Babymetal is a Japanese metal band that blends elements of heavy metal with J-pop (Japanese pop). The band was formed in 2010, and consists of three young female members: Suzuka Nakamoto (Su-metal), Yui Mizuno (Yuimetal), and Moa Kikuchi (Moametal). Their unique fusion of metal music with cute and energetic J-pop vocals has garnered them a significant following both in Japan and internationally.
"Monochrome" is one of Babymetal's songs released in 2023. It comes off their fourth album, "The Other One."
Babymetal's music often incorporates elaborate choreography and theatrical performances during their live shows, which add to their appeal and uniqueness as a band. They have gained a dedicated fanbase worldwide and have performed at major music festivals and venues across the globe.

Speaking of their lighting you may or may have not noticed that the entire song was with just white and a small bit of blue light keeping with the title of the song Monochrome until at the very end where all the sudden the arena is bathed in brilliant warm light. Babymetal shows in Japan are on an other level when it comes to production, staging, video, effects and lighting, it's as good as it gets, their production team is their unsung hero's. Shows like "Budokan live 2021" and " Baptism XX" are master classes on how to stage a show.

Great reaction again. The lyrics in this song take us from the very worst experience and how dark life can get with the sun and the stars fading away into blackness and imagining what colours we could paint in the night sky, to then imagining the sky in rainbow colours and finally painting the whole world in rainbow colours.🌈 From the dark of the long night there is always hope - "No matter how long the night, the morning will arrive". As mentioned in the comments below, another reactor said about how it started musically in the minor key which gives a sad feeling then switched from minor to major until it finished in the major key which is a much happier sound. "Just smile"😊 They repeated that moment with everybody in the crowd "lighting up this dark, dark world" with the lights on their phones at all the concerts (nearly 100) they played after this as they toured in 25 countries ... and it was special every time. Yes a throw back to when everybody smoked and had a cigarette lighter .... phones are a lot safer (and you don't burn your fingers). I will second the suggestions for some of their earlier work in the comments below from GAnimal in particular.

Welcome back to the Foxhole and now with the new metalverse era🦊🤘🌐 I highly suggest to check it out early era songs so you can appreciate the evolution of this amazing group. Monochrome is another beautiful track from latest album, it was the 2nd single released in November 2022 and there's an official lyrics video really cool if you wanna enjoy the studio album version, later in 2023 right before this concert you just saw they released the Piano Version at The First Take surprising everyone with another stunning and beautiful one off stripped down version if you wanna enjoy and share with us. The lyrics got some Norse mythology reference and when the lyrics vid came out there were many theories around, later they said they were surprised about it and saying they just wanna give a hopeful song. Here's some official info: _"One of the discovered 10 parallel worlds is MONOCHROME and this 2nd pre-release digital single “Monochrome” centers around this theme. From the eyes of the children, what color were the monochrome fireworks lighting up in the night sky? This song expresses the hopeful wish on Ragnarok, which signifies doomsday in Norse mythology, twinkling across the starry skies in rainbow colors."_ This was live at BabyMetal Begins - PIA Arena MM Clear Night, Yokohama on April 2, MomoMetal first concert as an official member (she's the new official member after YuiMetal left the group in 2018), you can notice SuMetal speaking to them in the middle section and giving that recognition. They got this magical moment when performing live in every setlist they did throughout the recent World Tour 2023/2024, and more is coming this year. The composer behind this song is the same one behind Karate, Rondo Of Nightmare, Kagerou, the arrangement of Megitsune and also behind Believing from this same latest album, you should really not miss those songs. Next suggestion: - Road Of Resistance live in Japan official live MV (2015) Like SuMetal said at the end: "Just smile".🙂 Keep enjoying BM songs and see you next time 🦊🤘🌈

Thanks again from Japan 有難う💛。I witnessed this very performance at the venue where and when Momoko was inducted into BABYMETAL officially. Yes, she had a headset mic for the first time like Moa has done since BM's inception. I sang the ♪ oh oh ohoo ♪ part with Momometal with my loudest voice in the show holding my phone. What a bliss! The flying drones with cameras that enabled the beautiful aerial cinematograph were manipulated by experts including Ms. Shiraishi. She is a member of team Japan for World Drone Racing Championship. Western (American) Kami Band played in the girls' back. They did in BM's North American tour with DETHKLOK and EU/UK tour last year. (And this year's Legend-MM concerts to celebrate Momoko's birthday) Japanese fans always appreciate the devoted support like knights by Chris, CJ, Anthony and Clint (Ryan replaced in USA). They are really unsung heroes.

