Just discovered the interview today 10/16/2021---It actually took place 40 years ago. It's great seeing the young actors, at the time and Franco Zeffirelli. Martin Hewitt is now in his 60's and if Brook Shields was 16, she would be 56 now. Yes, the interviewer was very grating on the nerves, but since it was 40 years ago, I will put it in it's proper place. Ancient History.

Brooke Shields seemed quite level headed in this interview for a 16 y/o. She seems to understand showbiz better than Hewitt. The interviewer is very annoying...almost as if she was channeling best Barbra Walters. I do admit Endless Love is not easy to watch.I had to watch it in 20 minute increments. It’s has lots of uncomfortable confrontational scenes that don’t seem like thing’s could get worse but continues to worsen every 20 minutes till the end. It’s really a tragic love story.

I think Brooke was on the right path, but nevertheless thinking "Because I genuinely believe it, it must be right", is not a mature attitude. One has to be self-validating, you always have something to learn from your elders or even peers. For a person to grow, you cannot believe that because you're passionate about something it becomes the truth. I've seen many people fall regret that was once very passionate about the subject. Personally, I know sex happens at that age, I don't question biology, I question the mind and the ability to make decisions. These rules made by parents are not to impede on your biology, it's meant to protect you from your own mind. How do you know you're doing the right thing? Well, either you don't care, or you ping for hindsight or perhaps rely on common sense. Brooke said one thing good here, "It's different for each person". But what the director says is that everyone should do it. Regret is a very dangerous feeling... Some could escalate to the point of complete mental breakdown. My conclusion is there's nothing wrong with listening to your parents, waiting till you reach 21 or 20, and then making your own *educated* choices. You're not missing out. In fact, I'd argue, you're saving yourself a lot of issues. You say the experiences help you grow? Well, what's wrong with growing by means of observation and inherited experience? Anyways, how did this get so philosophical xD, -i think- I think so many in the comment were talking about how beautiful and smart she is, and she definitely is, they forgot there was a philosophical conversation going on haha.

Shields was so professional and poised for that age. I still think even before this unfortunate time of wokeness the interviewer asked a few unusually explicit questions. Especially for a sixteen year old. Shields if she saw this interview today would probably cringe. It always amazed me how Shields with her talent and beauty was not able to be that big of a star as an adult actress. I'm beginning to think due to the intensity and adult themes associated with many of her childhood and teen films a toll had been taken on her psychologically. She has actually taken some crazy roles as an adult though in more indie movies like Freeway and Black and White. It was fun to see her with a young Reese Witherspoon as pedophile Keifer Sutherland's suffering wife. Actually Freeway has a seen in it in which Shields does something very destructive and out of character for Shields wholesome, IRL anyway, image. Maybe one of the weirdest things she ever did was for TV in The Stalking Of Laura Black I think it was called. Which involved another kind of story of obsession by of all people Richard (John Boy Walton) Thomas. Playing an an office co-worker who can't get over the newest girl hired by his company. When his love for her is unrequited he takes drastic measures. For a tv movie, I remember it's not only very well made and intense but in addition to Shields, Thomas performance in it is to say the least very chilling. I was never a big fan of The Waltons growing up, in fact I was to young to appreciate it. But still considering how I remember the heartthrob Shields was and beloved the John Boy character was to tv fans back then it was still very strange to see those two together onscreen. Staker and victim or not, lol. I remember thinking Shields was pretty I suppose when I was in my teens and and she was in her twenties God knows how many times I saw The Blue Lagoon on HBO growing up. Maybe not yet being conscious of how risque the themes of it were as a kid. I never even realized Brooke Shields was Italian American until I saw her on an Ancestry.com special a few years back. Now I get why many men and even some women saw her looks as unique and maybe a little exotic. I think going back Shields and maybe Diane Lane in movies like Six Pack were my first prepubescent crushes, lol. Had a thing for Robin Lively too. All women now in their fifties who have for the most part aged gracefully. I remember seeing Brooke S. in the 90s on tv when I was in college and thinking, God, she's still as gorgeous as when I was a kid and although she might be starting to age somewhat Shields is still a very attractive middle aged woman.
@MrRight1000
@MrRight1000 Жыл бұрын
Brooke was so gorgeous as a teen that public expected that she would remain as beautiful as an adult. She grew up an attractive lady, but a great beauty she no longer was. Could she find a different niche for herself as she matured? I doubt it. Her acting skills were fine, but remained underdeveloped. In fact she writes about it in her book "The Real Story of My Mother and Me".

