@@El_Hicks agree.... morrison does that poetically in several of his songs. he takes something literal & then scales it up to another metaphor that still connects to the first but scales out the idea to include the broader culture. he did it also in the end. symbolist poetry written in epic verse. blake and yeats influenced.

@@kelvinkloud Yes, you are correct. Besides Doors I listened to Yes, Grand Funk, The Who. I am so glad young people today see the greatness that we did in those bands. One thing I always keep in mind is unlike young people of today, when we heard these bands they really blew us away as we never heard anything like them and we did not know what would come after. It's like studying history. I can read about the Middle Ages but if I could actually go back and live it it would blow my mind.

Doors drummer John Densmore said in the The Story of L.A. Woman documentary: "The metaphor for the city as a woman is brilliant: cops in cars, never saw a woman so alone - great stuff. It's metaphoric, the physicality of the town and thinking of her and how we need to take care of her, it's my hometown.
@theincorruptedeye8226
@theincorruptedeye8226 3 жыл бұрын
Obviously you don't know what this song is about. Jim planned on faking his death and leaving his girlfriend behind and the entire album tells the story. In this song he's comparing Pam to LA. Would she be a lucky little lady in the city of light, Paris, or another lost angel city of night, LA? He answers that in a rhetorical question beforehand "Where are all the girls in their Hollywood bungalows?'" "I see your hair is burning" she had red hair, "Hills are filled with fire" the high points are brilliant, I'll let you finish the verse. The music video is centered around the movie Vanishing Point which was released at the exact same time that Jim moved, the Mustang that he drove in the video also vanished then. The album was recorded in secret and released after Jim moved, so when the words "Just got into town about an hour ago" were first heard he was already gone, he traveled faster than the speed of sound, now listen to the song before it, one of the cars created a sonic boom.

the lyrics are deeper then many know.... never saw a woman so alone is a KILLER line if you think about its psychological meaning in re to the collective culture. LA the city of vanity & dreams. the mecca of narcissism. the infotainment empire of the West. its images shape the norms of a lot of our culture.... that is what morrison is digging into here. our culture has an endless appetite for voyeurism. TV is that window & LA is the factors of that production. its an empty pit that cant be filled, but people are drawn like moths to the flame regardless... that is what that line points to. & if you think about it & LA's power of our entire culture, morrison nailed then & more importantly what was coming now. people hooked to narcissism. Alone inside, playing shadow theater to fake it.

He was from Westport Ct, where I was an au pair from Denmark. He went to the famous Miami Doors concert and were a witness at Morrisons trial, (according to the transcripts from the trial, he was on Morrison's side) he was a cinamatographer and took pictures from the concert and also did a photo shoot for one of their albums.

I was a teenager in the 60s growing up in LA. No band exemplified LA better than the Doors. The freeway traffic, bars nightclubs drugs angst scariness excitement danger thrill and strange more than the Doors

"DRIVING THROUGH ANOTHER DIMENSION" is a great description of this song; the vocal, the drumming, piano and guitar playing are superb. The driving and frenetic beat of the song fits with listening while driving along a freeway. Their music was part of the LA Laurel Canyon scene which gave us folk rock and psychedelic music in the late 60s. You must watch the Netflix documentary called "Echo in the Canyon" which is describes this section of LA as a musical Garden of Eden and will give you an insight into what it was like. So many great musicians were interacting and creating new musical sounds and great songs and a new kind of rock. You still need to react to some of these artists such as Joni Mitchell, the group Crosby, Stills Nash and Young, the Byrds and Jackson Brown. I think you already reacted to Linda Ronstadt and the Eagles who were part of this scene. Yes react to "The End". I think the recorded versions are usually better so listen t them first then the live version. Here is a good live 1968 version of "Love Me Two Times" kzfaq.info/get/bejne/pslxhsKanJ-7iXk.html

I love the A-B dynamic between vocals and the guitar. Usually thats done between voice and harmonica but it works well with the guitar and should be done more often.

The Doors understood LA. Underneath the Hollywood glitz and glamor is a seething sexual tension that exists in LA. The Doors understood and captured that tension climaxing with the buildup of “Mojo Rising”. So cool, so sublime. Roadhouse Blues is a Doors must.

its also a micrcosm for the greater culture hooked into the hwood/media empire of LA. the driver of imagary, narcissism, advertising, TV etc.... your right morrison was keen to all of that and was making a reflective statement in LA woman album about the greater culture. where it was & where it was going.

Epic song! Love everything about it! Fun Fact: Elvis' bass player Jerry Scheff is killing it on the 4 string here. He really lays it down just perfect! Been listening to this for a long time but didn't learn until recently! Another cool song from this album is The WASP
