You haven't learned yet? You get them really nice and expensive rifles for Christmas, anniversaries and their Birthdays. Tell them, Baby I want you to be apart of this with me so bad I got you this HK 416 / LMT / LWRC / Sig and so on. Don't forget a lot of mags, Ammo and top it off with a high end Scop, Red Dot, PVO with them so she knows how much you love her. My wife always said, "O Baby you shouldn't have, it so nice and coast so much" Me, Honey your worth every bit of it and more. She kept saying " No You really shouldn't have" for some reason.

The BRN-4 barrels are produced by Faxon. The barrels are made out of 4150 chrome moly steel according to Brownells' website, but they are not cold hammer forged. I think Brownells' should have reached out to FN for the BRN-4 barrel just to stick it to H&K.
@dcstiger

They also have a chrome lined version in the medium profile(not cold hammer). It's $150 more than the standard model. I was tempted to get it but I'm not sure if it's worth it. Faxon has a good reputation from what I understand.

Chris, thanks for another excellent video! I bought one of Brownells billet BRN-4 stripped upper receivers in February 2023. When it finally arrived, the BRN-4 bolt would not fit inside the upper. A batch of uppers was manufactured with incorrect specs and wasn’t caught by inspection. Thankfully, Brownells gave excellent customer service and paid to ship back the defective upper and sent me a new one as soon as the company produced a correct batch. My 10.4” BRN-4 runs amazingly well. No malfunctions and fit and finish are exceptional. I love HK pistols and rifles and I’m glad Brownells provides this 416 option.

I owned an HK 416 upper receiver, used it with an M16A1 lower, ended up selling the HK, primarily due to the cam pin carving the inside of receiver. Had metal shavings in the receiver after each use. The accuracy wasn’t as good as the older Colt upper I had at the time, so I sold the HK. The weight was noticeably more with HK. Thank you, great show.

See the Hk M4 at 4:00 I ordered the M4 stocks for the prototypes from Brownell’s. If you look closely, you can see the Bushmaster snake logo. Larry Vickers was a frequent customer at the FFL I worked at just outside of Fort Bragg at the time and even had one of his end mills in the back. He put together a list of some basic parts they needed and had us order them. The M4 waffle stocks were cool at the time. We originally had them in the Land Warrior Airborne Test Platoon in my Company in 3-325 AIR in the 82nd, but we were supposed to turn them in and put the Colt Fiberlite stocks back on. During an ORS, I found some in a connex and snagged one for my M4, textured it with Rustoleum stone coat, camo’d it, then matte-coated it along with my KAC rail panels. There were almost no after-market stock options back then due to the Clinton AWB, which finally expired in 2004 and then it was on like Donkey Kong.

It's too bad it doesn't have adjustable gas to keep that wonderful pattern when suppressed. I went the LMT route for that, and overall better quality. IMHO, the LMT shovelnose is a much better handguard solution, and that piston assembly only takes a few seconds to disassemble, which makes it so much easier to clean. LMT's cryo-chrome-lined barrel is also about as good as it gets for a fighting rifle. The 12" piston barrel shot 1.3 to 1.8 MOA groups at 50m with a 2MOA red dot and magnifier using 60cpr defensive 5.56 ammo, resting on a backpack. Since I want to know how the accuracy is under a more realistic setting instead of testing its mechanical potential. HK's attitude towards the cilivan market drove me away from liking their products. If I really want something like a 416, this BRN4 is definitely a very good choice!

Brownells had been doing some amazing things lately. Especially between this and the brn 180. My only gripe with the brn is that once the dust cover is open, the ingress of mud, dust, etc is quite likely in certain conditions. I really wish they would look at how sig 550 solved this problem with a rubber seal riveted to the upper receiver that allows the charging handle to reciprocate without opening up the action.

From the Brownell site, quote; "The upper receiver utilized in this assembly is made completely new, from billet, to mirror the profiles commonly found on forged upper receivers. Contours of the upper are entirely machined from billet, so rounded areas such as the cam pin protrusion and complex contours will show machine passes more prominently.

When I built my BRN4, mine was short stroking. I had to open the gas port to 0.0655” to get it to function reliably and hold open after last round. The inside of my gas block had a lot of radial chatter from machining that I’m guessing was not a great gas seal. This now ejects perfectly with the Geissele super 42 buffer and spring.

Yes you can definitely use an ACOG in CQB. You have to be able to shoot with both eyes open. You also need to be able to focus between both eyes. IE I always shot with a pistol both eyes open and could not figure out why I would throw a few rounds left at the 25 during qualification. Why? because I shot both eyes open and would look for a bullet impact with my left eye and slam off another round too soon.

