I'm from New England where we don't really have Mexican influence, which means good tacos are very rare here in the North East. I genuinely cried the first time I ate a proper taco. They were so good it brought tears to my eyes. I could eat authentic tacos (not the beef, lettuce, cheese, tomato American style) every single day. Watching this makes me kind of sad I can't have any lmao. These ones really were big, too. I'm so jealous!

BTW while you're in san diego, gotta visit the coastal beach taco shops.. they are the best all the way up to Carlsbad. AND IF YOU WANT A TREAT do breakfast at "Tip Top Meats" in Carlsbad, its truly the best breakfast ever.

@@thebritstryI live in Chicago and we have a vibrant Hispanic food scene...with around a million Hispanics in Chicagoland. Really cannot go wrong here when it comes to tacos and Mexican food...I love "gringo style" carne asada tacos - steak, lettuce, cheese, red or green hot sauce, corn tortillas.

I looked up Mariscos Mi Gusto Es and saw that they have aguachiles on their menu. It's marinated raw seafood, sort of like ceviche, but with less of a cooked texture. That would be good to try if you ever go back. I *love* cochinita pibil. It comes from Yucatán, a tropical state of Mexico. It's flavored with the juice of Seville oranges (which is sour), not the sweet oranges you find in supermarkets.

Mom and pop shops and food truck tacos are always the best. I guess Danny Trejo the actor opened a taco place that's supposed to be pretty good. He has opened several locations around LA.

You are in San Diego, so might want to look for a place known for their California burritos, which are a San Diego creation. You may also consider driving north and checking out Santa Maria style barbecue (which is a style of grilling) that came out of Southern California. Los Angeles is also a great town for iconic burger restaurants.

I like that you went to several places and tried all different items. Lots of videos of people trying Mexican food for the first time have them going to one place and trying like two things without someone with them who knows Mexican food who can explain things to them, which leads to them not getting a full experience. Barbacoa, usually made with the tender meat from the head, cheeks or neck of the cow, or sometimes sheep, is fantastic. I used to stand in a long line on Sundays hoping to buy some before they ran out. I would buy a container of the meat and serve it at parties with tortilla chips, sun-dried tomatoes and jalapenos.

Al Pastor was invented when a bunch of mexicans saw recent Lebanese migrants cooking Donor Kebab. The Mexican said right, lets do it with pork. So it's a slow roasted marinated pork. The called it Al Pastor as they associated the Lebanese with the holy land.

I was born in San Diego, and whenever I go back to see family, I have to visit Las Cuatro Milpas in Barrio Logan. It’s been family owned since the 1930s, and makes old school San Diego style Mexican food. Make sure to order a dozen tortillas to go.

San Diego has some no joke great tacos but some day you got to try some in Tijuanna and LOS Angeles. Many different types in both cities that are worth trying like Vampiros canasta tacos, and Guisado style tacos

I thought it was maybe because you were turning away from your mics, and that was muffling your voices, but it only seemed to happen during the La Central Barria clips. It didn't seem very busy, so I'm not sure what the issue was.

I'm in Wichita Kansas 🌻 and before all the spoilers out there scoff at me, we have a very large Mexico 🇲🇽 / Spanish speaking community here so we have loads of real Mexican food available. Also, I had an actual Mexican person as a roommate for a couple of years so I had a pretty good education on Mexican food then. Thx for your tutorial on tacos 🌮 in San Diego; you had me laughing (and drooling 🤤 😂).

By the way, the redder taco is cochinita pibil, which cooks in sour orange juice and lots of achiote, which gives the color (among other ingredients, but those are the prominent ones).

Some damn good taco in San Diego, I haven't been there in ages so I'm sure all the places have changed but very fond memories of food in San Diego. "Mexican" Coke is generally the OG recipe since it's made with real sugar, just as in Texas hard to find but you can find Dr epper that is bottled in the OG plant made with yes real sugar. The head meat as you call it generally called Tex-Mex barbacoa beef cheek meat which you will find at any good Taqueria and it is good stuff the small street style tacos, a squeeze of lime I can put down a bunch of them. Well I hope your happy, not today but I will have to trek to my local Taqueria 30 miles away, so I'll be loading up on tacos when I make that trip.

Great video! All the stops and food looks deelish! I personally like my birria authentic made with either goat (cabrito) or lamb (cordero). It a bit diff from any beef. I also like to add the radish slices for that crunch element. I realize that about 10% of the population doesn't like cilantro and I feel so bad for them because I absolutely adore the flavor. My wife of Finnish, Swedish, Norwegian descent also likes it. Cabeza can be different and I personally like the (cachete) cheek meat. Its so rich! We also call it barbacoa because its typically slow cooked. I'm of Mexican descent and I think ya'all ate more Mexican food in one day than I ever have LOL! I think you just missed out on breakfast Mexican entres, tacos and burritos.

As a Southerner who worked in San Diego for some time, here are some unsolicited suggestions, including restaurants, hole in the wall spots and a few personal favorite dishes. Ceviche - Oscar's seafood, university and sixth Sushi - Harney's, Old Town Cafe Coyote, Old Town - street flor tortillas with butter Green Vine National City - sweet potato fries Sammy's Woodfired Pizza, Mission Valley-duck tacos Bahn Thai on Park and Adams- or any restaurant on this stretch. LandL Hawaiian, the one by the 805 and Chula Vista. - comfort food King's Fish House, Mission Valley Any Thai or Pho restaurants rated above 4.6 FYI, almost all common chain type fast food restaurants on the west coast are trash compared to other parts of the US. Exceptions are rare but include smaller specialized places like Freddy's or the odd In and Out Burger as they have reputations to uphold. Really enjoy Yall's videos!
