Great review as always Rich. Good shooting on what sounded a windy day. The action of the side lever seemed a lot smoother than what the old ‘bolt action’ would provide. 👍

Richard, the little wobble in the butt stock is called "AR wobble". There is a simple fix for this. Remove the butt stock from the buffer tube. Just inside the top of the butt stock place a little piece of sticky velcro (the fluffy side). Slide the stock back onto the tube and you should have zero wobble.

I remember when I owned a verminator MK2 ,a shooting pal said it would be useless for hunting because the pigeons and crows would see the movement of the side lever when cocking the rifle. Fast forward 8 years and most rifles have a side lever.

I hear you. I've got a mate who has a .25 cal. 40 ft. lbs. Concept Lite - the XR's bolt action predecessor. He gets about 25 shots to a fill, which is not a lot but for hunting rabbits in the summer its a great little rifle and lasts several sessions...

At last , a proper target being used , that'll please my mrs .. your right in saying that previous brococks were a bit awkward in cycling the magazine , prior to the side lever being fitted , I alway said they felt a little " industrial " (as in my sniper hr ) nevertheless , being like that I found it kinda manly ( for want of a better word ) the only problem I came across , and it may just have been my particular rifle , was finding a pellet that was accurate through the magazine , and after extensive pellet testing I found the H&N Baraccuda FT were just about the best .. btw , not very pellet fussy with the supplied single shot tray .. super review , on a very nice rifle .. keep em coming Richard ..

Ha! You have no idea how long I spent rooting about in my cupboard for that target 'cos I knew you'd moan! I think part of the issue with some of the old bolt action Brococks was that operating that 'slam bam' bolt would damage the pellet. The side lever is so much better to shoot.

Great review - straight forward and to the point. Always been a fan of the Daystate/ Brock rifles and had one of the first concept 6 models years ago. Beautiful and light and shot more rabbits with it than any of my other rifles. Why? It was so light and compact it was the rifle I took out when I wasn’t going to bother taking a gun - i shot a lot a lot rabbits on evenings I was only taking a walk around the farm. On a Brocock site a few hours ago I noticed that they mention a folding stock option but it’s not mentioned in any of the reviews I’ve looked at?

Nice review. I liked your close up views. Been looking at this and the daystate revere. Hard choice just wish the were a bit more powerful. As we have no restrictions here in America. But I see you Brits doing some amazing shot's. That really impress me! I can hunt prairie dog's but would be in the wind and probably 75 to 100 yards. What are your thoughts on that distance and at that yardage with either rifle in .22 caliber. Thank you for your time and knowledge.

Hi Rod. Thanks for watching, and thanks for taking the time to comment. Both the Revere and Concept XR are available at 40 ft. lbs in .22 which is enough to give you around 1000 fps, or even more depending on the weight of pellet you use. To be honest, at that kind of power you are not going to get many shots per air fill. If its windy you'll likely want to use heavier pellets or slugs. You might want to consider a bottle rifle as opposed to a cylinder rifle. The Daystate Delta Wolf and Red Wolf, for example, or the FX Impact or Maverick. I am sure others will have a view of other rifles too. They are all available in bigger calibres and at higher power levels too; the FX rifles and Daystate Delta Wolf will nudge 100 ft lbs if tuned in .30 calibre. I use a 95 ft. lbs. .30 calibre FX Impact and a 67 ft. lbs. .22 Delta Wolf to shoot rabbits out to 70 metres. I hope that helps. And thanks again for watching.

Thank you for this review, l am thinking of purchasing a FAC Commander. I am a bit concerned with the stock. Did you find that the wobble in the stock was uncomfortable and did it affect accuracy in any way? Had you any issue with the magazine sheering pellets? Have you anything to add to your review after living with the gun for a while? I would be very great full for any feeback.

Hi Oscar. We did a review on the Commander XR Magnum kzfaq.info/get/bejne/jr2YeauYrqu5co0.html which may be of interest. Its my own rifle and gives 55 ft. lbs. in .25 calibre. I use it a lot to shoot rabbits at 50-60 metres. The stock is very solid. Yes, there is a tiny bit of movement but you'll only notice it if you really look for it. In the shoulder I don't notice any movement. I've not noticed an issue with shearing off pellets. The .25 JSB King Heavy Exact mk 2 fit just fine and the new gated magazines seem deeper than the old style as well.

