I worked at the local Dairy Queen through my High School years, 1974 to 1978. Pre blizzard era. And we made the Dilly Bars and Buster Bars in - house. They also sold fried mushrooms which you can't find hardly anywhere now. Lots of memories from those days.

I worked at a DQ in Nebraska during high school back in the early 2010s and we also made Dilly bars in house and had fried mushrooms. But I haven't been back there in forever.

I'm so old, I can remember a time when DQ only sold ice cream, splits, shakes and slushes. When they introduced grilled items, it was called DQ Brazer. My first brain freeze came from a limeade slush.

The slushes were called Mr. Mistys. My favorite was the Mr Misty freeze. It was like a milkshake but instead of milk they used any flavor of Mr. Misty like cherry or orange.

I'm 69 years old and went to Dairy Queen since a toddler. I don't remember a time they didn't have food. Maybe it was different in SWFL but my mom used to get a chicken box. My dad got the shrimp basket. I always got a burger. They had what they called an Orange Crush long before the bottled soft drink by the same name. It was a favorite of my mom's. It was like a mixture of Orange slushy and ice cream. Down here Dairy Queen has gone way downhill. Burgers are overcooked. Fries are soggy. And they no longer have the footlong chili dog. They still have a regular chili dog but, the chili isn't as good as it once was. I'm told the ice cream and shakes are still good but I've never liked ice cream.

A lot of them are still regular ice cream shops that dont serve food. Ours has never served food items. Taylorville, Illinois. Closest Brazier is like 20-30 mins away.

Texas Dairy Queens are different than Dairy Queens in other states. They all serve Blizzards and other treats but their entree menu (Burgers and Baskets) are completely different. For instance, you won't find the Dude sandwich outside Texas, nor will you find steak finger baskets. The burgers have different names and some have different condiments outside Texas.

@@staceyboggs7196 if you're on the east coast, go to a burger/diner that's greek-owned. Always some variation of Pete/Peetees, Clock or something like that. Its a burger/hot dog spot, but the calling card is that they always have a gyro on the menu. Homemade steak fingers. And they all have a strange relish-based bbq sauce that is awesome with them.

H should have had a root beer float. It's a glass of root beer with a scoop if ice cream. Any place that has root beer on tap and ice cream should have it on the menu. They are iconic. If you make it to a "Red Robin" restaurant, their root beer floats are amazing. Made in a tall beer mug, pulled straight out of a freezer. Ant they are "Bottomless", if you manage to finish it, they'll refill it.

I remember going to Dairy Queen in Mesquite, Texas with my Memaw (grandma). She’d take me and my cousin. She’d get a burger with mustard, my cousin would get a burger or chicken finger basket. I got the chicken basket. We all got a blizzard or ice cream. Bittersweet memories because Memaw and my cousin are both gone now.

DQ holds a very special place in my heart, since it was the last place I got to share a meal with my mother. I love the chicken strip basket with the white gravy. and my favorite blizzard ever was the Take 5 candy blizzard. I also love their burgers; the DQ fries are better than the average fast-food fries. I'm jealous that the DQ in my town doesn't offer the steak fingers. If that's the same as the "flame thrower" burger, I have a coworker who loves that one. I love to get onion rings and put on their burgers also. I look forward to your videos in my home state of North Carolina!

I was born in Fort Worth, raised in the area, worked in Dallas, went to college in Austin, and have lived in Austin for about 40 years. I feel like you guys are travelling backward through my life. Use to work for one. Technically the hot food is from Dairy Queen Brazier/Dairy Queen Restaurant or more commonly now Dairy Queen Grill and Chill, which is separate from normal Dairy Queen which only sells ice cream. The chicken fingers basket is chicken, fries(chips), and a slice of Texas Toast and gravy, it the most popular menu item from the Grill and Chill.

"Grill and Chill" and all that must be a northern thing. All the DQs I've ever seen are just Dairy Queen, and they've always served burgers and baskets as well as the ice cream.

I grew up in a small town in East Texas called Sabine. We only had 2 fast food chain restaurants, Subway and DQ. But go figure, we moved after I finished 8th grade, and they added a Whataburger and a Sonic 😠. But yeah, I grew up on DQ and the steak finger basket is still one of my favorite fast food meals.

