tebow has a wild year in Denver. He looked terrible in the NFL, his stats were bad, but they kept winning games miraculously thanks to defense and occasions big plays on offense. As a Ravens fan, the 2013 season was pretty miserable, lol. The defending champ hosts the first game of the year traditionally, but their was a scheduling issue with the Baltimore Orioles (the two stadiums are adjacent) and they went to Denver for the first game instead and Manning absolutely destroyed them. Set the tone, pretty big Super Bowl hangover, and first year with Harbaugh and Flacco that they didn't make the playoffs. The 2012 QB draft they mentioned in this video was incredible, but the top two guys were ruined by injury unfortunately. RG3 looked like one of the best QBs in the league as a rooke, but never was the same after the knee injury and would be benched for Kirk Cousins within a few years. Andrew Luck was incredible, but only played six seasons due to various injuries.

Tebow actually was not drafted by the patriots, but by the Broncos in 2010 - he ended up traded to the patriots by the time mentioned in the video, and was released Tebow was incredible in college, but at the time NFL scouts were convinced he might not work out in the NFL due to his weaknesses and strange playstyle, not to mention that due to his public religiosity he had an enormous amount of public attention on him in all directions that many teams wanted no part of - the Broncos took a chance with him, and he was a bit of a roller coaster, winning a playoff game with an astounding huge throw on the first play of overtime after getting them there with a few incredibly clutch final regular season games, but in general he was overall so inconsistent and bad at playing like a normal quarterback in easy situations that they decided to get rid of him anyway - after all, he was singlehandledly losing them more games than he was singlehandedly clutching out (and one could argue he only had to play so clutch because his mistakes put them in tenuous circumstances)

I think the Brady Rule theyre referring to is the rule where now you cannot intentionally try to hit a QB in the legs when you go for a sack or else it's a Roughing The Passer penalty because in Week 1 of I think the 2008 season, he was hit in the leg by a blitzing defender which tore his ACL and ended his season

2:34 - Notice that coach running up the sidelines on the pick-6? It was then 49ers head coach Jim Harbaugh. The same Jim Harbaugh that is now the head coach at Michigan. 7:51 - It was actually that 2012 season that caused the Chiefs to go out and hire Andy Reid and bring in Alex Smith to start the turnaround, and then of course all the good drafting leading up to and after Patrick completed it. 13:30 - He wasn't drafted by the Patriots (although, you are correct that it was a terrible place for him to be). He was drafted by then-former and future Patriots offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels while he was in Denver. They selected the late Demaryius Thomas with their first round pick in 2010 and then traded back into the first round to get Tebow. Many at the time, including most Tebow fans said that was a reach. Tebow was a unique athlete and an unparalleled leader and winner but his throwing mechanics were so clunky that he was always going to be hard to develop as an NFL QB, especially back then. I think he would have fared a little bit better today with how QBs are being used more as runners when they can handle it but he still would have needed a lot of development in the throwing category and he never really got that during his time. He sputtered out of the gate during his first year in Denver but turned it on in the second half of the 2011 season leading miraculous comebacks despite poor performances and even upsetting the Steelers in the Wild Card Round that year (good Secret Base Rewinder on this one). He was never able to repeat that 2011 success though and bounced around to a few different teams over the next few years and was out of the league after the 2015 season. He even tried his hand at minor league baseball making it moderately far in the Mets system although never getting a real sniff at a chance at the majors. When he retired from baseball, he gave a football comeback one last try when his Florida head coach Urban Meyer invited him to Jaguars training camp in 2021 as a potential tight end. Suffice it to say, like the rest of Meyer's Jaguars tenure, it did not go well. I always felt that no one ever unlocked Tebow's full potential, although I'm not delusional enough to think that potential was super high but it was there and it always was fun to watch while he, or the teams that he was on, were good. 15:03 - Trent Richardson's NFL career flamed out quickly but you all would have liked him. He and Evan Ingram were some strong, old-school style running backs who came out of Alabama and paved the way for guys like Derrick Henry and Najee Harris.

Tim Tebow didn’t last very long in the NFL. He just wasn’t consistent enough in the passing game. While he did make the occasional big throw, most notably against the Steelers in OT, he just couldn’t make enough passing plays week in week out to keep his job. Defences would crowd the line and dare him to throw it over their heads.

The "tuck rule" is as so. If the QBs arm is going forward and the ball comes out it is an incomplete pass. That was the rule up to the Raiders and Patriots game called the "Snow Bowl." In essence Tom Brady dropped back to pass and cocked his arm to throw. He begins to bring the ball back down with a grip on the ball. At that time Brady is hit with a great blindside blitz by Rod Woodson (hall of famer) and the ball comes out for a fumble, recovered by the Raiders. On replay they went by the letter of the rule book which was arm moving forward=incomplete pass. I'm a Pats fan. Lived here my whole life. I am hear to say the Raiders got screwed by semantics. So anyway they changed that rule to make sure that didn't happen again. Now it is if the QB has control while moving his arm forward.

