Brother J grabbed my attention when I was young, in 1990 with To The East Backwards. I jammed that tape daily while cutting grass and after school on my headphones. After forgetting about the group over the years, it hit me, where's X-Clan? Brother J, Public Enemy, Rakim and BDK molded my mind into who I am today. Peace.

Shit, back when they all were really getting started in this hip hop thing, you had Dr. John H. Clarke, Dr. Amos Wilson, Dr. Yosef Ben Jochannan, Dr. Leonard Jeffries, and many, many more scholars speaking the truth on WLIB in NYC. Even earlier than this our scholars were on TV shows such as Like It Is with Gil Noble.

kcire10 10 That is so correct. As a kid, I would hear or see these people because of my mother blasting it through the house(as well as her Jazz music). I was a typical knuckleheaded kid not interested in such topics, however, those names and topics we're ingrained into my memory. As an adult, especially in these trying times, it all comes full circle listening to the old elders of the past as well as the new elders for their vital information on our community. It's a beautiful thing. Thanks again mom.