Dairy Queen usually includes “Texas” toast with their meals. Elana is getting big, she’s so adorable! I like Dairy Queen, they’re reliably good, and their ice cream and treats are amazing. My granddaughter always requests one of their ice cream cakes for her birthday.

Not sure if you guys can get these over the pond, but you have to try jalapeno poppers dipped in some warmed up pepper jelly! You need to check your supermarket and see if you can get them. I LOVE to pop me some poppers and jelly! Our Dairy Queen here in town shut down about 20 years ago. It was owned and operated by two very lovely little elderly sisters.....we used to love going in to eat, even though it was all the way across town from us. Those two sisters were just too cute to pass up. I miss it!

so the reason why there are so many dairy queens in small towns is because unlike the big franchises like mcdonalds who require a high amount of people in a square area, DQ has a very low requirement for the amount of people in an area. So they are much easier to open in a small town.

Technically since they didn't flip the blizzard upside down for you it should have been free. That is thier guarantee. It should be able to stay in the cup when flipped over

In this weather (currently 119°F), I'd kill for a Blizzard! 😎 If Lil H only gives it a "2," it may be time for Auntie Norma to have a lil chat about her sophisticated palate😮. If the kid doesn't dig Blizzards, how will we manage doing Coachella during her Gap Year? 😂 Cuz that'll be the issue, not that I'll be in my late 60s by then. Mrs. H, your Spanish pronunciation is getting good. You "nailed it" on "jalitos". However, if you want to impress your friends back home, "jalapeno" is ha-la-PAIN-yo, because it's actually spelled jalapeño, which is like the 'ny' combination in 'canyon'--the same sound you get from 'nh' in Portuguese, and 'gn' in Italian--little known, and less important, right?😀 Oh, yeah! DQ is always good. Re. Decatur, in addition to TX having one, there are also ones in IL and GA. But the big winner is Springfield, which is probably in 1/2 of the states.

I moved to Texas 15 years ago. I noticed that in some small towns here, their local Dairy Queen is the place to go and socialize. In those DQs the staff are friendly and the food is great! I hope you had a fun time on your Texas adventure

I also like the fish baskets. Be sure to get a blizzard on the way out. Also, DQ is one of the few chains left to add flavoring to drinks, such as adding cherry to a rootbeer or vanilla to a coke.

When I was growing up we always stopped at Dairy Queen after softball practice and my mom bought me and my cousin a Vanilla Coke. Then whenever I started ordering my own food I always got the dude burger which is a fried steak burger. I got mine with ketchup with no mayo and with cheese and then I got a Dilly Bar which is a vanilla ice cream on a stick with a hard chocolate coating on the outside which is just really good I think almost everyone loves a Dill Bar. Sometimes when my dad would take us to the lake he would take us by Dairy Queen and just get us an ice cream cone dipped in chocolate which would turn hard and we all love that.

Yes DQ Texas is the best. My hometown has the largest in Texas I believe. It has a plaque in the front. It has a playground for the kids. Also, DQ Texas has some menu items that regular DQs don't have like a burrito, nachos and tacos. Plus, the Burgers all together are not the same.

I wish you could go back in time to the 80’s…I was an assistant manager of a DQ in Waco, TX when I was in college and I can assure you that everything back then was made fresh and in general even better than what you got in 2024. Back then there weren’t Blizzards, but the milk shakes were +++. The little one would have enjoyed a dipped cone I think.

I miss Texas for many reasons, one of which is the steak finger baskets. The DQ places in Missouri only do the chicken tenders basket, but we get that good white gravy and Texas toast with it. Every few months, it is something I will order along with the current chocolate Blizzard available (brownie batter, chocolate explosion, etc.). To me, the best thing about a Blizzard is to let it melt a little while you eat your meal, then mix it all up and sort of drink/spoon it out. So yummy!

Dairy Queen, Brahm's, Carl Jr.'s are all great fast food places. Twisted Root is a GREAT burger place (you might check it out if you come back to Texas, y'all seem burgered out).

If it's more like a milkshake than an ice cream the consistency isn't right. If they didn't flip it, it's supposed to be free. And by flip it I mean turn it completely upside down.
