I'm going to show my age and bring out the old, you should have seen them do it in 1978. This was a nicely done theater performance without a crowd. Done for the box set for Darkness on the Edge of Town. For any Darkness song you need a live performance from '78. They were faster, more energetic and it was all new. Anyway, thanks for checking out Bruce again.

I've had a similar experience... My first concert *ever* was Bruce Springsteen & the E Street Band Born in the U.S.A. tour 1985 at Mile High Stadium. I was 11. As one of my brothers told me, "Too bad this was your first concert; it'll be hard to top this one." I've been to several Springsteen shows since, and he's always delivered. It's other artists that haven't quite measured up. 💁🏻‍♀️

To me Darkness on The Edge of Town is Bruce's crown jewel and this song is top notch! I've seen Bruce a number of times and was lucky enough to see him open with this song in Philly in I believe 03. Incredible moment!

Greetings again Sir!! The more you watch, the more you see the tenor of a Springsteen show. He'll crush you with something "violent" like "Adam Raised a Cain" keep pounding it with "Ramrod" and "Cadillac Ranch" and soon he'll be playing with your heart strings with "Drive All Night" or "The River'" and just when he's got you, he'll bust out hilarious story during " Growing Up". The ebbs and flows of his shows is what makes it so special. Night after night, yet never the same. Why I kept coming back, the show, the music, special times from a special band. Love the way you're delving into his catalogue, I have no suggestions, I like when you surprise me (us) Rock On!!!

When I got to see his concert a few years ago, he started with this one, unusual for the tour. Set the mood quite quickly, just the way you described. I'm not even the biggest fan of his music, but you simply can't be not drawn in by his presence - commanding a crowd of 70000 simply by the charisma of one man. They even turned the houslights ON when it got dark - this is about the people not some video show.

Big ups to you, you show the deepest respect to all artists and obviously you have a knowledge of music. I notice the majority of your base is metal and yet you still appreciate Bruce. Thank you sir and keep up the great work brother.

Always loved those heavy songs from Bruce & The E street band. Had the pleasure to see them live 3 times, it always somehow feels like a euphoric rock´n roll revival meeting with Bruce as the preacher.

This is 70 year old Bruce singing an angry 25 year old's song. This is great but the album track is much more intense and powerful!!

BRUUUUCE!!! Early Bruce!! This Jersey Girl wishes Candy's Room was the pick but I have yet to request & I've been here since the beginning. I ain't paying $$ for requests so let's see if Dave has any Jersey soul in him......🤞 This was performed differently from the original, which is common for a bunch of bands I love. This was off Darkness on The Edge of Town, another great album which dropped in 1978, my freshman year of HS. My fave Bruce albums are albums 1 & 2 (Greetings from Asbury Park & The Wild, The Innocent & The E Street Shuffle). If I were to request from those two.....hmmm... Lost In The Flood live is f#@#'en awesome. But I don't request 😎. Solid review, understood your victims of their own success thought & I agree. The great thing is there is always an amazing live performance of most songs to pluck off YT. I'm always happy when I'm your first...viewer/responder. 8.4 was a fair score. I wish I'd have requested a bunch of Bruce, PJ, Tull, Van Halen, DMB, O.A.R., Triumph, Yes, ETC.... but she who hesitates is lost. Thanks for giving me a nice break from all the crap in RL. Have a good day! ✌

I have to say, the live version is very different from the studio, and I can't recommend the studio version enough. This version is good as well, but it lacks some of the raw emotion of the original imo.

This particular performance is from a theatre recording of the full Darkness On The Edge Of Town album for its 30th anniversary boxset. Without an audience though, the performance does suffer a bit. Bruce and E Street, as you know, thrive off audience energy, and thats where the songs really come alive. Its great to have a professional, modern recording of this song. But to catch the true fire and passion of this song, of this father/son conflict, you gotta watch it live. There are some absolutely incredible live performances of this song on KZfaq, where Bruce almost becomes possessed by rage, and he makes the guitar scream out in frustration, and howls like a tortured soul. Its probably one of Bruce's best live songs.

As a 40plus year springsteen fan, your reactions make me appreciate songs with a new ear -you hear things only a trained musician hears, whereas I was just " sounds good. Me like" you rate songs on their merit, even if they aren't songs that would be on any of your personal playlists Don't change- I know you aren't a lyric guy- but I'll be honest and say part of me wants you to hear the lyrics The Boss helped me through a lot of stuff growing up How can you ignore "You're born into this life paying For the sins of somebody else's past Daddy worked his whole life for nothing but the pain Now he walks these empty rooms looking for something to blame But you inherit the sins, you inherit the flames" Ah well, can't be greedy - great reaction once again

Love your review. Just to give you some perspective. This wasn't a concert at all. The band decided to rerecord their album Darkness on the Edge of Town (1978). So they rented the Paramount Theater in Asbury Park and Played the Darkness on the Edge of Town Album and recorded it live. So just to give you perspective. It was for the Anniversary of the Darkness Album. They released a box set.....

Thanks for this reaction!! If you are curious to see something by Bruce without E Street Band you must check out his "The ghost of tom joad tour" or his country music project with The Seeger Sessions band in 2006 or his "human touch/lucky town era" with another band in 1992!!

@@riccardobanelli4940 No problem. 🙂 It's based off of Bruce's love for Pete Seeger who was a pioneer of the folk movement.

That's nice. No actually it's nasty. It's both? I didn't know they had it in them. I mean he can be upbeat he can be sad, but there an anger to this, an agresstion I don't usually associate with him. Liked it a lot! Excellent reaction

Do you think meeting your high expectation based on previous views is fair to the artist? Each song should stand on its own merits and not be influenced by stuff you listened to before. It's like there is no way to go but down. One song at a time and not judged against other stuff.

This version is good. The original is a much more of a raw pissed off Springsteen. It’s powerful and gritty rawness of young angst!
