The reason they appeared to penetration almost identically is that the gel stopped the arrow by squeezing the shaft like foam does. All the broadheads the same arrow so they penetrated approximately the same. I bet a target tip would penetrate about the same as the broadheads.

I would take the exodus out of all of these. The wound channel from the single bevel is really cool, but it acts against the arrow for penetration. Cool video.

great comparison of the broadheads. My only notes are that ballistic gell is a terrible media to demonstrate arrow penetration. It in no way represents an accurate comparison to an animal. Organs are highly mobile and will push and pull from the head and arrow shaft, gel only pulls into it and creates a large (inaccurate) amount of drag on the shaft. My second note is that bow hunters have gotten very lazy when it comes to broadheads. No one wants to put in the work to sharpen heads. Obviously, most "modern" designs with 3 or more blades are very hard to sharpen, but all 2 blade designs are sharpenable, and should be sharpened before a hunt. Even if its brand new. People have been dropping moose since the 1940s with Zwickey 2 blades and sub 60 lb recurves, the reason is because they keep their heads stupid sharp.. single bevel is a superior grind as well. It naturally spins while cutting, it pulls flesh into the cut instead of pushing it away, and when it contacts bone it doesnt slice into it, it splits and separates it causing far less shaft drag through the bone. Physics stands behind the superior cutting ability of single bevels

rp771xl the gel shows the wound channel is the good thing same thing it does with bullets

No but it is more consistent than animal, which if your doing research on anything, you would want a consistent repeatable process to establish a baseline.

the gel is just to compare between heads, not represent a deer. it's a great medium for comparing wound channels and depth. but the viewers should definitely realize this, and not knock a broadhead for only going so far. that head would surely blow right through any deer. similar to the torture tests here on youtube. the heads that are weaker than the "winner", are still more than tough enough to kill any deer that walks the earth. personally, i don't base any of my broadhead choices off of youtube videos. failure is almost 100% due to shooter error, poor shot placement. many choose that toughest head, because they want the higher chance of success for a poor shot, hitting bone.
@ryanr72499 жыл бұрын
Slick trick is a 4 blade and the exodus is a 3 blade, so I would expect there to be less penetration from the slick trick. They are both amazing heads and will kill any deer when put in the right spot. Cool video.
@yahshuah299 жыл бұрын
Ryan R I would expect the helix to have less penetration but im a geek and understand physics! In a way it had superior penetration because it cut threw more material. It traded linear penetration for rotational cutting I will take that over the others because it means more damage and cutting to tissue and blood vessels and more bleeding! Science is great when you understand it I am buying these asap!
@Bowfella2 жыл бұрын
It looks like you have a right bevel helix head. With a right single bevel head you NEED to have right hand fletching for it. Because if the arrow is spinning the opposite direction of the BH then you're wasting a lot of energy upon impact. Which is probably why it didn't penetrate as much as the multi-blade heads. This is why people use offset or helical fletchings for single bevel heads.

Just bought a pack of land shark broadheads they look sick should make a big cut for the 125 grain size guess we’ll see if I get a deer this yr. I also want to get the samurai and Maasai from grizzly stick some iron will heads and some woodsman elites three blade broadheads because I only have three blade broadheads that are kind of junky cheap ones that come in 4 parts and the steel on the blades have to be the cheapest Chinese steel I could get sharpen like shit very unhappy but online they looked sick my bad. I use a 400 grain shafts plus 125 grain heads making a total weight of 525 grains which should work great I think with my Ravin R10 crossbow that shoots at 380 FPS it’s my 1st year with the Ravin R10 crossbow but for the $1200 I paid for it which I had to pull the trigger because they sell for $1700 and I got a deal with a sick scope and a fantastic built in crank system which Uncan’t use in Massachusetts unless you can prove through doctors that I can’t pull a bow back because I have rheumatoid arthritis and my elbows and shoulders are beat up and I can’t pull a bow back even light pullback because my arms can’t move enough to pull a regular bow back enough to get a good shot off when I can only pull back a bow about 3/4 of what n needed to make a good shots that would most likely just injure a dear without good kill shot and I would hate to injury a dear that would not take a dear down for the count but just injure a dear and cause a deer to get a slow death which would only not kill a deer but only cause infection over time and I like to hunt and get kills not cause suffering at the best case but also that dear to get away and loose the meat and I believe in only taking shots to get the meat out which rather than taking shots that could only hurt a dear in away that just only hurts a dear so u can’t can’t get the meat due to how the dear how far the dear will run much further And will die weeks later f infection. I’m a very pro human kills rather than taking bad shots as I consider myself a humane hunter and don’t shoot deers die for many reasons unless the shot will cause death in 10-30 seconds. Poachers make me sick as do people who shoot for nothing but fun without eating what they’ve hunting

