I'm currently semi-restoring an original A5 Sweet Sixteen. It's my first rodeo. The only thing I learned from this video is how much cooler the new A5's are.

One of the best disassembly videos in you tube. Most guys just pull the barrel and bolt out and thats it.

Should never have been called the A5. The original A5 was an absolute classic, I've got several 👌

I never realized how popular they were till I got into gunsmithing last year and one of my family members sent me his collection to "deep clean" and learn with. Now I'm restoring one of his A5's, the Sweet Sixteen. It's a hand-me-down. And it's very humbling to realize that this design is what modern shotguns are still built from, albeit with improved components.

I've always said, if you can completely strip an original A5 then put it back together ( and it works ) you can strip any gun .

If you ever get your hands on one , try and get the book , trouble shooting your shotgun and rifle by J B Woods. ( 1970s )

@@richardperry4115 Try completely stripping the Taurus GX4. So far that's the most headache-inducing gun I've disassembled...so far. I'll be putting the A5 back together later today, and just going through the motions (to get it on video without hiccups) seems to be pretty straightforward. The hardest part will be putting the end cap on the magazine tube, cause it was a pain to remove.

I have a Browning A5 ultimate. No finish issues. If you can find one, get one. Great gun! As for the cycling, lube the recoil spring and you won't have that problem. I religiously clean and lube my gun and it works like a dream. Only issue I have is occasionally it doesn't lock open when it's empty, but it's not a big deal.

I’ve had my A5 for about 5 years and never had any problems. I recently cleaned it, like many times before, but now my bolt is stuck in the forward position. I removed the trigger group and made sure my bolt tail is sitting in the plunger, but it still won’t slide to the rear. Any help would be HUGE

If you were to still run a 3 1/2 inch shell through the gun would it cause damage since you have two coils cut off of the recoil spring? I have a wicked wing a5 that won’t run light loads and I rarely shoot 3 1/2 inch shells. Most commonly dove loads, 3 inch duck/ goose loads, and 3 inch turkey loads. Just wondering if I’d be able to do the same as you without causing damage to the gun

I have a 3.5” a5 as well and have had a lot of trouble shooting light loads since I got the gun. (Stove-piping mainly) it has been very frustrating. But I also do a lot of duck and turkey hunting (much heavier loaded shells) and it cycles the heavy loads like a dream.. QUESTION: do you think I should cut off a coil or two of the spring ,like you did, to help cycle the lighter loads or do you think that if I shorten the spring, 3.5” shells would damage the gun, or the heavy loads will not run as good?

You have to run 1 1/4 loads at least on the 3 1/2 model. You’ll screw up the gun if you do that.

The bolt doesn't fullty seat when put together? Seems like the bolt there is a slight gap?

question- when the forearm is on the shotgun- if you squeeze it does the forearm make a creaking sound?

Mine doesn't. There's a bit of play if you rotate it really hard, but nothing else.

What about getting the magazine follower out?

On the factory model, there's a black plastic cap on the end of the magazine tube. Push in from the side to release it, that'll get the spring out and the follower will. . .follow
