It's not illegal to use your phone while cycling

@@skinnyergs legality has nothing to do with it. It's about safety. If it's not safe to use your phone in a car it's certainly not safe to use one riding a bike. In fact the worst are those who wear ear phones whilst cycling, who think that the sound of Adele is more important than the sound of the truck bearing down on you from behind.

I am a cyclist (NOT drop handle bars) and get equally furious when theses guys arrogantly ride two or more abreast. Like bad drivers who give drivers a bad name, equally, they give cyclists a bad name.

And ineffective: for all those sins, they kill 0 people in traffic every year, around the planet, while drivers of typical American trucks, even when (occasionally) driving legally, still kill a lot of people, directly through accidents and indirectly through pollution, just because of how awesome and deadly the vehicle is.

@@florinadrian5174 - I live in Burgas Bulgaria, a 15 minute city where cycling is the norm, walking, scooters but suddenly there is a trend among young men to import an American pick up truck. They are INSANITY sized things and I hope they get banned soon, they cause total chaos and mayhem, our streets are used by everyone from mothers with pushchairs to people in wheelchairs and its just pandemonium as people are trying to help disabled people onto the pavement as one massive w4nker drives a 3 ton pickup truck down the street taking up both sides of the road. Im a 5'8" 173cm guy, the bonnet on these things cones up to my neck. The majority of women and lower than the bonnet. I have no idea how they are legal on a normal driving licence. They have a front and rear blind spot of about 8m

They are legal under the American law in a perverse way because they were classified as professional, work vehicles and thus exempted from safety requirements of normal civilian cars. But then the car industry discovered that they are making much more profit selling these monsters than a sedan and they kept marketing them like crazy. The fossil fuel bastards love them because they consume a lot and thus they joined the marketing and PR with their unlimited funds. And now they came to Europe. Seriously? I mean really seriously? Cyclists a minority group with no voice? You mean the ones that lobbied Newcastle Council to spend millions on a cycle lane they don't use? And what about the consultation on the Hierarchy of Road Users? Remember that? Where the government thought that the opinion of a cycle club consisting of 10 people carried the same weight as Stobart Haulage. (A hierarchy which I now note most cyclists ignore when it comes to pedestrians). Oh, and I can't seem to come on here without tripping over the channel of some holier than thou, lycra clad 🔔🔚posting videos of poor driving whilst cycling through a red light. I'm not anti cyclist. I have one myself. I'm anti cyclists who believe they have more right to the road than everyone else - and this is what this video is aimed at.

@@imSatnav the whole point is they have no unified public identity to hit back with. Its not about cycling, its about attacking a group of people (ANY group of people) making fun of them to get laughs out of people who are not them. It “others” whole groups of people and encourages division and hate. These guys are smart enough to know this.

As someone who moved from a car to a bike this year I still had a chuckle. Only thing I would say is that there is a difference between those who spend crazy money on bikes for high speed aerodynamic road cycling and those who just want to go shopping or get somewhere in safety without having to drive all the time. Also cyclists thankfully do have a voice (there's quite a lot of active travel and cycling campaign groups).

@@josephfredbill Hold on. If they have no unified identity how can they be a group? Because by the very dint of being a group gives people a unified identity. If they are not a group then how can people attack them as a group? And no it doesn't create hate and division. This video is aimed fairly and squarely at a particular sub set of cyclists who behave like entitled w⚓s. Now that is nothing to do with the fact that they are cyclists, but more to do with the fact that they are, on the whole, full time entitled w⚓s who happen to be part-time cyclists.

​@imSatnav We. If you ARE a cyclist I think you mean we. That's the problem. I normally love the guys. But this feeds the narrative that 'we' is binary and that gives agency to behavior on both "sides" which doesn't end well. The roads are routes of passage for all, anyone using them, including Jeremy Vine or haulage companies or pedestrians should be constantly vigilant and respect the other users regardless of what the legal or perceived rights are.

I've got a challenge for you, if you're brave enough to accept it: The next week, preferably a month but i don't think you're strong enough, try to bike everywhere you can. Find out what the rules are in your council with regards to where you're supposed to cycle, because some want you to share the road/footpath & like to change things up every street about halfway, just for shits 'n giggles, to make things more difficult. Now, when you've done this please report back after you've hauled the shopping, brought the children to school, rode to work, the pub & the hairdresser & say how easy your local council made everything, because then i would like to know where you live & if it's affordable.
