My father loved this song. He passed away in June last year. Today I was working on his house fixing it up for the first time since his passing. While playing music on my aux cord my car randomly switched to the radio station which has never happened before and the aux cord did not disconnect. I believe this was him giving me a sign to listen to this song and know that he’s there and proud of what I’m doing for my family.

that was definitely a sign quincy. when weird stuff happens like that after a death and especially with something electronic or a wire of some kind sign is in front of your soul. you just got to put 2 and 2 together. I say this because I hear to many of stories that can't be explained like yours and always a year or less after a passing. get that house project done sir and thanks for posting your story

I saw him in 81 at the Nassau Coliseum. The album could not have been out for more than two weeks. He played the first few chords of this song and the entire crowd started singing. Bruce just sat down on the edge of the stage and let us sing the first verse. It was freaking awesome.

I don't think that it was meant to be a feel-good song. If you listen to the words, the guy in the song is a very unhappy, lonely and desperate person who lives with the shame and pain of having abandoned his wife and kids; and yet wont go back home to reconcile with them, and instead goes to bars to drink and meet women for yet more empty short term relationships as a way of escaping his feeling guilty.

I left that out, I was into the army and wound up in the hell of Vietnam . Your dad saw things no human being should see let alone a 19 year old. My parents told me they took a young boy to the airport and picked up a 100 year old man. I flew home with enough smack on me to jail me for 30 years. Anyone who has been in combat is never the same. He served with pride and dignity and like so many of us. Used drugs to cope with 18 months of terror and lost part of his soul along the way. I pray he's doing well today god bless the both of you. I am retired military. I have 3 wonderful children who love me and now live with me (well 2, 1just graduated from OCS) IVE SORTA lived this song. Never seen the inside of a courtroom... We handled stuff like adults. Yes there were ruff times but OUR children are happy healthy and well adjusted. And reaching for the stars. No matter "our" problems... We always NEVER disagreed about our kids and we BOTH gave 110% to them in our own ways and NEVER made "OUR" failures about or involved them. She is a GREAT woman! And the BEST mother a child could ever ask for and want. And because of her my children still love me. And for the joy they have brought to my life now that they are now with me I will always be greatfull and in her debt.

Over the years, I've only liked a few or more of his songs, this being my favorite. Over thirty years ago, as a teenage boy, living in my mama and daddy's basement, this song forever struck a chord in my heart. Mainly, because of the first few opening lines, along with the beautiful music. This song has forever been a treasure piece in my heart and mind.

1981, in Jr. High, this song was EVERYWHERE on the radio. I didn’t quite know Bruce or the band (yet,) but all I know/knew at the time was that this song made me feel GOOD. Years later I started up on electric bass…and from a bassists’ standpoint, you couldn’t ask for a better drummer than Max. His pocket is so very deep - an absolute godsend for a bass player with any sense of feel. Without his secure drumming the whole thing would be a disaster and the E Street Band would be on the skid row end of E Street. This entire band is hugely talented and relies heavily on drums. This is the song that opened my eyes to them. Little did I know they’d been at it for almost 10 years by 1981 and wouldn’t be until Born In The USA which broke them to superstardom. Tough business man...

I’m a drummer and how u talk about max as there drummer is how I talk about all the great bass players if there no groove you’re not selling albums it all starts with the bass and drums baby!! This song is so in the pocket it’s amazing and fun as hell to play!!
@luvbasses5487
@luvbasses5487 2 жыл бұрын
@@scottyspliffen7421 big time. Very early on, I just “knew.” Without a “pocket drummer,” the whole this is just a disaster. I’m not sure it can even be taught. Either you have feel, or you don’t. At one point we played Frampton’s Do You Feel and the drummer just wasn’t there. I’m like: “what the fk are you not hearing here already?” All the music you love and listen to you should be able to cop on to what they’re doing man! Otherwise, put the sticks down and choose some other thing....like an office or something!
