Fellow Calgarian says thanks for the video. Will help me fix my in-laws sync screen after a trip to pick n pull. I used ForScan to mod up my F150 with continuing folding mirrors when you lock the doors and heated seats and heated steering wheel buttons on the sync home screen. ForScan is a very cool tool.

Great video - Just replaced and reprogrammed the APIM in my 2012 Edge with an APIM out of a 2014 Escape! Got all my parts for less than the dealer would have charged to diagnose the issue.

Thank you for the upload. The APIM went out on my 2012 Ford Edge Limited. I bought a $100 Ford F250 APIM off of Ebay and installed it in under 1 hour. I did not need to reprogram the APIM for my SUV. I can now use the radio, adjust the climate, and connect to my phone. The only thing I lost was the navigation. There are extra controls that I have under the climate section that I can not use since my vehicle does not have a heated steering wheel or cooled seats. Overall, I didn't need to bother with a reprograming and was able to use a different APIM to save money. The cheapest APIM I could find for my Edge was ~$500 and instead was able to use one off a different style vehicle. I hope this helps someone else in the same situation!

Yeah, I wanted to learn FORScan so I can re-program my APIM module, because, like you, I found that FORD SUCKS and wont honor the warranty on my 2 1/2 year old APIM module that the Ford dealer installed. Hey great video. Probably going to ask a question you’ve answered already.. here goes: Replaced the apim in my 14 Fusion Titanum and reprogrammed with Forescan using as built data. Problem: touch screen buttons don’t respond and I can’t get the heated seat icons back on the home page. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Also what numbers on the apim identify it so it can be crossed referenced to get the correct replacement. I’m wondering in my case if I purchased the wrong apim. Thanks for indulging my query. JJ

Sync 2 Modules This is just based on what I researched and may not be 100% accurate, but I think it is close. Any of these will work in any car. Model # on front - Number with 14F239 Example: DP5T-14F239-AR First letter has to do with the year - Not sure how the letters work for sure, But I believe It may be a year range of years for the model of car, but this does not matter. Example: D = 2014-2015 Edge, 2015 F150, 2012-2015 Fusion or something like this. The second letter is the model of the vehicle. From what I researched I came up with this. A = Flex / MKT / MKS B = Explorer C = F250 / F350 G = Taurus J = Escape / C-Max / MKC L = F150 / Expedition / Navigator M = Focus P = MKZ R = Mustang S = Fusion T = Edge / MKX This also does not matter if you are reprogramming the AIPM module with FORScan. Because you are overwriting all the functions with the ones from your vehicle. But if you are looking for a match, and you might not have to re-program it. Then this list may help. Also: You can swap Ford with Lincoln without worrying about the startup Splash Screen being correct if you program with FORScan. The code will be changed to the correct Brand. If you are not reprogramming then buy one out of a Ford or Lincoln to match your car. The startup Splash Screen files are in the APIM Module. The Splash Screen is based on the Brand coded into the APIM APIM 7D0-01-02 ?xxx xxxx xxxx 0 = Ford, 8 = Lincoln, C = Configurable (Don’t know about the configurable) The other number on the back of the unit Example: DA5T-14D212-RB The first letter has to do with the year of manufacture So If you have a B you can use a D (This is what I did) B = 2012 C = 2013 D = 2014 E = 2015 F = 2016

Well I was hoping for the rebuild video. Cheapest APIM I can source is $200. I’ve looked at the boards and see nothing wrong. Only thing I noticed is the small board that attaches to the heatsink/case has multiple thermal pads. The side facing the heatsink has no clear film attached, the side facing the chips have a clear film attached to the thermal pad. I can’t find much on how this works. But is it possible that the film causes a break between the thermal pad and chip causing a thermal dissipation issue?

Great video but as I understand if I can’t find an APIM with matching P/N getting one with the same Base Number should be fine as long as I can get it programmed for my vehicle?

I got a Sync 3 update for my Lincoln MKX 2011 that original came with a Sync 2, everything seems to be working but every time that the system turns on it gives me a message " Your *911 emergency service is not working go to the dealer to get it fix" so it's very annoying. The guy that sold it to me tells me the following: You can use Forscan to program RCM module 02-01 Xxxx （X to 8), but I don't have how to do that, any advice how to do that? THANKS.

In forescan on my 18 fusion…I am not seeing the APIM module listed. I’m suspecting it’s bricked or just took a dump. All I see for audio is the ACM. Is there something I’m missing? No DTCs detected either and the ACM test passes

Do you believe any used Ford APIM that looks the same as mine regardless of the model car or year can be reprogrammed to work using FORScan? My son has a 2014 ford focus and the battery kept draining. the dealership said it is the radio. that we need a new interface control module for $1400 😳. does this mean he needs a new APIM? im trying to figure out how we can do this ourselves. any help is appreciated

Hi. I've watched and rewatched the vid several times and the procedure seemed simple enough but it doesn't seem to be working for me. I have a 12 Edge and bought a used APIM. The screen fired up okay, but I have no radio or climate control functions and the touch screen is kind of wacky, so I figured I needed to reprogram it by restoring the as-built data for my vehicle. I plugged in the OBDII and connected and watched it read all of my vehicle's settings, then I made a backup of the APIM config. I select Load All and I see the abt for my vehicle as well as the backup that I made. I've tried selecting both of those files. In either case, it says operation completed successfully then I select Write All. It looks like it works okay, but when I turn off and back on my ignition as prompted, nothing changes. It looks like it's working fine, but there's no functionality on my screen. It's quite possible that I'm doing something wrong, but if so I don't know what it would be. Any ideas?

