On Armistice day I always think about the Grandad I never knew as he gave his life for our freedom in 1944. My Father never knew him as he was a baby at the time. But thanks to the internet and some research I managed to find some videos with my Grandad in, this being one of them. My Father told me that Sergeant R F Phillips of 3rd Battalion Coldstream Guards was the main drummer boy in the 1932 Trooping the Colour. This was King George’s Official Birthday. We also knew that Grandad was short at 5’6 (lowest entrance height to Guards) and most guardsman are over 6 foot. We have a photo of Grandad marching by Big Ben and his mates/bandsmen around him are all taller which backs up our following theory. At 1.44 min in this video you see the shortest drummer boy on the right side of the video. The main drummer boy would of been on the right side to present the king. It is the right side as you can see the Artillery monument on the left in the back ground of Horse Guards. My Dad and myself believe that this short bandsman is him. We could be wrong. It is also his bands music so the snare drum you hear is played by him (and a few others). We will remember them.

The British are and always were the best in parades ever. What a pity we can not see the wholw length of it.

Other than the regimental marches, the music seemed to be far more lively. Of course, the drill is exceptional - far better than now. They led a very hard & disciplined life.
