Wow, good for you for being so brave! I’m very close to your age and I didn’t come out to my family until like 1998 or 1999. I had been openly gay in my friends circle since college, but I didn’t come out to my (ultra-religious) family until I brought home my first really serious boyfriend. It ended up being a non-issue and I wish I had come out years earlier.

I still wouldn't have come out. My parents and grandparents were very strait-laced and religious. My dad used various insults to describe gay men. Having said that, in his older years, I bought him a book, a crime novel for his birthday. He remarked that there were gay men amongst the characters. I didn't know. I now wonder whether he thought I was hinting about my sexuality. He didn't seem bothered, but I was oblivious to the content of the book, it was by an author I thought he liked

Well, didn't know any of them but, I found myself congratulating them! Coming out was hard, back in the day, especially when it was illegal to be a male homosexual (lesbians were not declared under law). And religion put you in Hell and would excomnunicate you if made public denouncements of religious law bigotry. So, having religion against gays, and the law, it was no surprise gays were hated by the general public. Things are a lot bettér for youth these days, but, things can change for the worse, depending on who is in power in government. Take careful note American brothers and sisters! VOTE FOR THE RIGHT GUY!!!❤

Not sure about the USA but Lesbianism was never illegal in the UK and the Empire. This was because when the Act was presented to Queen Victoria for the Royal Assent she refused to sign it. She would not accept that women could be gay and engage in sexual acts with those of their own gender.

Right, we shouldn't care about other people's sexuality. Yet young people may find some comfort in such a video, esp. when you consider that homophobic slurs are often used in everyday language. Likewise, gay prides would be unnecessary if gay people were treated just like everybody else, i.e. more respectfully.

Why do homosexuals need to come out? Do heterosexuals need to come out? Do we need to come out with something else like opinions, attitudes, or whatever etc? As long as hetero or homosexuals are careful in terms of not getting any diseases or hurting anyone or themselves, I fully support any human being! Some people are scared of differences and thus there is so much hate in this world.
@hummingbirdcity
@hummingbirdcity 22 күн бұрын
Primarily because heterosexuality is biologically normal (not synonymous with "good" or "right") and historically, homosexuality has been regarded more often as "evil" or "wrong" than as the "no big deal" situation many view it as today. So, the act of coming out remains an affirmation of acceptance and a release of anxiety, moreso for the person coming out than for those who are being informed.
@balbijanic

@@hummingbirdcity You cannot change other people and you should not have hope to change anyone for anything. People do change when they want to change. Some people come out to be accepted but this is possible in some cases but not all cases. I don't want to come out of how much money I have or what are my plans. If I do, I have to be ready for the consequences, and I don't want.

@UniDocs_Mahapushpa_Cyavana
@UniDocs_Mahapushpa_Cyavana 15 күн бұрын
@@hummingbirdcity Is it though? I see humans as being born with 2 sexualities. 1 an *extremely powerful* mental illusion generated by their Unconscious, which attempts to pair off people to maximise the children of the tribe. 1 their real one. When children are subject to modern, intense, mandatory education 🏫 it makes them experience *true stress,* which is when they are forced to perform above their capabilities. True stress causes the mind to reinvent itself and reprioritise to try and keep up with what is demanded from it. As it cannot achieve it in its current state. True stress naturally increases with education 🎓 intensity, because making the children be more capable is *literally the entire point.* Thus, the true stress causes the extremely powerful illusion sexuality to shatter (the one which tries to maximise the children 👶👶👶👶👶👶 of the tribe). Then their real one becomes dominant (straight, gay, bi, asexual, etc.). The illusionary sexuality made by the Unconscious is extremely difficult to make (humans take it for granted because humans are naturally ungrateful), so the Unconscious (see Dual Process Theory) does not even try to remake it. Thus, making the change permanent, even if the children become de-stressed later. ------------------------------------------- So I don't think what is biologically normal even is true heterosexuality. For example, if the Unconscious predicts a man being celibate will maximise the tribe's children, it will stop him being attracted to women. That is probably why they are so many deranged men who think they are heterosexual but cannot tolerate the presence of a woman. And throw a temper tantrum when around them. The Unconscious will only let them be attracted to women in theory. Never in practice.
