i agree 100%, if u eat like this on a weekly average, your screwed. Americans HAVE to make good diet decisions because we have so many grave makers in our markets. we don't need drugs to kill us, (although we have them) we also have all the sugary sodas, to horrible foods, sugar everywhere and where there isn't sugar, there's aspartame, which is also horrible,( used for glue with 2x thick windshield glass) We know we have tasty options, its learning how to keep your sugar in take down and eat a healthy meal that becomes the issue here for 76% of people... My idea meal is steak or chicken grilled, with beans/veggies, and a piece of bread, call it a day.

Chicken and waffles started in Harlem, NYC when late-night jazz club musicians would go to 24-hour diners after work for dinner right when the diners were starting to serve breakfast for early shift workers. The result was to combine dinner and breakfast into chicken and waffles.

My grandfather was born in Sheffield, every Sunday we would have Sunday dinner of roast beef and Yorkshire pudding. Since I grew up with that as a staple of the menu, when I told people about it, their reaction was "Why is that called pudding?" , but it was what I knew.

@thebritstry This dish was created to serve French Quarter musicians, nightclub, and restaurant workers. Many of those places don't close until 4am. Now it's available all over the south, but it originated in New Orleans

Not sure if you're still in Louisiana but Dooky Chase resturant is full of history & flavor. The legendary Leah Chase has gone on to glory but her grandson is keeping her spirit alive with every dish. You may have to get a reservation but it's worth it

my first trip to New Orleans I had to go there, close to a dozen visits later I still haven't tried all the places I want lol. My wife tends to want to stick to tourist areas while I'm more daring.

I love to add a bit if hot sauce to my fried chicken, either Texas Pete, or the Louisiana style hot sauce. Has to be a vinegar hot sauce. Have fun on your tour. Make sure to get the beignets at café du Monde.

The Amish have been making chicken and waffles for almost 400 years in the PA Dutch country. The chicken isn't fried, but cooked and shredded. It then goes on top of the waffles with a chicken based gravy poured on top. I grew up with that version, but enjoy both. Love your channel. Prost !

If you ever get a chance to head back to New Orleans, I would recommend going in April. At that time of year it's not too hot(New Orleans gets really hot in Summer due to humidity), it's before hurricane season and they have Jazz Fest and French Quarter Fest, which are fun festivals.

I have been traveling back and forth across America as much as i can for many years now, and one of the best parts is trying local foods, some times a small town may have 2 or more types of the same dish that are vastly different yet all amazing. my being from the southern states originally makes me simi bias in my opinion. but the south has the best most unhealthy foods you'll find anywhere. its just sad the small family owned mom and pop places are becoming harder to find, with recipes built over many generations of one family making the same dish a specialty. find them, support them and enjoy them. 1love

If you like pizza. it would be fun to see your reactions to NY style. Chicago Deep Dish Pizza, Detroit Style pan pizza. America is so diverse in its food cultures it really is a blend of so many places combined into their own version of some amazing food dishes.

As someone whose from Louisiana I know our food just hits differently. Anytime I go out of the state (unless it's BBQ) I nearly always left feeling underwhelmed by the food in the region. Especially when they try and make cajun or creole foods.

@@thebritstry North Carolina, South Carolina, or Tennessee for BBQ pulled pork and ribs..... Texas for BBQ beef -- brisket, beef ribs and burnt ends. And you should have it with mac and cheese, sweet tea, green beans, fried okra, collards, and white bread. Perfection!

@@thebritstry Texas is a big state where it take a day to drive across lol. I have drove all over Texas and have had great bbq all over the state. One place I had to go to was Snows bbq because the pitmaster is an 80 yr old woman and it's only open Saturday.

Great reaction and thanks for sharing. Happy to see you enjoy something outside your comfort zone. Daisy Mae's is famous for its fried chicken so having chicken and waffles there was a perfect choice. But most gas stations in Louisiana have amazing fried chicken, boudin, fries, fried shrimp, po boy sandwiches. You just cannot go wrong. :) My little sister lives just north of New Orleans on the other side of the big lake. Chris

This is an anytime meal ,breakfast lunch or dinner.Growing up unless at my grandparents I didn’t get cooked breakfast it was cereal.But twice a week we had breakfast for dinner.Biscuits and gravy with eggs and bacon or pancakes and sausage.I make my chicken and waffles with boneless chicken strips so I can fold the waffle around it and get the both of best worlds easier.

