Ok so there's Suffragette City, Ziggy Stardust, Changes, Starman, Young Americans, Fame, Under Pressure with Freddy Mercury, Heroes, Rebel Rebel, I'm Afraid of Americans, and so many more. Welcome to the David Bowie rabbit hole, you're in for a treat, my Bros!

Kind of saddening to me how everybody is just mentioning the obvious ones. Nobody mentions masterpieces like "Station To Station", "Stay", or "Cygnet Committee" among many other Tunes I consider way superior to his Radio Hits lol. But you can't go wrong with Bowie either way, I guess.

This song is actually from 1969, the same year as the first moon landing, so it would be more accurate to say that it anticipated the music of the 1970s. That is certainly no surprise, as David Bowie was an innovator and managed to stay a little ahead of his time throughout his career. He was one of the great geniuses of classic rock.

It's great that you're reacting to David Bowie songs and this one in particular. He was so influential in the 60s and 70s and beyond and I must have had loads of his songs. This one definitely takes you on a trip into outer space or beyond. You just go with it and enjoy. The film 2001 A Space Odyssey came out in 1968 and this song was released in 1969 so I reckon this was based on the movie. I loved songs like Jean Genie, Heroes, Rebel Rebel, Ziggy Stardust, Oh You Pretty Things, honestly the list is endless! David Bowie was a master at changing his image and sound, I think he was a genius at what he did! You're right, George, 70s rock is brilliant - so much experimentation was going on, bands finding their niche if you like and of course with all the different instruments making psychedelic sounds, it was like nothing we'd ever heard before!! Loads of new bands starting up, we were really spoilt! I'm so glad you've started doing reactions for David Bowie, I'm sure you will do plenty more. I so enjoyed your reaction to this one, George and Patrick, obviously something new for you and it's great you really got into it! All the best.

This was actually released in 1969, just before the Apollo11 Moon landing. It was his first major international hit. He went on to become one of the most innovative and influential music artists of all-time! He was hugely respected within the music industry. He's one of the giants of modern popular music! During the 70s he'd adopt a different persona for 2 or 3 albums and would become that character for that period. His two most famous alter-egos are 'Ziggy Stardust' and the 'Thin White Duke'. The 'Major Tom', mentioned in this song, has his story continued, more than a decade later, in Bowie's song 'Ashes to Ashes'. It was a huge hit too. He's had so many hits, over the decades, that it's hard to know where to start. As well as Ashes to Ashes, I'd also recommend 'Wild is the Wind'. It showcases his vocal ability and is a beautiful song. Just make sure it's the, slightly longer, album version. Of course, you can't look into Bowie, without listening to his album, 'The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars'. It's one of the most influential albums in music history. It marks the height of glam rock and parts of it envision punk, well before punk rock happens. If the dictionary ever needs a good definition of 'cool' it could just have a picture of Bowie. He remained the epitome of cool, throughout his long career. An intelligent and witty man, when he died it was headline news around the World. World leaders, including the Pope and Barack Obama, paid tribute to him and the British Parliament tok time to pay tribute too, as did virtually every major star in the music industry. He's sorely missed. He was unique and we won't see his like again.

Bowie was a fantastic entertainer. I saw him many times in concert and, similar to the Talking Heads, it's performance art. Bowie is one of those performers who reinvented his persona many times. The Major Tom character has surface a few times throughout the decades but space references were found all the way to his last album, Blackstar. His performance in the film The Man Who Fell To Earth was as an alien.

Written around the time of The First Man On The Moon around 1968/69. The special effects were created by Rick Wakeman who was ( at that time ) the only person who knew how to use the Mellotron instrument and he got paid £6 for the session..................however Rick would NOT tell the Engineers how he did it so he monopolized all the Mellotron work for a long time until he joined the Magnificient YES ( Roundabout is for YOU guys )..... Along with Keith Emerson and Jon Lord, Rick Wakeman was one of those 3 Englishmen who were the greatest keyboard/organ players of that generation :)

Before you get started on a ton of space-related songs, I wanna let you know only about a dozen Bowie songs out of 400 are involved with space. His career was incredibly diverse, so you'll hear a ton of songs about other things. This music video came out 4 years after the song and had nothing to do with Ziggy Stardust, and I'm glad you used a thumbnail for the right era, because there's an earlier music video for the demo version where he was more of a hippie. I strongly recommend you check out some of his different material as well as the songs people have mentioned. My picks for you two are: Wild Eyed Boy from Freecloud from the same record All the Madmen from The Man Who Sold the World Hang on to Yourself from The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and The Spiders from Mars Lady Grinning Soul from Aladdin Sane We Are the Dead from Diamond Dogs Win from Young Americans Sons of the Silent Age from Heroes Teenage Wildlife from Scary Monsters (and Super Creeps) Loving the Alien from Tonight As the World Falls Down from the Labyrinth Soundtrack Seven Years in Tibet from Earthling Bring Me the Disco King from Reality You Feel So Lonely You Could Die from The Next Day If you pick any of these songs, whichever sound the most interesting to you, I can guarantee you'll be stunned. Keep up the great work! ❤

So many amazing songs Bowie made! Ashes to Ashes Heros Changes Ziggy Stardust Life on Mars Fame And so many more... He helpt also Iggy Pop and Loo Reed to find the success. And he wrote the song which is my favorite performance of Nirvana : "The Man Who Sold The World" And I'd forget his last album "Blackstar" exit few days before his death. A pure gem.

IF you take a very close look, you will see that David Bowie's eyes are different colors! One is blue and the other is an orange hue!
