This second interview was even better than the first! This is why you are both role models to me, which I understand neither of you want but accept. However, your growth is my growth and this is why I chose you both AS my role models. Because I only wanna grow into the person that I am always becoming. Which is something you both constantly represent and teach to me. You amazing dudes keep me on the path by doing your best to stay on the path. Bless and ONE LOVE!! Since I was a kid I’ve loved Atmosphere and after hearing Mikey and diving into his discography , it all feels sort of like a warm hug . He has a lasting impression on his listeners that not a lot of people can invoke. It is amazing to hear you both speak about him and let alone just speak to each other . I feel like I am sitting in on my two brothers having a conversation at the kitchen table haha . As an only child of 15 years , I feel that it is very important to have role models such as you two . Keep doing what you do Ali , it makes us proud . Much love ❤️

This was one helluva conversation. Thank you for what you do. The first time I saw both of you was at Nalen in Stockholm back in 2011. I remember Slug shaking hands with everyone lining to get in. That really threw me. He's quite intimidating in person, tall man. Shook his hand and blurted out You're My Hero. Ever since I've felt weird about saying that. But you know, I spoke from the heart. So, much love to you, my hero. And Brother Ali, you're dope as hell too. I hope it's okay with you that I've put you in a local novel I'm writing. About guy who finds his way through hiphop. Peace and Love.

In the intro and outro you speak with so much poise. The kind of mindful, reflective speaking that comes from a wise elder. As in music, sometimes you connect with the words and sometimes you connect with the delivery. Just hearing you speak is calming, a tone and vibe so different than what I experience in my daily life. Thanks for that gift, love you Ali.

Heard about Mikey first, then atmosphere. Mikey and slug were judging an emcee battle then performing so went to check it out (sage was there too but I didn't know him yet). Most people left after the battle and my friend and I stayed to see them. I was blown away. I was like, this is the music I would make if I made music. It just connected. Then saw them every time they came through and that's how I first heard you. I guess in the same way Sean had that cassette with Aesop on it. It just created a web that kept expanding like the universe. Just opened up a whole new world of music. Forever grateful for seeing that flyer saying Eyedea and Atmosphere. I still have the flyer and a little piece of paper I asked Mikey to sign. When I asked him to sign it he was laughing and he was like are you serious? I was like yeah man, then he signed it 'eyedea is wack -eyedea' and I still have that too haha. It's been a journey.

Love both these guys. I remember when I was in New York on holiday(from the UK , following January after 9/11) . And some guy was selling ripped hip hop CDs on a side street. I brought a CD off him called rhymesayers for $2. Best hip-hop music I have ever listened too. When I got back to the UK and played it to my friends they also became fan's. Then KZfaq introduced me to Brother Ali , eyedea etc. If it wasn't for that guy selling ripped music I wouldn't be here commenting on this video...crazy.

Here's the follow up comment from part 1. Thank you so much for putting this out there. Thank you both. I can't express how hard the part about eyedea hit me. I dont wanna pity party, but I'd like to share how rhymesayers got me through one of my hardest struggles. I'd lost everything in a couple months and was homeless. At that time I had burn fetish and by the throat (the song off the same named album) basically on repeat. I felt his struggle and hurt, his depression and despair, and that little bit of hope that lived under even his darkest stuff. As things got a little better I moved on to pressure cracks by grieves, none shall pass by Alsop, and Virgo by atmosphere. When things got a little better than that it was sunny side of hell by grieves, self taught by you, and some music from another artist (intuition and equilibrium, hes great if you haven't heard). I remember knowing things were finally okay when I reconnected with forest Whitaker by you and sunshine by atmosphere. I couldn't ever repay you all for what you gave me through a pair of headphones or my car speakers but I'd like to take a moment to thank you personally for helping me through that. You two chopping it up like this is absolutely incredible and I can't wait to see what it all leads to next. Rhymesayers has a fan for life and believe I purchase every cd and ticket any time your in my area (southern oregon). Thank you brother Ali. Much love to you and yours. Long live rhymersayers. "never sounds like the record before it!". Atmosphere has a unique gift to be able to grow with there audience, as do you an most Rhymesayers artists, Sage Francis is another. Just that ability and I suppose freedom to age and tell stories that relate to that moment in your life when you're writing it. I don't think perhaps that 'mainstream' artist are able to have that in there music, they seem to either sing to the children or drop off. All the beauty in this whole life was a man who has lived talking to people who have lived, Word! was grown men speaking to adults. Even Sages last record Copper Gone was a record from a man who has been through it. That gift is beautiful. All I hear an read is people saying, that album, what you said there helped me, got me through it, takes me back, etc etc. And they do. That's only possible if you are able to do what Atmosphere has done an what you have done an age naturally with your fans. Getting older i still reflect back on a couple slugs bars quite a bit. "respect the lives an the fashions of the children. it's the only culture I've got, exactly what we've been building!" The older I get the next verse means more and more "all of a sudden I'm in front of some man, he's a youngin but he's got a gun in his hand......" I dunno if maybe I'm crazy but, that entire verse feels like an adult looking back at the self but with the wisdom earned with age. I myself often reflect on who I was an who I am and the conversations I could have with myself given the opportunity. Knowing I could an would carry some of my decisions better later in life. Things that at the time seemed insurmountable, would become stepping stones. I've gone off track I think but eeeh I guess that's what I was talking about to begin with. Lol Peace 🙏

Ali, any chance you could talk about the business sometime with another independent rapper or producer? I feel like half of people say that streaming is better since they get paid on all their albums for life, and the other half say there is no money in streaming. I know Russ is a huge rapper, but he is the only person I've ever seen as an independent talk about how much he earns from his catalogue streaming. And I know Griselda makes tons from making Vinyl and Merch collectable and exclusive.

ps, I really hope you write an autobiography some day. The Prodigy audiobook is soooooo good, and I think long form story telling in a book is always full of wisdom even when not trying to be a self help book

Mine or Sean‘s? Lol probably mine… I breathe loud as it is, but the compression added later makes everything the same volume. Using a lot of compression makes the breaths even louder. Have you listen to most hip-hop Acapellas?