I think you might need to react to at least the first quarter of this week's college game between UT and OU (a major rivalry with 100 years of history). The quarter lasted a full hour with a lot of really interesting play calls, like the coaches were in a mental war. The announcers kept using the word "wild" and saying it was one of the most interesting starts to a game they'd seen.

Idk how long you guys have been watching American football. But if you’ve recently just found it. Boy did you miss some of the all time greats to ever do it. But man are you just in time cause we have some TALENTS! It’s kinda the same for me I’m just barley getting into Europe football (soccer) for me. Man I missed out on some greats just now starting to really watch people like Messi Ronaldo Ronaldinho early Neymar Rooney etc etc.

I see a lot of folks commenting on the Tebow part of this, but a couple more bits of added Context for this video. EJ Manuel (first QB drafted in 2013) - pretty much flamed out after 4 or 5 years in the league, was never the franchise QB the bills wanted him to be. Later became a broadcaster for the ACC network (he went to Florida State which is part of the ACC). Geno Smith (second round QB taken by the Jets)- was looking like his career would be the same as EJ Manuel’s. Didn’t do well with the jets and then bounced around as a backup, until before the 2022 season when Seattle traded Russell Wilson and Geno (Wilson’s backup the previous couple years) won the starting QB job. He basically has resurrected his career and got a nice contract from the Seahawks. Trent Richardson trade - Richardson was an Alabama running back drafted 3rd overall by the browns in 2012 (it’s a rarity for a running back to be drafted that high these days). He had a solid rookie season, but not spectacular. He was traded to the Colts for a first round pick early the next season and it started to become apparent that even though he was a powerful runner, he had no vision as a ball carrier, he would often pass up open gaps to run through and would just wind up running into a wall of defenders. He wound up out of the league just a few years later, playing in the Canadian football league and the short lived AAF.

Sorry one more note, the first rounder that the Browns got from the colts for Trent Richardson was then used the next year to trade up and draft Johnny Manziel. So the browns essentially traded one draft bust for another.

The tuck rule basically at the discretion of the refs if it looks like the QB was going for a throw but then pump faked it and the ball slipped out it would be ruled an incomplete and not a fumble. They gave Brady that ruling during a snow game where it looked like Brady went to throw but was bringing the ball back down and it was fumbled and ruled an incomplete pass. They have now gotten rid of the rule altogether so no matter what if your arm is not in a throwing motion forward and ball comes out then it’s a fumble

IDK if there is a good video out there on him, but I'd highly recommend you two watch one on Josh Gordon if you can find one. Dude is an all-time "what-if" player, incredible talent but couldn't stay out of his own way long enough and get past drug issues. He was a perfect fit for the Browns lol.

This took me back. I'm not an Eagles fan (Browns, more's the pity) but I thought they'd be great when they replaced Andy Reid with Chip Kelly. Side note: The Browns had absolutely no interest in hiring Andy Reid, which was obviously a 5,000 IQ move that let Cleveland go from strength to strength ever since....

It wasn’t Sean Payton offering the bounties it was his defensive coordinator that was doing so, and had done so in the past with different teams. Bounties unfortunately had existed before this for decades but it was especially egregious and nuanced with the Saints. Sean Payton was liable as he was the head man in charge and did not stop the practice of bounties.

The "Brady Rule" and the "Tuck Rule" are actually two completely different rules, both of which stirred controversy and were perceived as having benefited Tom Brady more than anyone else. Tuck Rule: If a QB starts a passing motion, the act of pulling the ball down into a tuck will be considered a continuation of the passing motion. If a defender knocks the ball out, it's an incomplete pass, not a fumble. Brady Rule: Defenders are prohibited from hitting a QB standing in the pocket at the knees or below. The Tuck Rule was eventually changed due to fan outrage at situations like the one in the Pats-Raiders playoff game that made it famous. The Brady Rule has become a permanent part of the NFL's efforts to reduce QBs injuries. Many fans complain about safety measures like this ruining the traditional spirit of the game, but most acknowledge that modern QBs are simply too valuable not to be protected.

Damn, did they even mention And Reid's son died of an overdose (then he was fired) and also that a player for the Chiefs, Jovan Belcher, murdered his girlfriend and then killed himself in front of the GM and head coach at the time (Reid of course coming in after those two were fired). I know neither on the field, but still crazy.

Riley Cooper, the wide receiver who made racist comments, Tim Tebow, and Aaron Hernandez were all teammates at the University of Florida. I was so excited when Netflix announced that they were doing "Swamp Kings." Finally, as fans we've been asking for this kind of a documentary for years. That team and the 1980s University of Miami Hurricanes were probably among the baddest boys of all time. Netflix gave us such neutered story that I ended up stopping watching in disgust.

You could say the new age tuck rule is when Target started making special boys bathing suits with a way for them to "tuck" their parts, to appear more like little girls. In America this led to the massive boycott of Target to where they lost $9 Billion in 1 month
