great rifle, i have it in .243 - highly accurate rifle-sub half moa at 100 yds rested, only issue i had was the smoothness of bolt action was initially terrible , 3 grades of diamond lapping paste soon sorted it and it is now as smooth as glass

Accuracy man! Such a great review apart from the fact you didn't show any groupings or really even mention the accuracy

This is an outstanding rifle that exceeded my expectations. Sub inch moa and I got 1 inch at 200 yards with 180 grain federal vital shok trophy copper and with 180 grain Remington core locks. Still working the reload powders and bullets, only managed 1 inch at 100.

The AB3 doesnt use a 'plasticky' kind of stock. Browning uses advanced structural nylon for the stock composition. Structural Nylon is far stronger than typically found with other synthetics.
@acoow
@acoow 3 жыл бұрын
Nylon is a thermoplastic. So, yeah, the AB3 has a plastic stock. Just because it has a fancy name does not mean it is not a plastic. There are many other kinds of plastics with fancy names. High Density Polyethylene and Low Density Polyethylene are two the come to mind. "Plastic" is a broad term that encompasses many different kinds of plastics. Plastics are a wide class of synthetic or semi-synthetic organic compounds.
@killertruth186
@killertruth186 3 жыл бұрын
My guess is that the stock feels much closer to wood as structural density?

@@acoow just depends on the alloy. Mineral filled Nylon can be hard as a rock depending on % of mineral. others like Xenoy or Noryl are lighter great impact but more flex. a matter of how much the MFG's want to spend on raw materials and tooling quality to mold them properly

I have been having hell with my 7mm RemMag. The first shot throws it 5 inches high and 4 inches right or left. But after that first throw they start grouping and whenever I would change to a different bullet to find out which it liked the first 1 or 2 would be that wild throw. And I get some serious barrel jump when I fire it. I don't know if it's me since i use a lead sled and have had other guys shoot it. I've never had my 300's, 270's or 6.5's do this. So I'm in some new territory here.

I have to say, I do like the angle of the bolt knob and the swell in the pistol grip, ( this 'swell' reminds me of the stock on my Walther Terrus Air Rifle ). I'd like to know what you think of this AB3 as compared to the Remington 783.

Some of the online info I've been reading say that the Browning AB3 is the same as the Winchester XPR but these look completely different in the trigger system. What's the relationship?

I have an ab3 in 7mm rem mag and love it. the bolt is clunky at first but after the rifle being used a bit it smooth's right up. the stock is very good and the recoil pad is amazing. makes my 7mm recoil feel like a 270. great review but u cant compare the ab3 to the xbolt. $500 gun vs $1000 gun so obviously the xbolt will be more attractive to most shooters.

The a-bolt II is a better built gun the hinged floor plate with detachable mag is nice because then you dont have to worry about losing it because it got caught on something while walking through the woods
@ryanstines9748
@ryanstines9748 Жыл бұрын
The problem with some of them (308 wood A-Bolt II I had) was that the button on the trigger guard had loose tolerances, so the floor plate did not sit flush and then did not feed well. It only fed well if you pushed the floor plate flush with one handle with chambering. It also had a 24” barrel for a .308, which doesn’t make much sense. It did shoot great, though.

Hi I have an AB 3+ (308) how the hell do one dissambly the bolt? Beacause the only thing that turns is the firing pin then one drags the firing pin backwords as on the X-BOLT The only thing that turns is the "pin", it doesnt unscrew or screw for that matter. It just GOES AROUND........ I've searched online, but its always X-bolt and have not found any "A-bolt disassembly-video" Mickey

Plastickey kind of stock? That must be a technical term? Could that be "Indicative" of the quality of the rifle? Hopefully Browning screwed the barrel in to the receiver true, unlike the BLR rifles they were producing back in the 2010's.. Just saying,.. When you mount a high quality scope , base & rings on a rifle and you run out of windage adjustment on several examples tried,. I have to wonder about their QC.

I wouldn't say it is complete junk, since you can just simply replace the stock and trigger with metal counterparts with ease. And from what I have heard that the bolt would get smoother after use.

All of these "value" (cheap) rifle reviews convince me to build another Savage 10/110/111 etc or Rem 700. In my winter climate, plastic gets brittle and breaks. Have been through a Ruger American, Savage Axis II, and a Mossberg Patriot, and a Howa 1500 with the Ammoboost mag sytsem, just hoping one of them has a magic plastic in the mag or triggerguard. No such luck. Avoid them for really cold hunts. Or just buy a $700 rifle, and save the expense and headaches of replacing the plastic crap with aluminum or steel.
@killertruth186
@killertruth186 3 жыл бұрын
My older brother's rifle is a Mossberg Patriot. And it has synthetic stock. I wouldn't say that all synthetic stocks are bad. Although replacing the stock and trigger with the AB3 is much simpler and easier than you think.

@Huntinggearguy
@Huntinggearguy 5 жыл бұрын
People have been saying this for over 15 years. Chuck Hawks has an article from 2006 where they talk about the Tikka T3 as being "plastic junk". Fact is, new rifles are cheaper in today's dollars than rifles were in those days in their dollars. That means rifle prices have beat inflation handily. Today's rifles are 1 MOA accurate or better and they don't come with horrible lawyer-ized triggers anymore. If you want to spend more on better quality materials, you can, but now anyone can now buy an accurate rifle that'll work fine for big game hunting.
