In the music video for "Unchained Melody", The late Bobby Hatfield (the blond-haired singer in the duo) sings the song for a TV show in 1965 (most likely on "The Andy Williams Show" on NBC, which broadcast most of its programs in color at that time). Fortunately, both members of the Righteous Brothers were alive when they were inducted into the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame.

Bill Medley is 79 and is still performing if you can believe that.. He and his daughter did some shows together and do "Time of my life" as a duet together. Bobbie Hatfield died in 2003. What amazes most people I talk wih is that all the singing was done with just some amps and not enhancements like echo, reverb, auto tuners or any other "tricks" to enhance the experience. My parents knew both men from their high school days as both went to the same schools, Mom went to Anaheim High and Dad Santa Anna High and said they were just as impressive back in the day as what you see now in the vid.

Here's a little bit if info about them for you. The Righteous Brothers were originally an American duo of Bill Medley and Bobby Hatfield. They began performing together in 1962 in Los Angeles as part of a five-member group called The Paramours, but adopted the name "The Righteous Brothers" when they embarked on their recording career as a duo. Their most active recording period was in the 1960s and 70s, and although the duo was inactive for some years, Hatfield and Medley reunited in 1981 and continued to perform until Hatfield's death in 2003. Their emotive vocal style is sometimes dubbed 'Blue-Eyed Soul'. Bill (the one with the deeper singing voice) is still with us and is 79 years old, Bobby passed away in 2003 from a Heart Attack apparently brought on due to taking drugs. Apparently he had heart problems already which contributed to his death. If you have ever heard the Dirty Dancing soundtrack before and heard a song called Time of my Life, Bill was the male vocalist on that track. Sadly Bill had some tragedy in his life too, when his ex wife and thr mother of his children was murdered and it was only very recently that they thankfully found the murderer. I love your reactions, great video. Could you please react the The Righteous Brothers performing Soul and Inspiration, it's a great performance which I'm sure you'll love.

They were part of a 5 man group, then became a duo..A black marine saw/was in awe of their soulful show & said "That's righteous, bros" & the name stuck..Then they were called "blue-eyed soul" (white artists who "sounded black") & were starting to get played on soul/r&b radio stations, cuz they were sooo good! They became big stars (yet so humble), had soo many hits, but this one became the most played/covered song of the 20th century!😊 My favorite is "You're My Soul & My Heart's Inspiration" (...you're all I need to get me by...)..It's beeeoootiful!!🔥🔥

After all these years, I still get chills when I hear this song ❤️ 💚 💙 💜 Few Fun Facts: They got their name from some black marines who saw them perform as the “Paramours” in 1963 & they shouted, “that was righteous brothers!” Also, the infamous Cher was part of the backing vocals, before she became famous, & last but not least, heir manager booked them into a black nightclub in Watts, California before they got big, & the patrons of the club started throwing things at them on stage when they saw they were white, & The Righteous Brothers didn't know what to do, so they just started singing, & all the patrons sat down with their mouths open, & wouldn't let them leave after that, & the term, Blue Eyed Soul, was born 😃 👓 👓 😃

I saw this duo 3 times back in the day. In those days performers respected their audiences, dressed well and clean for the audiences, and gave a show for the audiences. Performers also respected the women and men they were singing the love song about, and songs were about relationships between each other, not the act itself. Try this duo singing "(You're My) Soul And Inspiration", try Bobby Hadfield doing "Unchained Melody", and Bill Medley doing "Brown Eyed Woman". Here's the live audio version from this show, which I saw back then on TV: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/ZpmZhribrce5qI0.html. Unfortunately Bobby Hadfield is no longer with us, but Bill Medley is still performing at the ripe age of 79 years young.

They were not actual brothers but both grew up in Orange County, California which is just south of Los Angeles. They sang what was, at that time, soul ( read Black ) music when Whites and Black races were often segregated from each other in much of the United States. This is before the civil rights movement of Martin Luther King and others to fight and literally die for equal rights for persons of color. In California there was not as much racism as it many other parts of our nation. They would sing for integrated audiences and there is a very large United States Marine Corp Base in Orange County. The Black Marines would come to their show and they would say “ that song was righteous man”. White did not use that slang, they would say “ Cool”, but the Blacks would say something is “righteous” is they really liked it. Much of that comes from the Southern Baptist Church that many Blacks grew up going to on Sundays. So they decided to name themselves The Righteous Brothers and went on to have several big hit songs. Bill Medley sang the lower parts, Bobby Hatfield was more of a tenor. Hatfield is now dead but Medley is still alive. He must be close to 80 I would guess.

cosmicVox13 That is true to a large extent but segregation was de facto in cities such as Boston, MA, Detroit, MI, and in places such as Kansas City, KS. It was not by law, deJure, but in fact these areas not in the South had ways of zoning schools to make it very unlikely that the races would attend school together. I grew up in NOVA in the 1970’s and there was a ton of Sh** hitting the fan when they decided that the Whites from Francis Hammond and George Washington high schools were going to attend TC Williams with the majority Black enrollment. Thank God The football team went undefeated and won the State Championship and it drew the school together. Remember The Titans! Even in 1973 I was on the basketball team and a game against JEB Stuart HS had to be cancelled due to a race fight at the school just after lunch. That school is now named Justice HS as they slowly take away the names of schools after Confederate army hero’s.

Sharing it with people is how I’ve often related to others and opened new conversations and conveyed emotions. Jayne Hayward The more I listened, I narrowed it down to either Liverpudlian and Geordie, but I was closer than the average Yank regardless lol

I must be watching you guys too much, I am understanding about every other word now, sometimes a whole sentence at a time. LOL Loved your reaction to this, guys. I grew up on this, born in 1962, so my Mom & Dad listened to this all the time for years.

Guys, funny as hell,as the saying goes, the US and Great Britain are two countries separated buy by a common language. I understood about 1/3 of what you said. Born in 1955, I grew up with this but seeing many of these reaction videos, didn't appreciate it until now. Thanks. Got a sub.

Performers are best listened to unseen. If we were all blind, skin color would have no influence. The gift of sight is also a curse. Judging by skin color just ruins everything. Listen with your soul.

With good reason. There are some songs--not many, but some--that you just NEVER tire of hearing, even though you know the words, the music, the orchestration, the arranging, everything, by heart. This is mine. I've heard this song thousands of times since it came out in 1965--I was 17--and I have yet to tire of it.-.It's imply perfect.

I like your comments. You two young lads sound like my dad, and he is 81. I say that because he says that back in the day, performers ‘respected’ their audience by dressing in tuxedos.

You guys have the strongest Scouse accents I've ever heard! Just about decipherable to me, a Southerner, but I doubt that Americans would understand a word! Anyway, glad you appreciate class music from the era I grew up in, the 60's.

American here. Took a couple minutes, but I understand them fine now. It's all about how often you're used to adjusting your ear for accents.

Warms this old heart of mine to see you youngsters enjoying the classics...especially fellow scousers. Do yourself a favour and listen to 'unchained melody' by them and soul and inspiration. Just subscribed.

As you probably already know they were not actual brothers. The blonde, Bobby Hatfield and the tall guy, Bill Medley were known as "Blue-eyed Soul". If you've ever watched the movie Dirty Dancing, the big song at the end is sung by Bill Medley and Jennifer Warnes. When I watch it on KZfaq, I like to watch the movie version with Patrick Swayze and Jennifer Grey so I hear the amazing song and see the amazing dancing. It's awesome!

This was the most played song of the 20th Century. Also in the movie Top Gun. Another song " Unchained Melody" in the movie Ghost with Whoopie , Swayze and Demi Moore.
