I live in Florida and have fallen head over heals for Broken Arrow High School Band. They are, in my opinion, the best. I wish I could have the pleasure of seeing them in person.

Except that performing bands have to usually sit at the visitor side and don't get to have the full experiences of other performances

this show is so well written especially the woodwind feature in 6:38 and how it sounds really similar to edge of eternity can't wait to see how they do at grand nats, saw them at st louis and they were amazing

Nah not really, 2021 was a great year debatably their best but Hebron is more like Devils lol. Hebron comes out with bangers literally every year and they win nearly everything (especially the past 2 years). In no way am I saying that negatively either, both bands are amazing but Hebron is definitely more like devils than BA

@@iandolan_ i personally dont find BD shows too interesting at all, and i feel the same about BA, and BA tends to win a bunch of their contests similarly to BD, while hebron has actually amazing shows each year rather than boring ones that impress the judges, imo

I was there in person. All I can say is that they are good. I feel like some people in Oklahoma think BA is the best there ever was, they are not. They're a high school band. They're good, really good in fact, but that doesn't mean everyone else should be content with placing under them. I was not blown away by last years performance after much hype from my band (which I will not be naming, but we were top 10). There were some other really good bands there on October 29th, bands that I think out preformed BA this year, and I believe they were robbed. Bixby by far had a more interesting, technically appealing show in my opinion to this garbled mess. I think Broken Arrow has been compared so much to a DCI band that they have become a DCI Jr. band, and I think then it loses its purpose. I think Over The Edge was just that, over the edge. There we so many people on the field, so many moving props, so much *stuff* that it lost intrinsic pieces that make it a high school band. The kids and the director's egos have been stretched for to thin and I think they think that they can just throw whatever on the field and win, which is disheartening to every other 6A Oklahoma band who compeats with them. I mean this is the ONLY competition they do in Oklahoma throughout the season. I understand that life isn't fair, and I don't think that BA should be villinized as they are just kids, but I think everyone needs to see that they have an unfair advantage. Since they always win, they get to host the next year, they have an indoor field that is heated for the cold, rainy Oklahoma falls, they get catered meals while everyone else sits in the parking lot on the ground and in busses during the day, their instruments getting flat and rained on (again, I was there preforming, it sprinkeled all day and got in our bus, on our uniforms, and on our instruments), they even had a pre-schedualed "encore performance" after scores were announced. They knew they would win. This is really long, but its all to say that, Broken Arrow gets and unfair advantage in Oklahoma due to their praise, and other kids quit because of it. For all of you saying that BA desservses to win for more than 2 decades in a row, please understand that we, as marchers, don't. They should have the same odds as us, and it hurts to see one favored and praised while the rest of us sit on our busses eating food our band parents serve to us under tents, in the cold, while we inevitably wait for "BROOOOKEN ARROW" to be labeled the winners year after year.

I agree. I think this show lacked a lot of originality in many ways. The theme of the show is very simple, and it seems like the entire point of the show was that it was a sequel to their 2021 show but now they are angry. In some ways for me, this show retroactively dampens the impact of their 2021 show. Edge of Eternity was about a couple’s love, and how their love for each other was so profound that it would persist beyond all strife and time. Then this show comes along, basically saying that every one is just mad now because the relationship ended, which directly contradicts everything that made Edge of Eternity so moving. The music arrangements also seem a bit janky at times and the show doesn’t feel very cohesive as a result. The first movement is all dark and angry, and I am perfectly fine with that. I am all for dark shows and they can actually be some of my favorite types of shows. Then the second movement seems to be getting lighter and happier. It feels very moving and cascading, and, to me, it feels like it is transitioning the mood of the show to a happier tone, perhaps trying to convey a message of “this couple went through a difficult time but they are good now because love perseveres” or something like that. That seems like a natural progression from their last show, and actually doesn’t contradict the message of 2021. But then, when the closer becomes dark again, it is very confusing and jarring to me because it seems to contradict the entire feel of the ballad, removing any meaning that the show could have had, and instead making the ballad feel out of place, and thrown in just because every show needs to have a ballad. This show, in turn, remains incredible static throughout its entirety, and incredibly formulaic. I think that the idea of a sequel to Edge of Eternity could work, as i described earlier, but the angsty inverse of Edge of Eternity that we got just didn’t work for me. I think the performers did incredibly well with what they had, and performed to the best of their ability, however the highest they were ever going to get with this show was third. I agree with you that bixby had a much better designed, and much more captivating show this year and, in my opinion, was better than BA’s show this year.

