@jasonmushersee i gave up markers the GPS is the only way to plant no overlap on beans wheat or any hay crop the fertilizer is spot on with it we stilll use foam on the sprayer but thats it in the long run the old way costs to much in overlap and over aplied product $2500 for the unit is $10000 in my pocket every year i use it.

Just put two new clutches on my 8 row JD 7000 this spring. Our dealership had them on hand for us. The new clutches made a huge difference in our spacing and stand of the crop.

Congratulations! I love your home made fixes. I award you the Order, Summa Cum Laude, of Corn Planter Repairman First Class, with Oak Leaves, and a Bells and Whistles Cluster. You would do fine in the Starfleet Engineers Program. You could probably also teach Deere a thing or 2 about how farmers actually USE this equipment, and hence need it to be reliable!

As is often the case, one broken thing leads to the discovery of another bad thing that just hadn't surfaced its head yet. You have the tenacity to keep dealing with it until you overcome it.

Great job sounds almost like a marriage can't live with it and can't live with out it looks like JD would make there dealers carry at a small selection af parts in order to repair there equipment that the farmers have bought good luck in the rest or the season.

You think thats bad, my neighbor welded those clutch ends together! So on the end rows it was always putting out seed! lol. I've replaced tons of those every farm i worked at and they are a pain but our local JD dealership stocks all these parts because everybody around here has JD. The JD 7200 has a shitty little 5/16 shear bolt on the marker hinge so every time it hits a rock it breaks & the marker drags behind the planter. JD make very good equipment but their planters have little gremlins.

I hate it when the dealer doesn't carry simple parts. I needed a half moon key for the steering arm on my IH 806 and be damned if my local dealer could come up with one.

The corn farmers buy for seed is a hybrid seed corn. It's the product of a cross between two inbred corn lens. In fairly simple terms, the hybrid seed gets the best of both of the inbreds. The seed harvested could be planted, but the yield would be way down, since it wouldn't be a hybrid. If you want to learn more, you can google history of hybrid corn.
