Your questions about why real music like this is not happening in the mainstream now are questions which should be asked loud and clear and often. Yes, technology is one of the villains. Autotune, playback, keyboard digital "sound" rather than the playing of actual instruments - all these things amount to sound fraud. It cheapens everything - brings everything down to the lowest common denominator, which is a quick way to make quick money with inartistic, low-standard, disposable "songs", which the masses blindly gobble up because they don't know any better. This quick-buck strategy has taken place in exact timeline tandem with the gobbling-up of independent radio stations by corporate radio. These two entities - the mainstream music industry and their public relations machine working with corporate radio - have formed a stranglehold of control over what people are fed - and artistry, individualism, and craftsmanship are NOT welcome in this race-to-the-bank world. But beyond this culturally deadening situation, we've now logged 20-25 years - that's an entire generation - who have for the most part listened exclusively to one genre. One. Hip-hop/rap have totally dominated the mainstream scene for a quarter of a century. That's an insanely long time for a single genre to totally suffocate everything else - this sort of suffocation has never before happened anywhere in music history. Exposure to every sort of genre and era is essential to human listening and human creation of music. Freddie Mercury, his bandmates, and every performer ever prior to the 1990s had this exposure via home record-playing, wide and various radio airplay, school chorus and band programs, all manner of sources. They learned, by simple exposure, to form frames of reference, the ability to compare, to be influenced, to care about craft, to form a foundation from which they could develop their own way. It's the same as books. It used to be that every ordinary household had books in it. Some more than others, but they all had them. Now, look around, almost no home one enters has any books. No cultural exposure at all to the wider world past or present. More and more and more people are existing in an intellectual vacuum. The black hole. There is no nourishment there, there is no growth. It used to be that really everyone had record collections in their homes, and generally those collections contained a fair representation of assorted genres. People were not relying solely on radio, or any SINGLE source for their music. Today, the majority of people are existing also in a sound vacuum, listening to a single genre fed to them, never exploring anything else, and the music industry deliberately encourages this because it makes very easy money. These are not good times we all live in, from artistic standpoints. Genuinely good, real music artistry isn't dead, but it has been buried and shunted off to the "indie" category; people have to dig for it if they even know it exists to begin with, and good art should never have to be searched for that hard. It should be right out there up front where everyone knows about it. Where it all goes from here is very hard to say, but right now, aside from the indie artists, the landscape is a desert, and the questions you ask here should be shouted to the skies.

You want to know why the quality isn’t in todays music? I don’t think the bands are as passionate and don’t have the pure talent it takes to become legendary bands as Queen and others. It takes lots of special categories in a band to achieve what Queen has.

Freddie is literally one in a million. He had a 5 octave range, he has charisma on stage like NO other. Want to understand command of a stage? Watch Queen on Live Aid. Freddie had a crowd that largely ignored other groups in that event, clapping in unison and raising their hands, 100K people who were not really a Queen crowd. It was unbelievable...and I saw it live :)

This is one of my favorite live performances for many reasons, 1) that smirk he gives at the beginning before he belts out his first note. It's like he couldn't contain his excitement that he was about to blow these people's minds. 2) the camera doesn't just spotlight Freddie, it closeups all the band members and gives them attention. Trying to promote that vibe that Freddie isn't the leader but a part of a band with three other members with insane talent. 3) The talent itself. Each member having something amazing to bring to the table, making this one of the best performances in rock history. Also the way Freddie doesn't try to match the recorded version of the song at all. He takes his own song and makes it his own once again, the way he played with his voice, his range, the timing-it made this song I've heard so many times sound like a new song. No artist I've ever heard in my life has EVER been able to pull that off. 4) Stage presence. Freddie isn't putting on a show for the entertainment of the crowd entirely, the way he moves its obvious he's just having loads of fun and that he's in the moment just enjoying himself. He isn't in it for the sex appeal or the admiration and fame.

Definitely the greatest live performance of all time! And to answer your question, today’s artists are all trying to create the perfect vocal but lack heart and soul so they all sound alike and are naked without auto tune. It’s like the qualities that make for a great dish. It needs to look and taste great. Artists today only focus on the looks, like a beautiful cake that is cardboard inside. Artists of before knew it had to look and taste good. And those that didn’t always look good made up for it in taste. After all of you had a choice, would you want your food to look good or taste crap, or taste great and look crap? Artists like Freddie made a feast for the eyes and made your mouth water!