@@ChristopherNelson42 I completely agree. Now that OBA is being transfered to Mike Lowery (who I know does not care for BA's advantages) I'm hope for more originality from them and harder competition for first instead of second. I hadn't thought about Over the Edge being a sequel to Edge of Eternity, but it makes sense. I also would like to bring up that this world is so full of negativity. If they were trying to show the hard parts of the relationship they showcased in Edge of Eternity, I would have wanted the ending to be on a more positive note, one that says "you can fight and still make up" but I feel it just undermined everything they had given us in Edge of Eternity. Also, they had some major performance errors while doing semifinals. I saw a trombonist lose their slide and someone lost their hat to the wind, but I think because there was so much going on on the field you were prone to look over them.

If you're going to make that comment about bixby then you should also make the same points against Jenks and Mustang. Marching arts is a highly subjective activity and while there is some objective truth in it, the focus should be on the performance itself. But to say bixby was robbed when, while they did amazing in visuals, were held back slightly by their musical performance. It robs Jenks and Mustang of their own accomplishments as well as the students at Broken arrow. OBA wasn't hosted at broken arrow in 2019, yet they had still won with a decent gap. the judges have been in the music industry for countless decades. Broken arrows shows may not always be the most favorable, but they try to perform the best out of it, as any band does. which is what matters. We should be celebrating every band for their achievements instead of tearing one band down, and unknowingly two others, for the sake of one.

@@iainoam2565 You make good points, but to be completely honest I also did not care for Jenks or Mustangs shows this year so I decided to not bring them into the conversation and I had nothing positive for them. I have not lived in Oklahoma long, in fact last season was my first season, though not my freshman year, so I was unaware of the 2019 location. I think that, while yes, Jenks and Mustang should also have a fair chance, I had nothing innately positive to say about them, so I didn't bring them up as I didn't feel qualified to give them a good enough praise as apposed to my thoughts on Bixby. I think I should rephrase something's. I personally feel that the bands who audition their kids in already have an unfair advantage, that includes Jenks, Mustang, and Bixby. They can pick and choose the best kids and that is because of their size. My school has multiple schools in the district so our band is much smaller compared to these bands and we don't have the type of interest, or we would audition. I was wrong not to bring them up, and I didn't fully articulate my ideas, but I meant what I said

@@marinarameatball I personally have many good things to say about Jenks or mustang, hence why this activity is so subjective. And even if you feel as though there isn't anything to say about those two, it's still not good to leave them out of the conversation. If you wish to bring one band down to bring one band up, simply ignoring those two isn't respectful at all since they also worked for what they got in the judge sheets. The judges have had experience judging for years and know the smallest details to look for, even if I may disagree with them at Nats or state, I don't argue cause I know they know better than I do. Broken arrow will have some advantages in terms of staff, and that's nothing any kid at bixby, or any other band can change. They work well with what they have and for that they deserve praise, but so does everyone else. We need to celebrate and recognize talent and not bring down other groups who happen to have such things. If bixby were in broken arrows position, as long as they have, they'd receive the same criticisms. No matter what someone will have such advantages it is unfortunate. But I try my best to still show support to those who show passion and perseverance. Marion catholic is a prime example of what I love in this activity. Used to be on top but even after falling down they still put so much passion into it even after not being competitively "viable"
