I didn't know who Brandon was. But I saw this incredible low budget flick called THE CROW. I thought it was incredible. Then I discovered it was Brandon Lee. That film is definitely a cult classic.

Still applying Sifu Bruce Lee's philosophy to this day. Def ahead of his time! Also, shoutout to Shannon Lee for keeping her father's legacy alive. Sidenote: had a crush on her since before the WMAC Masters days 😂. Still a stunning woman 💯.

The fact that producers thought that a Chinese man would not be accepted playing a Chinese monk in a American TV series just shows how ridiculous and how gutless Hollywood is, they are spineless when it comes to pushing boundaries
@TheSubwaysurfer

easy to say Hollywood was gutless ( and i agree) but millions of dollars can make you very cautious.Especially if your job is on the line too. Undoubtedly most producers were probably impressed with Bruce but were roo too scared to take a chance

You know nothing about Hollywood in the 70s. 70s time is about Cowboys, Steve McQueen and Apollo 11. Chinese men in American shows were used to be laughing stocks. Nobody thought a Chinese man would make Kung Fu popular in Hollywood when gyms aren't even a thing. Classic Hollywood was awesome, Bruce Lee wanted to be part of it too

thats why CIA and the American shadow government had him killed. Or the 80s sex /rock and roll and today's cheap music and fast sex culture would not have existed and dumbed our generations down significantly. Youth has tremendous energy and it seeks a path to channel it. And they did not want us to channel it the right way to benefit our mind and soul and spirituality. Bruce Lee was more than an action star, he was a philosopher and a storyteller who was only getting better as he went along.

@AztecUnshaven
@AztecUnshaven 5 жыл бұрын
there's controversy to what really happened to this day still though... thing is... Shannon wasn't there, her mom was... and her mom is obviously gonna be biased towards Bruce... Coincidently, this was also the fight that inspired Bruce to expand and develop his own personal style of gongfu (Jun Fan Gongfu), and express his JKD philosophy. Other people that were supposedly there stated that the fight went on a bit longer than that, and both got their hits in, etc... So the truth is probably somewhere in between, no? Bruce was a complex man... he really was kind of arrogant and brash at times, (confirmed by multiple firsthand accounts of his close friends and martial arts brothers) but he was also clearly super charismatic, and very skilled.
@will_sketch
@will_sketch 5 жыл бұрын
@@AztecUnshaven I don't doubt that there is a lot more to the story, but there is also a limited amount of talk time on the show. As for Linda's account of the fight, biased or not, the end result is clear, Bruce won that day. The "truth" could well be somewhere in between. Whether Wong ran, tripped, gave up, etc. is highly irrelevant now when you're talking about the legacy that followed the fight. If Bruce did not win, Shannon would not be there talking about the man that became a household name.

It’s amazing to think about the impact Bruce made in this world for the short time that he was here. I’m 36 now and remember watching his movies as a kid living in the Bay Area not realizing that Bruce had been gone for almost 10 years (passed in 73); and being in awe of his charisma, athleticism, physique, and passion for martial arts/ JKD. He was the first true inspiration for myself to get in to martial arts/ combat sports as he was for millions of others. What still amazes me is how he’s even MORE relevant today than he was before, which just shows you how much of an impact he’s made in this world. I feel that he set a philosophical, physical, and intellectual standard for many to follow or to adopt in some way. His famous “be like water” quote can be used in so many facets of life; I believe his time on earth wasn’t just to show us martial arts/ physicality on screen, but to make us better individually by discovering ourselves and self improving. Great interview Sway!

Man, Shannon was exceedingly gracious when Birth of the Dragon was brought up and she called it "pure fiction," which is an understatement. On Facebook she went into a little more detail, calling it a step backwards for Asians in cinema, and I have to agree. It's one thing to do something like Dragon: The Bruce Lee Story, where the director flat-out said, "This is entertainment-this is a Bruce Lee movie about Bruce Lee." Fair enough. But when you've got something like Birth that's supposed to be the "real story" and then spins everything-events, personalities, motivations, outcomes-into the exact OPPOSITE of what actually happened? WA-TAAAAH!!!

it shows even to this day and age the struggles asian americans have in the "hollywood" scene, new inspiring ideas, passion and hard work doesnt even pay off if it "doesn't fit and sell to the general media" it shows the struggle Bruce Lee had as one man and maybe a handful of people went through just to put his love of martial arts on screen. Fast forward to 2019, Shannon still goes through that struggle but rather than getting shut down from the start, they would take her on board and try to manipulate her to sell her fathers ideas to "western audience" im glad she doesn't sell herself out and i hope she keeps up the GREAT work and also people would open their minds and eyes that we are all hollywood stars regardless of race. Bruce Lee is THE MAN.

It's crazy to me how so many claim to love Bruce Lee and say how he changed there lives? How do you relate to someone when you only know stories told to you? All any one really knew was his movies. Thank you Shannon for keeping your father's true self alive! I can't believe anyone believed that stupid movie!? Birth of the dragon- joke! Bruce Lee inspired and touched the whole world! I have searched and seen Bruce from a child actor, his first and last fight in a ring with head gear, why he majored in philosophy, "so he could think deep thoughts about being unemployed", how he changed people, how he was beating racism without fight! Humble and loved people, the book Shannon has of his he wrote while he bed ridden after hurting his back, his train schedule in the little hand book, video of all his interviews, be like water, going from teaching many to only teaching a select few, he never finished the game of death it was supposed to have a lot more levels! He changed the way fight scenes were were shot and they use it to this day, the lies other martial artist told using his name for a grab at fame, Chuck Norris, Steven Segal, and many others! The set of enter the dragon he was challenged to a fight and there was an actor caused him to get cut because Bruce didn't kick him hard enough, the stories from John Saxon and people that spent time with him, and I know so much more. See Bruce is one of my heros! I only have 3 and they are Jesus, Bruce Lee, and Steve Erwin! These three men made an impact on the entire world. Bruce will be a name that will that lasts threw the ages!