@@thebritstry It’s so good! I think pepperoni is a safe choice, but any pizzas topped with cured meats would complement best in my opinion; pepperoni, soppressata, prosciutto, pastrami, etc. Pretty much any type of meat you’d see on a charcuterie board would work.

Nice! I'm glad you tried Chicken and Waffles for the first in the South...They just seem to have a much better mastery of Southern dishes in the South, which goes without saying...lol...nice video guys...I also love the way you two interact as a couple...it's very heartwarming. We have this version of chicken and waffles in Pennsylvania and it is quite good. However...The Pennsylvania Dutch version is quite different. It's usually shredded chicken cooked in a white/gravy sauce. The waffles are served with mashed potatoes and the chicken/gravy is smothered over the potatoes and waffles. A local place has it once a week as their special. All you can eat! This mass of carbs hits you like a truck and it's very difficult to make it through a second helping. It's like eating a warm hug. Requires a nap afterwards! BTW...As I watched I was screaming...THE BISCUIT, THE BISCUIT...Butter and dip the biscuit in the syrup!!! Thanks for your time.

A simple trick to eat Chicken and Waffles is to make a sandwich out of it. I like pulling the chicken from the bone and placing it on half the waffle. Pour the syrup over the chicken and then place the other half of the waffle on top. Bing Bang and eat like a sandwich.

One of the best twists I've had on the recipe, which surely isn't for purists... but was a version at a diner that had jalapeños added to the waffle batter. It hit right with the syrup and chicken in all the best ways and I say that as someone who isn't typically a fan of jalapeños!

Salty/spicy & sweet is a universal flavor combination! In South Korea its called 단짠 or danjan danjan and almost always goes hand in hand!

Ah, it's always fun seeing Brits (or anyone not from the US basically lol) try chicken and waffles because truth be told it IS a weird combo. But it works so well. Sweet and savory in general work well together, so the syrup (and powdered sugar on the waffles lol) helps cut through all that fat from the deep fry/oil of the chicken and just tastes good together. I don't think you said in the video or not, but the best kind (imo) of chicken and waffles, is to have it with maple syrup (the real kind, not the fake garbage kind most places have). Just DELISH. In any event, there are SO many unique and landmark places to eat in New Orleans it isn't even funny. The French Quarter has some of the best seafood (ick) restaurants in the world and you'll find incredible southern/cajun/creole places all over (though I'm not sure how Hurricane Katrina affected that sadly, but it has been nearly 20 years so more places might have opened I don't know) including some very high-end places if you are into that sort of dining experience. Not to mention quite a few hole in the wall joints that (again, imo) have some of the best food you'll ever have. Honestly only NYC and maybe Chicago and old parts of San Fran or LA equal New Orleans in the food amazingness and history area. I'm talking places that have been open since you know, 1880 or 1910 or just have a ton of history etc.

I love these videos of our cousins (The Brits) enjoying flavor for the first time in their lives! We Americans have a sense of pity, then it changes to a sense of pride after eating American food. Just remember, it's all regional when it comes to food in the US, and America is huge! Don't let the starting views/subscribers deter you both from your content. It takes time, but you'll get there!

@@thebritstry If you're in New Orleans, you should focus on New Orleans food. Think Cajun food. Anywhere in the South will produce amazing cuisine, but New Orleans is a southern cuisine that is truly New Orleans. Think Gumbo, Jambalaya, Crab boils, Beignets, Etouffee, Po Boys, etc.

Hello this is Marcella from Maryland. As you see America is a very big place. The food changes as you move around from West to East. North and South. Certain foods are better north in some places its just knowing where. West had it own take on things and good food can be found if you speak to the right locals. South as you have seen speaks for itself.East also has a different take on things. So Nicola hold on tight you are in for more taste explosions

i worked at popeyes for a bit and they had a promotional item that ive craved ever since. it was the chicken tenders, but instead of the regular batter, it was waffle batter. it came with a syrup cup. idk if it was just a one time thing they did. i got 3 of them bad boys on my lunch break for like a month

Chicken and Waffles is the best. I usually try to get equal parts chicken and waffle in each bite. Sometimes it's served with boneless fried chicken and that makes it much easier to distribute equal parts chicken and waffle.