Good video 👍🏻The reason the qad exodus did better In The gel is the head and tip is bigger than the arrow shaft get alot of drag on the shaft in the gel , nothing to do with how good the heads perform on a deer all great heads , if you where using say a 204 shaft would see completely different results , not saying small arrows are better I like standard size shafts just gel is not realistic, to dry and sticky ! That's why I shoot bullet points bigger then my shaft easy to pull out of targets bigger hole shaft don't drag same principle
@Timberdam5 жыл бұрын
think the penetration is limited by the Gel on the arrow shaft...Your right...HELIX TWO BLADE SINGLE BEVEL cut rotational wound channel..and in real world on an animal ...would create best wound channel and SPLIT BONE....not my opininion...Evidence based studies..Read Dr.ASHBYS extensive testing

@johnweaver84083 жыл бұрын
Ballistic jell has way more drag on the arrow shaft than an animal. That’s one reason the two blades didn’t do better than the three blades. In a animal they would definitely out penetrate the 3 blades
@lesrach38 жыл бұрын
Been looking for a review like this on the exodus. Definitely going to try them out next season. Even though you only get one broadhead for the price of 3 lol.

The two blades do not create as large of a wound channel as 3 and 4 blades, so there is more friction on the shaft which is why they under-penetrated.
@Super64heavy8 жыл бұрын
A double-bevel blade, perhaps. Never underestimate the power of a single-bevel two blade where a rotational force is induced when/or continues after impact. As opposed to double bevel blades that stop rotating at impact. The rotating broad head will create a devastating wound channel. Assuming the hunter does their part also. As far as shaft size is concerned; if the shaft has a larger diameter than the ferrule, yes that would increase friction forces(resistance). Also, as the number of blades increases so to will friction(resistance). Three blades are better then four, two are better then three. There are other factors too, such as momentum, total weight, FOC, diameter, speed,etc...In the video he tries to keep things as equal as possible(same bow, arrow type and distance, etc.) You can really see the rotation of the Helix. Ballistic gel isn't the same as flesh of course but it does the job. All the broadheads used will kill critters deader then dead.
@christiana-l78828 жыл бұрын
+Super64heavy The wound channel in ballistic gel closes back to its original form once something is not blocking it (but the cuts still remain). Only the permanent wound channel is what stays open. In an animal the blood will act as a lubricant, but in ballistic gel there is no lubricant so there is an increased amount of friction in general. The 3 and 4-bladed broadheads cut a larger wound channel so there is less friction on the arrow shaft, but there is more friction on the broadhead itself. A 2-blade broadhead will have less friction, but more friction on the shaft because the wound is thinner in diameter perpendicular to the blades. Im not really sure if the trade-offs of friction will make the broadheads "even" but a 2-bladed broadhead with a single bevel should always out penetrate in a test like this based on the Ashbey tests.

2 blade broadheads have accounted for more big game taken around the world than any other broadhead type. period. A quality single bevel head will blast through bone and create more internal bleeding than any double bevel head, even a 4 blade. It's simple physics, people should understand the superior nature of single bevels by now. It was proven back in 2006 for gods sake.