OMG! That is the best reaction I’ve seen to this song. When Bro on the right (I’m so sorry I don’t know your names) became angry at the lack these days of this sort of performance. That right there, was passion for the music! There was no auto tune back then, they had to use their own creativity and hone their skills to perfection. Queen always put their all into their live performances, and most of the time they were better than the studio versions. Live Aid is one you really should check out. To see a crowd of 80,000 people who all came to see the other bands because Queen weren’t even on the ticket when it was sold out, all responding they way they did. It was all Freddie! Brian and Roger have said that what Freddie did that day, was something special. And he had a throat infection at the time! He had been told by his doctor not to go on stage but Freddie ignored this advice, and it has gone down in history as the best ever performance by a rock band. No special effects, no fancy lighting or pyrotechnics, just 4 guys with their instruments and pure, raw talent.

This is my all time favorite live performance ❤❤❤ And exactly 10 years before he died which insane. I def agree with you guys about the quality söabout today's music. They don't make real genuine music anymore. There's some exceptions, but it's not alot. It's sad.

Welcome to Queen Live! No auto tune, just great musicians! The best live performance ever is said to be Queens live set at Live Aid Wembly 1985. 17 min of pure talent. The drummer is Roger Taylor who had the highest range so would take the high notes on live performances. He also has a great rock raspiness to his voice. Freddy had a greater overall vocal range, but Roger could hit what Fred called his “dog whistle range”. They all were multi instrumentalists and songwriters. A very talented group of guys!

I had the honor and privilege of seeing Queen live with Freddie Mercury, 3 times! The first time I was in the front row and Queen just started to make it in North America. I was just a few feet from Freddie (he actually sweat on me!!) and Brian did an awesome guitar solo while I held onto his shoes!!! I have to tell you THEY SOUNDED JUST LIKE THEIR ALBUM!. I did not realize when I was a young teen, I was witnessing the greatest vocal and live performer in history. Even now, my son, who plays guitar (thanks to the influence of Queen who I played endless when he was growing up), cannot believe that I was THAT close to this legend and thinks it's super cool to tell his buddies of mom witnessing some of the best rock moments in history!!! BTW, I did meet John Deacon and Paul Rodgers when he finished his tour with Queen!! Some wonderful memories!!! There is NO ONE who comes close to Freddie and Queen. Like most Queen fans, I never stopped being one!!!

Freddie is the best frontman, performer, singer of all time. Like others have said, you should react to anything from the Live at Wembley 1986 concert. Also, White Queen live at the Odeon- Hammersmith 1975, and You take my breath away, live at Hyde Park 1976.just a few of their Great songs. This will be a long journey for you all, but Well Worth it.

I just love you guys! And of course, I adore Queen. Did you notice that Bri sort of wanders away at one point. He broke a string. Freddie picked right up on it. Never broke stride. He interacted with the audience and stretched out the time a little and picked up when Bri came back in. They never missed a beat. It was absolutely seamless. True professionals. 4 master musicians totally in sync with one another and with the crowd. Truely awesome performance!

In the years 1977 to 1982, I worked part time at the Montreal Forum, the place where this show was filmed. As an employee, I had the opportunity to see all the shows and hockey games presented at the Forum. So I had the chance to see this show with a stage pass, it was the 2nd time that I saw Queen live at the Forum. I also had the chance to see Jethro Tull, Frank Zappa, Moody Blues, The Woo, Yes, Genesis, Gentle Giant, Supertramp, Nazareth, Gino Vannelli, Aerosmith, Styx, Boston, Peter Gabriel, Eagles, Al Stewart, Peter Frampton, more countless of hockey games The best job of my life. I was working on the night shift to prepare the arena for the shows (floors, seats and stage), and after the show to undo the set-up for the hockey games.

Best vocalist ever imho, and I'm sure there's millions who would agree. Ive said it a million times now, but I'm saying it again, Freddie Mercury was self taught, I just can't get my head around that fact. Ps how good was Roger Taylor as well. He could of been a lead singer of most other bands, and he just seemed to compliment Freddie so well, he was on the same wavelength as him whenever they performed together.

Great question about what happened to the quality of music today. Bands and artists back in the 70s and 80s had such great talent and charisma and originality. Nowadays most groups sample from these incredible artists as they dont have their own style. These legends created such iconic music and were just so exciting to watch live. Nothing these days comes even close. Love your reactions ♥️

You’re right. Technology has made it possible for anyone who “looks right” to sing and for machines to make “music.” The human, real talent, has been extracted- you can’t know anymore what’s real and what’s fake. Freddie and Queen, like all the other greats from back in the day, were the real thing. 💯 In the studio and live. I saw Queen live in ‘74, ‘78, and ‘80 and they absolutely were as great as you can see here. And Freddie always had something new up his sleeve. Entertaining to the nth degree. It was almost impossible to take your eyes off of him. Love you guys and so glad you get to see them on video and totally get it how magnificent they were. Keep Queen and Freddie on his own coming!