Is there any way to tell if the APIM vs the LCD screen is the faulty component? I cracked my sync 2 screen and the screen wouldnt turn on at all, just stay black. So I bought a replacement LCD off ebay, plugged it in and it turns on just like normal. Adjusting the radio on the steering wheel is reflected on the sync display screen, and even the backup camera turns on when I reverse. The only problem is the only responsive part of the touch screen is when i press the bottom right. Tapping anywhere else on the screen does nothing, but everytime I tap that spot it just takes me to the sync my phone display. Going to try unhooking the battery because I’ve read that can help reset the electronics but wondering if you have any ideas in how to fix it. Will be pretty stoked if I get it to work because the dealership wanted to charge out the ass to fix it but the replacement screen was like $80 on ebay lol

Excellent video! I just had the same issue happen and Ford told me it'd be an 1800$ fix! Luckily one of the collision shops in town has a bunch of these APIMs sitting around, but told me there was a high failure rate. He recommended that I just plug em in to the car, and see which one works, and then just pay for the one that does. Quick question -- prior to all the reprogramming/FORSCAN business, if I were to connect up a new APIM, will the screen at least turn on, so I know that it works? I can take it home then and do all the reprogramming!

Just curious... what the part number of the replacement? I have BM5T-14D212-JF. I can see your broken APIM has a similar part number. Do you know which one I could replace mine with? Or can I just throw in ANYONE? thanks in advance.

Hello, I am a diy'er nurse (definitely not a car mechanic) trying to save the $1600 quote to fix the apim on my son's 2011 ford f150. I purchased a module with the same base numbers, got the OBD reader, ForScan subscription, went through the steps and nothing. I found another module on ebay that had exact numbers beyond the base numbers hoping I could just plug that in, but still not working. Anyone have ideas why this might not be working for me? I have not removed the battery cable as some have recommended. Otherwise, followed the instructions and written the as built codes "successfully' but it is still not working. Error codes do indicate the APIM is faulty, so I feel like I'm trying to fix the correct thing, but stuck. Any tips appreciated GREATLY!!!

Has anyone one done this successfully lately? I can't seem to get on to the FORscan forum. It keeps telling me my password is wrong. When I do forgot password and drop the one in that they send me it still does't work. The board administrator page has been disabled also...

So I have a Lincoln mks with sync my touch and when talking to Lincoln, they say the data is proprietary data and cannot be downloaded. The dealer wants $1600 to fix it but it just needs to be reprogrammed. Any ideas on where to download it?

I bought a used 2015 ford escape..only had it for two years..i bought the electronic extended warranty but for some reason this issue that i'm having (need to replace my APIM) doesn't cover this. This will cost me $1000 to fix. I don't have that kind of money...I came across your video..and i'm hoping I will be able to fix my car without having to go to the dealership..my father is pretty good with computers and I may be able to get help..Any extra tips you may throw at me , I would appreciate it. thank you again for sharing!

The same thing happened on my 2012 Focus. Sometimes it will crash with the gradient showing in the background and desktop.exe shutting down. This will be my first and last Ford product. If I had this issue in a F150 I know Ford Canada would bend over backwards to fix it.

So if your stock APIM is out, can you reprogram it without buying another one?

NOW IT IS GIVING AN ERROR MESSAGE IN 2 MODULES, APIM AND IPC, WITH ERROR CODES U0212 AND U0155. I took the car today at the authorized Ford and they were unable to repair it. THEY REPROGRAMMED BUT IT DIDN'T RESOLVE. YOU KNOW HOW TO TELL ME WHAT MAY HAVE HAPPENED. THANK YOU.

Hi can you tell me if when replacing a backup camera on a 2012 ford Edge does the camera have to be programmed to the APIM or does it just plug into it? My backup camera was working fine till I had ford replace my APIM and now My camera don't work for some reason. They are now telling me My camera needs to be replaced and want to charge me a little over 700.00 dollars!! I'm hoping I can buy a camera and have my husband replace it if it don't need programming. Wow.. All that work!!! I have a FOrd escape 2011 .. we bought it new back then and I've never used the Blue Tooth Sync for media. I normally plug my ipod and listen to music but I got a new iphone and figured out how to sync it blue tooth so music from the phone plays.. It worked fine for a month.. until yesterday , the music wouldn't play through the car speakers .. it came up blue tooth media stream and no sound. Everything else works. Just weird. Any ideas? I have a 2016 Ford Explorer Platinum and having the same issue. I've done everything on the web that is recommended. It's time to replace the APIM. Just having a hard time finding one. Anyway you could or someone could write up or make a video with set by step process ? Or provided links to videos from taking the faulty APIM out to down loading the software and then uploading it to the new APIM. Thanks in advance for all the help. I cant afford to go thru the dealer to fix this. I'm a disabled vet just trying to make things work.

Good gravy, prices on these things now several hundred $ on ebay 😩 just bought a 2015 escape from some old folks who I assume never tried to use the Bluetooth and didn't realize the system was jacked up. Can't even get into any form of Bluetooth pairing menu at all. PHONE button does nothing, voice button does nothing, SYNC Phone menu option does nothing. Gaaaahhh

Everything went well, but the screen buttons are having problems after the replacement and reprogramming with the as built file. I guess the APIM has retained the boneyard APIM programming. When I go to write the as built data, it says no changes are being made. Mine went out at 34k miles and less than 4 years old. Definitely junk vehicles made by Ford. Of course, have a friend that bought a brand-new 2021 Ram and hers went out after a month. So, anyone that thinks they can do a better job outsourced than we could insourced, realize that's just blatantly false.