This interviewer was rude in her questions to Brooke, Franco and Martin regarding the film. Making them all feel awkward. Practically interrogating them. The actors are each playing a role and in character. It doesn't define who they are as a person and their beliefs. This movie wasn't about sex or promiscuity. It centered on two young people who loved each other. Surprised they didn't all walk out sooner. Needs to be better trained in PR.

OMG what an old prude. Okay it was 1981, but still, she was way behind the times and dressed like it. She's from Texas, the bible belt. She is still alive, believe it or not. 95 years old as of my post. Never had children. Not surprised.

The movie director is so right when saying that there is no age to express love, Juliet was 13 and she was not judged ever .. nowadays people would portray that as Pedophilia, ugh what a sad sad sad world are we living in today ?? ..
@UltimoDogLover
@UltimoDogLover Жыл бұрын
That was fiction, and both children still died. The world was not actually a better place when people were getting married at 15. No one said pedophilia either. Pedophilia is an adult with a child. A child with a child is puppy love, and that's where it should stay. Teenagers have so much growth and experience left to do. It's a very rare person that's equipped to nurture and provide for a child at that age.

Wow, right in the beginning, Martin being kind of rude there. Shushes Brooke making an innocent side comment, and Brooke gives him a mean look, but quickly goes back to smiling. Kind of awkward. Martin seemed controlling in that very moment. I’m gonna say this isn’t the first time that part of Martin’s personality came out. Probably came out many times during filming.

Endless Love was a horror movie imo. Ultra liberal parents raising this daughter to have her boyfriend sleep over every night even on school nights as long as it is under their roof. The movie was an entire freak show. I did love the movie but it terrified me.

Would you recommend watching it? Brooke told decades later that the filmmaker was hurting her during the sex scenes to make her look more realistic while she was pretending to orgasm. It sounds really creepy and abusive!

@@Analysis_Paralysis It’s a really good movie and worth watching but odd as hell. The actor who plays her older brother (James Spader) is the only normal person in the movie.

I agree with another's comment that this interviewer went over the line. She had sex on the brain and completely ignored the message of the movie - plus asking Brooke about what she does personally is rude. This interviewer may as well be wearing a nun costume! Either that or she never fell in love as a teenager. 🙄 And when are we going to stop pretending teenagers don't have sex? He was showing what DOES happen, he wasn't saying necessarily it SHOULD be what teenagers engage in. Zefferelli's points are understandable. I'm actually shocked as upset as he seemed to be that he didn't say how about we focus on the story - which was all about love, not sex. I feel this film was not only beautifully shot, but the feeling it gave me - which is one of love. Love between two teenagers, but also the family's love for each other as well. The sex between David and Jade came from that love - which IS the way it should be (as opposed to other movies of that time such as Fast Times at Ridgemont High, or Porkys - which showed sex without love). But the sex scenes in Endless love were not gratuitous or graphic (to use Zefferelli's word) or even exploitive IMO. I'm a bit younger than Brooke and didn't see this movie until I was probably 18 or 19. I've seen it maybe 5x since and regardless of how I've changed or matured, I've never changed my opinion on it. This interviewer came from a more repressed generation where love was often (or moreso) a lucky happenstance if it accompanied a marriage, but maybe not the catalyst for marriage. Marriage to her was probably about financial security and procreation, and a world before the pill and legal abortion. But Brooke and myself come from a different time and view - a view that says you can be expressive in a sexual way IF that's your choice as a teenager or adult. As Zefferelli was trying to say - this movie wasn't porn, and it wasn't as nonchalant about sex among teenagers as those other movies I mentioned, it was about two people deeply in love.