@@alphamilitaria2756 Thank you for getting back to me. I had a look at your other Brocock guns on KZfaq. I also had a look at some of your scope information on your website. Can you please advise me of a good hunting scope around £200, with an illuminated retical (I'm at that age now where my eyes are not as they used to be), yet still gives me a good magnification without distortion? Keep up the good reviews!

@@Oscarhobbit Hi Oscar. Thanks for watching. Ideally you want a scope that has adjustable parallax either via a side wheel or a collar on the objective lens. Variable magnification is handy too, but don't make the mistake of thinking you need 24x or 30x. 16x is more than adequate in my experience. Hawke do some great scopes in your budget range - take a look at the Vantage series. And if you can stretch the budget a little further, there are some good MTC Optics scopes too, esp0eciallin the mamba and Viper series. Don't forget to budget for some mounts too. I always use Sportsmatch because they are guaranteed for life.

@alphamilitaria2756
@alphamilitaria2756 3 жыл бұрын
Thanks very much Captain. The IR torch in the video, and the one I use most for ratting, especially on the Brocock Sniper XP, is an eBay cheapy, no more than £20-30 is memory serves. Its small and light and plenty powerful for short range shooting. However, when I am out rabbiting and shooting at longer ranges, especially if I'm using an FAC rifle, I use a Solaris SRX IR Laser Illuminator. It is very good but not not necessary for ratting. I hope that helps. Thanks for watching.

@@frizzle1002000 Hi Captain. We've got a short write up on the Sniper XR as part of the Brocock range. alphamilitaria.com/air-guns/air-rifles/brocock-air-rifles/. But you're right that we don't have an in-depth review. We are scheduled to post a video review in a few days’ though which I hope will be of interest. To be honest, quite why Brococks don't have the same profile as other brands is a little bit of a mystery to me. They are real hidden gems. The company was acquired by the group that owns Daystate in 2014. I think its fair to say that there was a ‘bedding in’ process because some of the early rifles suffered reliability issues. However, in the last two to three years there has been a marked improvement both in terms of quality, reliability and design. The Daystate influence has really started to come through now and although the ranges are separate with different positions in the market, the benefits of the acquisition started taking effect a couple or three years ago. For example, all Brococks are now fitted with a Huma-Air regulator - one of the best available - as standard. And the entire range shifted from quite a clunky bolt action to a fantastic, smooth and efficient sidelever about 18 month/two years ago. A new gated magazine with bigger capacity similar to those on Daystates, is also rolling out now as well. Brocock pioneered the semi-bullpup category with the Compatto and Bantam, and the Sniper XR is an evolution of the Bantam. It is light and compact, gives good shoulder fit thanks to the adjustable stock and scope mounting options, and has great shot count that is consistent across the fill range. I use a Sniper XR a great deal for ratting and stalking rabbits because it is really quiet thanks to the shrouded barrel, and almost silent with a silencer as well. Good luck, and please keep an eye out for our video on Feb 18th.

Hi William. It's just a different style of attaching a scope to a rifle. I believe the original intent was for use on large calibre recoiling rifles and military weapons to help prevent an optic moving under recoil. They have simply become fashionable for air rifles as well.

Hi rich, i finally bought the concept xr second hand. Rifle came with no paperwork so was hoping you might be good enough to answer a couple of questions for me? First of all what pessure can i charge it too? The red on the guage reads red after 200 bar but have conflicting statement's. Most are saying i can charge to 250? Secondly i find it difficult to get good eye relief with conventional scope so was thinking about the mtc swat type. Good idea? If so, which one would be the one to get out of the two? Or possibly the mtc viper connect?
@alphamilitaria2756
@alphamilitaria2756 3 жыл бұрын
Great choice. As a regulated rifle, you can charge to 250. With regards to the scope/eye relief, do you can a raised picatinny rail, or the dovetail rail? This might come in handy too: brocock.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2020/10/BROCOCK-B5-XR_HANDBOOK-2020.v3.pdf

@@fatbloke2285 And you can't move the scope forward in the mounts? I've got a regular scope on mine and there's plenty of room (not that that helps you much!). If not, the SWAT is a fine scope, but I'm not a big fan of the dovetail adapters, so I'd recommend a Viper Connect - a bit cheaper too.