Another good video. At 20:30 in the video you said the Spector Elcan was made from 7075 aircraft grade aluminum. If you talk to anyone who works with aluminum and you say "aircraft grade" they will start laughing. The aerospace industry uses many grades of aluminum 2024, 6061, 7050, 7075 are just a few. The number 7075 is the grade and there is no sub grade under 7075 that is called "aircraft grade". In some cases 6061 is a better choice if corrosion is a issue. By the way Grumman aerospace used 6061 in aircraft and water craft.

I've always wondered how an SKS style gas system would work in an AR pattern rifle. There have been hybrids using the AK style gas system with the Korean K2 series, and the typical gas system on an AR reminiscent of the German Gewehr 43 / Soviet SVT-40 system, but I've never seen the SKS style gas setups attempted. I do have an oddball SKS that was made by Norinco that is in .223 that uses Type 84 magazines so the system is viable for smaller calibers.
@SmallArmsSolutions

@@SmallArmsSolutions I apologize, I should have been a little clearer in my wording. With that being said, let me rephase my statement. I've always wondered about how a system with a piston and gas block identical to that of an SKS would work on an AR platform rifle ( regardless of bolt carrier system ) and if there would be any benefits in the long term in terms such as reduction in power fouling or the ability for longer sustained firing especially if a role similar to an RPK type configuration. I do know that barrel harmonics would be an issue to some extent, but hypothetical and what ifs always interest me.
@SmallArmsSolutions

The SKS system using a push rod and an intermediate rod id identical to many rifles such as LWRCI, HK 416, Caracal…… All thats different is the intermediate rod is held in a separate compartment and the return spring is attached to the intermediate rod instead of the operating rod. The system is the same. The RPK is better designed as a long stroke for the heavy full auto use. The thicker operating rod is very beneficial for durability. The SKS is designed with semi-auto in mind. Far less demanding than full auto let alone a sustained fire weapon. Hope this answers your question.

@@bananawatch8158 The M4 may have been 'made' in the 80s, but they haven't been fielded to see the conditions to have issues in until the gwot in the early 2000s. Because of those conditions, that's when M4 feedramps, pmag adoption, socom profile barrels, and the development of the 416 came about among many other developments and refinements I'm probably forgetting. To this day, the M4 is still getting refinement with midlength gas systems being a fairly recent development, even being used in the new military URGI, and military branches as well as more manufacturers playing with the vltor A5 buffer system over the carbine buffer system. Again, the 416 came about during the time of those shortcomings with the M4 that came to light early during the gwot almost 20 years ago. The M4/AR15 now is not the same M4 when the 416 came about, which is why a 416 at that time was far more enticing than it is now when we have such refined AR15s on the market made with the benefits of hindsight from the gwot.

I wish PSA would make one of these, as they should have the ability to bring the hammer forged barrel and forged upper (rather than billet) to market. My problem with piston ARs compared to DI guns is heat distribution. When you fire a lot of rounds quickly, piston guns will get really hot at the gas port, even though the action remains cool. That sounds great until you consider that ALL the heat which would normally distribute throughout a DI system gets contained in one place. I can’t imagine that’s good for the metallurgy of the barrel and gas block. At least in a DI gun, that heat is distributed throughout, and partly expelled through the action. DI guns get hot too, but it’s different with a piston gun. I’m not a fan.
@SmallArmsSolutions
@SmallArmsSolutions 2 ай бұрын
The bolt on an internal piston would never get hot enough to damage the components of the bolt. Heat in the carrier argument is mute. The rifle would have blown long before the springs and components would hit any transformation temperatures.

It runs with a suppressor super clean, and it doesn’t speed up the bolt carrier cyclic speed like a standard m4-m16. if you’ve ever fired suppressor on a direct impingement M4 vs piston, the difference is night and day. Carbon fowling doesn’t travel hardly at all to the bolt carrier group and the action. Hence, why the Marines use them m27. Also much more resilient in and out of water conditions (won’t blow up in your face coming out of the water). A large majority of SOCOM use these as well, depending on the mission set.

Anyone into the AR-M16 platform knows CHF is the only way to go... (MINUS COLT SUCKS) who think button rifled is the "end all be all" cause it was made by "COLT"... But you take one of those "PSA uppers" with a CHF FN barrel, etc, or some home builder guy who uses a CHF barrel, DD, FN, "WHATEVER BRAND", and MFG makes a kit with that piston setup for it...... Can you say "SOLD OUT" and "BACKORDERED"!?! Wouldn't be able to keep it in stock! All my AR's are Adams Arm carbine length piston setups.. Only thing i hate is the weight of the gas blocks... Would love to have a HK piston setup on my rifles... Just to save weight. But not paying $1,100.00+ to "DOWNGRADE"..