I appreciate Jake's restraint on the meaning of this song, as many jump the shark and state that since Su is from Hiroshima, it must be about the bombing. Although there is imagery in the lyric video that may re-enforce that idea, the fact is Amuse (the Team behind BM) has not made any statements about the song except that was "in the works" for a long time and Su had some involvement (She has stated that she was suprised that some would think this.). Some folks, new to BM, with their Western view-point, feel unfullfilled if they don't have all the lyrics and a "deffinitive" meaning, but Amuse doesn't always give us that. What they do give us, are avenues and images that are thought provoking. Even in the early years, with their body of work geared to young girls like themselves, even the "on the surface" simple songs have layers that can be pealed back for those that care to look. Some that comes from BM is very Zen. A great example is their Masterpiece, From Dusk Til Dawn (Budokan 2021). Even though entirely in English, until very recently, there was much debate of what was being said (I would say there is still some lines open to interpretation), almost as if Amuse wanted it that way. Combined with Su's ethereal vocals, emotion inducing stage lighting and elegant, mesmerizing dance, leaves this viewer feeling he has been on a spiritual journey. Andrew Hartely (Babymetal Professor) compared the performance to Haiku. Is it to be over-thought searching for that one meaning that may not be there or are the emotions evoked The Meaning that each must find for him/herself? This it true for much of what BM does and is what, for me, makes them so fascinating. "Don't think, feel" - Su-Metal

Usually the go to line is 'only the fox god knows', but in this case it's 'only Yuyoyuppe knows' because he wrote the song. as far as i'm aware he hasn't said anything about the meaning. BTW Amuse are not in artist control of Babymetal, Kobametal is, Amuse just manage them.

Great reaction and great choice. This performance, and the 2-day concert is just an amazing show all together! PIA Arena is ~12K capacity, and Babymetal usually plays in Japan's Arenas ~20K, with largest being Tokyo Dome (~55K). They've also done tons of festivals around the world, including Sonisphere UK, Download (UK, FR), Leeds/Redding Festivals, Rock on the Range, Glastonbury, and many others with much larger crowds. For their newer concerts, you'll see the Kami Band West (supported Babymetal since 2019, sole backing band starting this show, Apr 2023). *Kami Band West Members:* Chris Kelly (Guitar) CJ Masciantonio (Guitar) Clint Tustin (Bass) Anthony Barone (Drums) Chris, CJ, and Clint are members of the band "Galactic Empire" and Anthony was ex-drummer for Shadow of Intent. Ryan Neff temporarily replaced Clint for a few shows on tour due to Clint's prior committments. Now that you've checked out a newer song, how about some of their earlier works? *Road of Resistance (Official Live):* Jan 2015 show in Saitama Super Arena and collab with Dragonforce (Herman Li & Sam Totman co-wrote guitars). This is the live debut of this song in Japan (1st live debut at O2 Academy Brixton in London 2014). You'll see a 17-year stage general (lead Su-metal) and her 15-year old lieutenants (Yuimetal & Moametal) work a 20K sold out crowd to wall of death and circle pits, Braveheart style 😆. *Headbanger (Legend 1997):* Dec 2013 show celebrating Su-metal's 16th birthday. This is the quintessential early Babymetal sound/style. *Catch Me If You Can (Budokan 2014):* Epitome of adorable cuteness + the brutal and heavy. Fun song about hide and seek and you'll see the original Kami Band East (2012 - 2023) show off as well. 🤘🦊

BM drummers do indeed like their blast beats. RE: incongruency between the music and the lyrics ..... was pointed out by someone in another reaction (and i'm not musically inclined enough to say either way, so i just take their word for it) that the song starts in a minor key , oscillates between major and minor keys a couple of times , and then the whole last section is fully in major key. I can't believe something like that would be by accident.

So BabyMetal has got you intrigued 🤔 I think no matter what you pick, it will supprise you 😮 home crowd or any country outside of Japan, you will get the same response . I experienced this moment at Wembley Arena and 2 smaller shows at The Roundhouse great everytime 😁 Two songs off the new album I would try Timewave or Maya from this show or go epic and do Metal Kingdom the opening song of this show 😁🤘🏼🦊🤘🏼

Nice reaction :) Welcome to the Foxhole. Check out Headbanger! from the Legend of '97 concert. '97 was the year Su, the lead singer, was born and she just turned 16 the day before. The concert was from 2014. They're fantastic. Just found the band last summer and I'm totally hooked on them

It's a bit of an exaggeration to say ALL their songs are radically different. But they do have quite a lot of variety. There are a couple of "song clusters" that sound rather similar in my opinion. (Shine/The One/The Legend, IDZ/Road of Resistance, Meta Taro/Oh Majinai)

To really appreciate all they've done and how far they've come, I suggest starting from the beginning with their first single Doki Doki Morning from 10 years ago when the girls were still very young (12 and 10), and with the original third member Yuimetal (Yui Mizuno). It will hit you like a rock when you hear how young they were, and as they grew, their music grew too. It's definitely a journey to partake on their history.

Two corrections in the description, BM is a metal dance group. BM is now comprised of Su-Metal, Mometal, and as of 01 Apr 2023 Momometal. Yuimetal left the group in 2018 for health reasons having last performed on-stage in 2017.

There's literally no incongruence between the music and lyrics, nor the beginning is a bit too much. I'm not being defensive of the band. The song goes through an emotional arc from start to finish. It starts aggressively and dark, and finishes on a hopeful note. Same thing with the lyrics and even lighting (it's supposed to represent the sunrise). We go from a minor key to a major for a reason.

The monochrome firework is the Hiroshima nuclear bomb. Try Rondo of nightmare with mischief of the gods (you will see the band doing wonders and Su-metal being bad assed), live at the Budokan black night. If you want to try heavy metal dub wrap try BxMxC at Budokan 2021 And that crowd was 55,000.
